We started going to the Daly City branch about 2 years ago. Even though we have a branch closer to us in our city we felt the DC branch team are much more efficient. The window staff are quicker and the branch manager, Tony Roldan is very friendly and service oriented, always with a smile for all his clients. Over this time period Tony had assisted us twice with our notary documents and once with an account issue. He is great on details, very professional and has excellent client relations. I noticed clients often greets him on passing by, which meant he's well respected in this office. Bottom line, if we need to do in-person banking, we drive 6 miles farther for Tony and his team. Signed up to get an account here! Wow, this was certainly an experience to NOTE for anyone else coming to this particular location. If you do sign up be aware that you will most likely have to wait at least 45 minutes to an hour to meet with a banker because there are not a lot bankers at this location. If you need to wait for a teller, depending on the time of day, it may take the same amount of time as well. Every time that I have come here there has only been 2 teller working. That makes absolutely no sense at all. However, in seeing the HIRING sign in the window I can get why they never have more tellers!!! Oh, you have to ring a bell before you enter into this branch location. Waiting can be a bit of a pain but the apologies for the wait can defuse the frustration, somewhat! Once you sit down with a banker everything starts to speed up just a bit. Side note: when I came in and sat to wait for a banker there was a lady sitting with a banker that had to have been meeting with a banker for over an hour!). When I finally met with a banker all I needed to do was sing a couple of documents to complete my account. It seemed like it took forever but I was glad when everything was finally done. GEEZ As far the ATMs at this location, SUCKS! There is only one ATM and it is outside and exposed to everyone without any kind of privacy or encasing. Why not have multiple and have them inside for customers that do not want to meet with a teller!!! Seriously, how much money would it cost to make this happen. Patelco branches are actually some of the few places I don't dread having to go take care of banking type things - especially this branch. I know others don't like when people who are supposed to be "serving" you butt into your business, but I think it was quite nice that the teller who helped me when I made a somewhat large deposit a few weeks ago said that she hoped her daughter could be as responsible as I am and know how to save money (warm fuzzies! Yay!). I don't like being helped by robots. Each of the tellers I've spoken to here have been really helpful and especially patient with my weird banking habits. ("Here is x amount of money, please put this amount in this account, this amount in this other one, and cash back of bla-bla-bla with these bill denominations.") I did dock a star for parking, and the younger teller who seems to gossip about her co-workers when they're not close-by, I've seen her a couple of times. That's slightly unnecessary, but not a huge fiasco. read more

I have been banking with Patelco for about 10 years now and decided to use them for a new home loan on this recent home purchase. Cecilia Diaz is definitely the go-to Loan Consult! My situation was complicated in which I put an offer on whim and was accepted, and it just so happens that I was going abroad for long trip and leaving within 3 weeks. Luckily, I already had a loan lined up. The same day I brought all the necessary paperwork, Cecilia already got me a preliminary approval on the loan, then fully approved in a few days. Because of Cecilia's tenacity, we closed out the deal in less than 3 weeks and received the house keys the night before I flew out. I am very grateful for Cecilia's help. She took out all the stresses that I would have to deal with the seller's agent and the mortgage company. She has your best interest and will find the right loan for you. There are a lot of mixed reviews when it comes to Patelco. For myself, this place is about average. It doesn't have the nifty knicknacks that big banks have like being able to deposit via your smartphone, but it has the basic necessities like checking and savings. They may not always have the hospitable employee - but there are nice ones once in awhile (like today there was this rare teller who greeted regular customers by name and made small talk. Too bad I didnt catch her name so I could not her down here) However, Patelco does have some high points. If you travel to another country like the UK, either have an existing bank over there (HSBC) or use Patelco. With Patelco the rates you are charged for using ATM withdrawals or as a debit card are more reasonable compared to using an actual credit card or some other debit card. Of course if you have HSBC... then you can avoid all that but if you didnt open that account and just had Patelco then yey for you - your travel expenses overall wont be as crazy as it could have been. read more

Due to my own inability to think well and a snafu with Social Security, I defaulted on my credit card payments. Instead of asking Patelco for help immediately, I waited and destroyed my credit. Ugh. Finally, I went to see Tony, the Manager, at the Daly City Patelco. He graciously helped me get my past-due account paid off and reinstituted my checking account. Tony never once shamed me or did anything negative. His only obvious goal was to help me. Wow. A Banker whose goal was and is to help a member of the Credit Union! I'm so frustrated and disappointed in the experience I got when I tried to use my debit card to transfer money into my brokerage. I have been trying to buy Bitcoin and the brokerage firms for cryptocurrency use a third party company that operates out of list of banned countries according to their Fraud Department. First day was fine, I was able to transfer some money. I understand the challenge that the Fraud Department has in front of them. But the Card Service agent wrote a letter to the Fraud Department that I authorized the transaction. Next day I needed to move more funds and all of my attempts were declined! I called the Card Service department and they told me that they had done everything that they can do for me! They said that the Fraud Department can override their request and essentially decline the transaction even when I am authorizing the transaction! That is so lame! I essentially have no way of accessing my own money because the Fraud Department wants to override my authorization to use my own money? How does that even make sense? I used to be a fan of Patelco Credit Union, but now I have other opinions about them! In the meantime I am missing my opportunity to buy Bitcoin at the price that I want because of their delays! I would have done an ACH or wire transfer, but that is not an option for me! They need to alter their policies on the Fraud Department! I feel like victim of their Fraud Department policies! I was at the Daly City Patelco about a month ago, made a deposit, then asked the teller service rep a question; he didn't know the answer but offered to get it. I was in a hurry and decline. The next time I was there, he looked at me, then opened his drawer/ took out a manila folder with my name and told me the answer. Wow, he REMEMBERED me, and followed through - this left such a great feeling. What great customer experience; I asked for his name and just had to post this -- he left an indelible impression as well as for Patelco. By the way, the young man's name is Andy Tsang - Good luck to him, he will go places in customer service. The Good. The Bad. The Ugly. The Good. Credit Unions are a great idea. More money for the customer and it boosts local economy. Patelco is a good financial institution and are service oriented. Definitely worth to check out if you are looking for a bank. The Bad. Their holds policy just bites. I deposit about 15% of what's in my account, but there is always a 2-3 day hold on those funds. I am told it's because I don't have relationship with the bank. I'm sorry I can't afford a home and can't get a loan with the bank but even though I was ready to dive head first into our relationship, I am now being told we don't have one. I have to persuade the teller to not place the hold. The Ugly. I don't know if anyone in the branch knows how to smile. I do the banking in our household and have been in plenty of times to at least catch one smile... but, no. I feel no love from Patelco. Makes me wonder if I should have "broken up" with my bank in the first place. I want to go back to my ex now. I used to work for a bank (not a credit union) and it took a lot for my wife to convince me to switch to credit unions. I love Patelco Credit Union. I've been a loyal customer for more than 10 years now. But good gracious this branch has the worst customer service. I waited in line for 53 minutes along with other people just to make a withdrawal . They have 3 bank tellers, one was trainee, the other one was clearing some checks and the last one was doing something "important" that she has to ignore the long line. It's fuc*** common sense if you're the manager to ask your clerks to stop what they are doing and clear the lines and then finish up with what they're doing when there's no more people waiting. That's a basic customer service. It's not rocket science. That didn't end there, after she finished the "important" thing that she was doing. She got up and went to lunch. WOW! To top it all when it was finally my turn to get help. The fu*** guy yelled "how much are you withdrawing!" Like, WTF! I came in to this branch and was greeted by Rosario. I explained to her that I wanted to open a savings account and/or a secured credit card. And that I am doing this because I wanted to re-establish my credit. I left unsatisfied and I don't expect to ever come back here again. Rosario's desk: Don't expect privacy when discussing with her your banking needs as her cubicle is at the very front of the bank and when she speaks, she speaks loud enough that other patrons who pass by can hear what you are discussing. Also, you might as well include the security guard in your meeting as he is only about 4 feet away from where you are seating. No privacy here at all! Lack of confidentiality. Paper work: She is knowledgeable about Patelco's product, however she doesn't explain what you are signing. EVERYONE, please read the fine print and even ask the banker to explain to you what they want you to sign. It was never disclosed to me that I was signing a credit authorization until later I had to ask her. Tellers: I was the only person in line and there were three tellers. Two of the tellers closed and they didn't even acknowledge me in line. When I got to the teller to submit a payment, I gave her my payment. All of a sudden, she looked at the screen for 6 minutes and when I as how come it is taking long to finish my transaction, I found out she was instant messaging Rosario on her end. She could have least told what she was doing as she seeks advice for my request to close my account. Anyhow, credit union offers great rates. BUT customer service is way below the standard par would be when it comes to professional banking. And then the privacy part! I went to Bank of America next door and I believe they gave me the best customer service ever. They even provided me the privacy I needed when it comes to conversing with a banker. I opened a checking and saving account with them instead. I opened an Ally savings account online as well from the convenient of my home with better rates available for me. read more

I was a member of Patelco for about a year and I have to say this is the worst credit union ever. After about a year of being a member, I applied for a credit card and was turned down with no explanation. I had a full time job, good credit and no debts. I closed my account and went with the San Francisco Police Credit Union. I applied for a credit card with them and was given one. To date I have my credit card with them and in good standing. The customer service at Patelco was also the worst. I belong to two different credit unions, the one mentioned above and San Francisco Federal Credit Union and I have never had any problems with them. I went into Patelco today with my teen daughter to deposit two checks into her account that she has with another credit union. She gave the teller her account number, showed her ATM card and her school issued ID card. The teller refused to accept her checks because of her ID. Everything was under her name the checks, the ATM card, and the ID. I tried to explain that she's a minor and her school issued ID is what she uses and it's never been an issue anywhere else. The teller then tells us to use the ATM to deposit the checks and when I told her that we tried but it didn't work she said that wasn't their problem. That right there was the exact same reason why I closed my account with Patelco. We left and walked over to the San Mateo Credit union right next to Trader Joes and we had no problems depositing the checks there with the student I.D. I love credit unions because they offer the best rates and are overall better than banks. I highly encourage people to join a credit union just not Patelco. read more
