Sew-N-So saved the day this week when my regular seamstress was out on vacation! Brought jeans to hem and two of my husband's Lululemon shorts that ripped in the crotch area. All items were done just as requested and I was especially impressed with how well they repaired the shorts! All were done within 48 hours, just in time for our trip, with a total cost of $40. Other reviews commented on the rude customer service. One of the workers was definitely lacking in customer service but the other two were friendly. Typically go to the blackstone location but when I arrived there was a note on the door that they were closed for a week. I drove to this Shaw location hoping for the same great service I received in the past on blackstone. When in the fitting room the lady told me she could not do all the alterations I asked for, when I asked why she just said no. Since I was only able to alter the dress the way she wanted I decided I would think about what I wanted to do and then return. When I told her I would come back once I knew for certain what I wanted to do with the dress she yelled at me and said i wasted her time. The man yelled at me saying why did you come if you didn't know what you wanted?? I calmly explained the original alterations I came for she was unable to do. Really friendly employees! I walked in last Friday with two pairs of jeans I needed to be hemmed. Nothing too crazy just baggy carpenter jeans in 2 different colors. I wasn't sure exactly how much shorter they needed to be. They had a dressing room where I could try on the jeans. Both pairs were the same so she only needed to come in and pin one pant leg. I called them on a last minute repair! He said they didn't have time to finish it the same day. I offered extra money to incentivize him. He said "no". I told him it was pretty easy and that I would give him extra money, and explain my situation. At this point he was pretty irritated that I wouldn't take no for an answer. " you come in so I can see, and we will talk." I drove over there, went in side and showed him what I needed done. The couple didn't say much to one another and before I knew it she was deep into the repair. Once she was finished she handed it back to me. "Here you are." I asked how much do I owe you and they replied. "You do not owe us anything. Unfortunately I did not have any cash on me and that's when I noticed the sign that said "cash only". I am very grateful for their generosity and will slip her a $50 bill next time I'm in there. read more

I've been to this Sew-n-So twice now. The first time my garment was not ready when it should have been, but they were able to get it done by the following day. The second time was today, when I took a dress in to have some minor alterations done. For my garment, I showed the woman working the issues. The woman told me "No. Can't." And I asked her why not, and she just kept saying No without elaborating. I told her I thought a simple dart in the fabric on each side would fix the problem, and she said "you do it yourself," which seemed very rude for what had been a pleasant interaction so far. I'm not skilled with sewing, and wouldn't want to ruin a dress I need to wear (which is why I was at a tailor), so I asked her for her opinion on how she would fix the issue. She just said "Can't." I told her that I have to wear this dress for an event soon, so could she please help me find a solution, and she just said no again. Frustrated, I asked why? Is it not possible to fix or you just don't do that kind of thing here? And she said "you don't ask why!" I was shocked and just said Ok then.. I'll take it somewhere else, and she walked out of the room without a word. I am so sweet and kind with everyone I meet in the customer service industry, and truly don't understand why she was so unwilling to help or even explain her refusal to help. Did she not have time that week, was it impossible to fix, was the fabric not okay to sew like that..? I took it to Mission Alterations up the street immediately after leaving, and they were SO helpful. They said it was a super simple fix and they could have it done by next Wednesday for just $30. I really don't know what went wrong in my visit to Sew-n-So but after two bad experiences now, I won't be going back. I recommend starting at Mission Alterations, just 6 minutes away, and saving yourself a big headache. read more

We had a great experience here -- we had a dress for our daughter, which had been custom-made for her by a woman on Etsy who asked me to take very careful measurements. Despite the careful measurements, the dress was huge. Three of her would have fit in the dress. Anyway, the dress needed a lot of work, and there wasn't time to ship it back to the woman who made it (and no reason to think she'd get it right the second time). The owners at Sew-n-So came to our rescue. They took the dress in a lot, shortened and narrowed the sleeves, tightened the cuffs, and lengthened the dress (yes, despite the dress arriving huge, it was too short -- I'm wondering if she mixed up two girls' measurements). The couple at Sew-n-So did an amazing job, the work was done on time, the price was reasonable, and as an extra bonus, they were very nice and friendly to me and my daughter. We'd recommend this place to anyone. They really wanted to help us, and they turned the dress from a disaster into something really nice. Five stars! read more

I came here trying to get an estimate on dress to be hemmed. They quoted me $80. That's a little pricey. I told them to return my dress to me & will be taking it else where. Oh! Was the man & women that work there upset . He refused to give me my dress until he erased all the white lines at the bottom . The markings she made on the dress. They tried to charge me $10 for that . He continued to express to me that I had wasted their time. I was in there for less then 5 minutes. The man /owner was very rude & aggressive. Extremely mean. By far the best tailor in the Valley. Incredible attention to detail, and I don't think there's something they can't do.

The proprietor, a bitter older woman, was brusque when I dropped the garment off and downright rude when I picked it up. She literally threw a fit when I tried to pay with a card and made me feel so awkward I just went and got cash. Again, no signs saying cash preferred. Also when I got back she was receiving payment, in cash, from another customer. I will literally never go here again. Addendum, it is possible this issue is isolated to this location. There may be other sew-n-sew's, so-n-sew's, or so and sew's, et cetera. However this specific location will not be receiving my patronage and I recommend the same for anyone who reads this. read more

Used to come here until they messed my pants. I gave them a tip the last time I did business with them. But for some reason, my stitching started falling apart. I kindly let them know so they would be aware, but he visibly got upset. I dropped off two more items anyways. Considering the amount of money I spent on the items, I called them and told them not to do my pants. The man got upset and told me "Just come pick up everything, I don't want to do it!" I called and spoke with the gentlemen who told me he would wait for me at the store to help me. I rushed over and showed him what I needed done to my button up shirt. I like this place. It's family own and they're super nice. Plus, from general conversation, I've noticed that a lot of people highly recommend this place for alterations. And they treat you like a customer, not just think of you as a dollar sign. Parking is on the street that I've noticed, but I think there may be a lot in the back. Not sure. Decently priced, but with the service they provide, it's worth it. My only complaint is that I brought a bunch of clothes in and they seemed to do a lazy job on some of it. Maybe it's because I had such a big order. A good third of it was uneven. Who knows. But the stuff that they did do a good job on, they did a really good job on... so we'll see. I wish they'd done a little better with it. There were pants that were noticably uneven. I understand it takes a lot of work, but I'm sure they noticed it and I wish they had fixed it. Avoid coming to this place. The owners are beyond rude especially the lady. She has a horrible attitude and lacks customer service skills. All I needed was to get the stitching on some jeans fixed and before leaving I just wanted to confirm the areas she had to fix and she got extremely bothered by me confirming that she grabbed the jeans and threw at me and said she didn't want to work on them no more. I took my evening gown here to be altered for MISS CALIFORNIA and it took them 6 weeks to alter the straps. It wasnt even finished when I picked it up. Very disappointed that my dress was not done within a week like they said and that it was not taken more seriously considering how important that dress was.I was beginning to worry that they ruined or lost my dress. I'm now stuck here, a week away from Miss California with an evening gown that still doesn't fit right. He is a highly talented tailor and has a particular set of skills needed to perform the unusual projects I bring him. He just recently was able to take a piece of cloth from a t-shirt with my face on it and create a large "patch" so he could apply it to the back of my "most interesting man in fresno" suit. I wear a suit at least once a month and wear professional clothes for work everyday. If you need alterations you must go to Sew N So on Shaw. Steven and his wife do excellent work. I like slim fit cuts. If I buy something I like that is not slim fit or not slim enough I take it to Steven. The prices are fair. Sew N So is responsible for two of my great fitting suits. One that I bought at a thrift store and another I bought at a super discount. Each alteration cost me $120 and $90, respectively. That is well worth the labor and finished product. I have even had them taper work pants and shirts. I wear small and have bought medium shirts just to get them altered. Turn around is quick. My suits took one week. Went in to hem a dress. As my daughter was getting dressed after the tailor marked the hemline, I asked how much it would be. When he told me it would be $40, I was surprised by how expensive it was. I expressed my surprise and the tailor got belligerent with me, telling me that I should stick to doing my job, and he will do his job, which I told him was fine, I wasn't telling him how to do his job, just that it seemed very expensive. He said he would go down to $35, but it was still too much and so I said I would have to go elsewhere to shop for a better price, which anyone has a right to do, but when I did that, he gave me the nastiest look and I had to hurry out of there. The owners are soo sweet and nice, but, I took several pairs of pants here to be taken in, and even though I tried them all on and had them marked up when I dropped them off, they all came back so small that now I can't fit into them (and no, i could not have gained that much weight in one week!). I went here by recommendation from yelp. They had to call me back for a second alteration because they could not figure out how to match the slip under my dress to the outside of the dress. I would have given them one star if they didn't hem the dress well. When I went in for the final pick up they charged me $50! to hem the bottom of the dress and at a hook for the tail.
