Worst experience. She will take advantage of you!! I needed a dress trimmed at the bottom of the skirt to make it shorter, so I called different alterations shops in town and was given the same estimate of $20-$25. I chose Gili's and took my dress here. I don't know what about me that made her think have money to spare (I don't!), but as she was writing my bill, midway through writing the 5, she turned it into an 8!!! See attached picture. When I told her that she quoted me that it would be $20-$25, she told me that labor would be $15/hour plus supplies and things. I told her the dress itself was from Ross and cost $16, so what she was charging me was almost double the price of the dress! Either way, I understood and let her do the trim. When I went to pick up the dress, I asked her how long it took to trim it and she said about 45 minutes. What was all that BS about $15 an hour labor??? As if that wasn't a slap in the face enough, the dress was still too long and touched the floor even with shoes on! So I had to wait even longer for her to do it again. This was not fair to me and I feel like I got taken advantage of. I will be warning everyone not to go here ever! read more

Quality service and perfect for alterations that don't require a rush. I have taken three items in for alterations: jeans and a romper that needed to be hemmed and a jumpsuit that needed the sleeves taken in so it would stop falling off my shoulders. I have been a client of Kim's for three decades, though I have not been in for several years. I brought some small things in today and she said she was not accepting new clients. I said, well I am a very old client. I brought all my uniforms to her to be altered when she was on Shields Avenue. We used to talk about her couture ambitions. I've brought many things since at her new place. She said she did not remember me and basically bye bye. Wow. I am in business and sometimes things change. My mother was an outstanding seamstress. I can hardly sew on a button. When my clothes need alterations or repair, I need help. Gili Alterations is in my neighborhood, next door to my dry cleaners, and does a superb job at both repair and alterations. We needed a dress shorten for choir and we originally was going to somewhere that Fresno state music department recommended but they were closed unexpectedly. I searched on yelp and found this place. She was close to home and open. She has been in business over 30 years and knows her stuff. We were not in a hurry so it took about 2 weeks. She did great work and we took my mom's pants to be hemmed. Highly recommend her. read more

I give this place a 4 star because Kim does an excellent job on what you ask her to do. I have brought in 3 different dresses for her to work on. The first dress I bought in was the blue laced dress. My blue dress has 10 sections and a different lace trimming to the dress. She was able to hem the dress to fit and sow the trimming back on to the dress. I was very pleased. My second dress I brought for Kim was the red dress. I was disappointed when I received my dress but not because she didn't do a great job, she did. I had asked that she hem and take the slit on the dress higher because I was short and the slit was too low on me. She did exactly what I had asked her to. But what I wanted done, did not look nice. So the slit on my dress looked funny. I didn't complain because she did what I asked her to do. Now, the third dress that I brought in needed some the same work done as the red dress. This time, I expressed how I felt about my red dress and that I didn't want my third dress to look like that. She demonstrated with a piece of paper that there was no way to avoid the upside down "U" shaped look because of how the slit was already sown on. After I made a suggestion on how she can avoid the "U" shaped look, she was able to do it. I was very pleased this time around. I just wished with her expertise, she suggested that my red dress, what I wanted done might not look nice. I still give her a 5 star because she really does a good job. read more

Dropped off a sweater with a hole that needed repair and they Lost my sweater, when I went to pick up they had no system to verify it was received, and I was told I was out of luck. I asked what we could do about this and she told me sorry. They did a good job in the past for me but I wouldn't recommend any business who loses my property, and then does not take ownership. Ok so...it's an alteration shop. They are getting paid to alter the item to specifically how you want the item to suit you; that did not happen at all. Upon picking up my dress, I asked if it would be extra for the sleeves to be altered 1 inch off. The short haired rep said "yes". I was ok with that but instead she included the comment "just add double-sided tape and fold the sleeve, the event is only what, one day...one time use?" The dress was for graduation***so even if it was a one time use...it was one important event--my graduation from my nursing program!!!! So yes big deal!! Definitely not doing business there again! If only I knew how to use a sewing machine, I would be able to fix that 10 min job of cutting off 1 inch from my sleeves! Look else where cause they definitely judge their customers! read more

I recently started using Gili's for clothing alterations. I have never used them much in the past, so I have limited experience. I had to take in a nice pair of pants that needed the legs taken in, and they had them done in a few days time. I think when it was all said and done, it cost me something like $12 dollars, which to me was worth every penny! I believe the normal time for alterations is something like 2 weeks, but you can pay a few dollars extra to have them done quicker. (Which is what I did, and it didn't add to much extra to the overall cost.) As I said I am no expert in tailors or alteration, but it was a fair price to me. read more

I brought 2 of my jackets to elongate the sleeves as well as a dress to reduce the circumference of hip area. Alterations were done very well and for a reasonable price. Gili is not cheap, but not very expensive either. And I always remember that you get what you pay for. I have been coming to this place for years now and am always satisfied with Kims work. Recently brought my wedding dress in for shortening, kind of nervous at first since I heard you should always use someone who specializes in wedding dresses. So I got a couple estimates from these "specialists" and all I can say i s "ouch". The prices I was quoted were scary. Not only did my dress cost me a pretty penny but now I had to pay another couple hundred for the hem!? Decided to use Gilis after speaking to Kim and getting a very fair quote and peace of mind after she spoke of her experience with wedding dresses. The lady who works here should change her name to "Miracle Worker." Back in September I bought a non stretchy chiffon bridesmaid dress that was 1 size smaller than I usually wear. I though for sure come April I would be able to fit in my dress. Well, let's just say I didn't shed my winter coat and my two options were to either get the dress altered or spend over $200 to get a new size. I came to Gili's Alterations and I am so glad I did. She was able to add to my dress where I needed it and made it shorter to fit my height. I am so glad I came here, the dress now fits me and looks better than before. Price wise, she is soooooo reasonable. I took it to get dry cleaned and the dry cleaning was almost as much as the alteration. If you like a bespoke look and fit to your clothes, have them altered here. I brought my wedding tuxedo here, which I ordered through a MTM website, and Kim (the owner) helped me decide what the right fit should be for my alterations. Kim was overwhelmingly recommended to me by friends on Facebook -- and for good reason. Her work is impeccable. It's impossible to tell, even upon careful examination, that any of my clothes have been altered. Since my wedding tux was a such a success, I've had Kim alter all of my business clothes: Banana Republic dress shirts, a wool double breasted peacoat, sports coats and suits, and countless pairs of slacks that were slightly large at the waist and long in the leg length. After Kim and her team alter my clothes, I look in the mirror feeling like a million bucks. Well-fitting clothes make all the difference. The turnaround time is relatively good and prices are very affordable. Turnaround time tends to be anywhere between 5-12 business days, assuming multiple garments. read more

Two years ago I bought a bridesmaid dress from David's Bridal for a friend's wedding. I ordered a size smaller than usual because I thought I would be motivated to lose weight to fit into it.
