Inside the Stonestown Branch of SFFCU

I don't usually write reviews, but I am stuck here, waiting for estimated 30 minutes once again, because their ATM is always broken. Their supposed network ATMs do not accept deposits. I'm stuck here, trying to do a basic transaction (cash deposit) in line with a full house of other people and dogs. Here at the end of February, it will be March in two days, but the Christmas decorations are still up. Lots of folks full of mucus, coughing without covering their mouths, so bring an N95 mask, for your own health and safety. You would think firefighters/paramedics/EMTs would care more about public health and safety, but nah. Think again. Last time I was here, the (30's-40's white male) bank staff worker who took my deposit was super rude, but I forgot his name. I will update my review if the customer service is bad here again today, but still waiting, so haven't talked to any employees yet. You sign in to wait in line via a touchscreen. If the wait is more than 5 minutes, you should be allowed to leave your phone number to be texted, instead of having to sit here for half an hour with sick people coughing at you.

A teller kindly helped squeeze me in, but the process only deteriorated from there. I submitted all required documents the same day and was told to expect a response within 3 business days. I followed up multiple times, including asking for a courtesy confirmation before returning for my scheduled meeting. No response -- from the branch or the designated virtual banker who was looped in as my point of contact. On the day of the meeting, I was told the application could not proceed due to "missing documents," only to find out my emails with all required materials were never reviewed. I explicitly asked for a same-day follow-up to confirm whether the materials could be submitted and reviewed on an expedited basis. That follow-up never happened. I had already rearranged work and personal commitments multiple times based on their guidance. This reflects a complete breakdown in coordination, accountability, and follow-through across the team. There is no "relationship" in this so-called relationship banking experience. Taking my business elsewhere.

I actually think this branch has gone above & beyond in many respects. I called numerous WF branches looking for safe deposit boxes. Not only did they actually answer their phone, but Melina proceeded to assist me to the fullest. I had made an appointment to go in to inspect & possibly rent the box since I wasn't sure if the size would be adequate. Melina gladly held 2 boxes for me. On the day of the appointment, we had to stand in quite a long line outside, but was glad to do it due to safety concerns during the Delta surge. When we got to the door & the very nice security guard let us in, we told her we had an appointment at 11am. We're a little late due to the line. She smiled & told us next time just come to the front for appointments. She then led us to a waiting area & even pulled up chairs for us. This is the security guard... not a banker, so this just signifies this branch's welcoming attitude. Unfortunately for us, I had gotten my days mixed up & our actual appointment was the day before. Instead of just telling us to come back another day, Jose, I think he's the branch manager, made sure we didn't waste a trip & go away empty handed. He brought out the boxes for us to inspect so we could confirm the size prior to committing to the rental. This was much appreciated! We then made an appointment to come back & complete the transaction. On the day of our 2nd appointment, Oswaldo helped us finish the process quickly & without stress. All in all, everyone we dealt with at the 16th street branch were friendly, welcoming, & efficient. We would recommend them to anyone & everyone in a heartbeat.

While there may have been a minor technical question regarding the handwriting on the check, the way the staff handled it was appalling. Instead of providing a professional explanation or assistance, the supervisor was incredibly rude and dismissive. When I mentioned escalating the issue, the supervisor literally laughed in my face. This level of arrogance and lack of basic customer service is unacceptable. Even if a transaction cannot be processed, there is no excuse for a bank representative to mock a customer. I will be taking my business elsewhere and filing a formal complaint regarding this individual's conduct.

Huge credit to the lending department for funding my auto loan in just two days. I had recently applied with several other credit unions, and some are still reviewing my documents more than a week later. In contrast, SF Credit Union provided clear communication, regular updates, and a streamlined process from start to finish. Not only did they offer one of the most competitive rates I found during my research, but they also didn't require unnecessary conditions such as direct deposit commitments or other hoops to jump through. If you're in the market for an auto loan--especially if you're purchasing a Rivian--I highly recommend giving SF Credit Union a look. Their customer service, transparency, and efficiency made the entire experience exceptionally smooth.

I got a jumbo home loan through SFFCU. Would highly recommend!…read more My previous lender was botching my house close. Pretty much everything that could go wrong was going wrong - increasing costs, a surprise demand 1 week before close that I rent my current home out with a lease & a paid deposit, and denial of part of my income a few days before close. It felt like it was falling apart - it was messy on the lender's part, and stressful for me. I didn't want to continue - I negotiated an extension with seller, and then switched over to SFFCU. What a night & day difference! The team listened carefully to the situation, was clear up front with all requirements & potential underwriting risks, and we discussed how we could mitigate. What was great was they were able to talk to underwriter and get high level alignment up front to reduce uncertainty. Once I switched over, they swiftly got to work. Early on, they proactively called me and told me when rates were decreasing, and when rates were going to increase and I should lock in. I also had access to 3 different people on the team (Tim, Jazmin, and Tina) who all played a part, and depending on what was needed, I could easily get a hold of any of them with a quick call. Overall it was a smooth close process, and with the best rates I could find on the market.

I had an extremely upsetting and discriminatory experience at this Wells Fargo location…read more I came in to cash a valid government-issued check. The employee who helped me, Jeffrey, immediately treated me with suspicion and refused to cash it, claiming he couldn't "verify" it. His tone and body language made it feel like he was assuming I was attempting fraud, despite no clear explanation being given. When I asked to speak with a manager, he refused and said he was a supervisor, denying me the opportunity to escalate or even understand the decision properly. The interaction felt dismissive, condescending, and unnecessary. What makes this even worse is that I went to another Wells Fargo branch just a few blocks away immediately afterward, and they verified and cashed the exact same check instantly with zero issues. No interrogation. No hesitation. That alone speaks volumes. Based on how I was treated and the contrast between branches, I felt profiled and discriminated against. As a person of color, it is hard not to conclude that my appearance and skin color influenced how I was judged and handled in this situation. This experience was humiliating and stressful. Banks should not make customers feel criminalized for conducting legitimate business. Wells Fargo claims to value fairness and inclusion, but that was absolutely not reflected here. I would strongly caution others--especially people of color--to be aware that treatment at this location may depend on who you are, not policy.
