Great experience from start to finish and could not recommend more highly. Very convenient location for public transit on Bart and Muni and the Union Square parking garage is only a few blocks away so quick walk over. The space is small and private so no worries about folks wandering by when you're getting your waxing done. This was especially important since I was getting some intimate areas done. Gil is such a chill and cool person. He explained everything along the way and really put me at ease, especially since this was my first time ever doing anything like this. It very quickly just felt like a pretty normal hair cut even though the hair being groomed was very different. He reminds me to take an aspirin or ibuprofen beforehand to take the edge off, ensures I'm properly hydrated, and continues to check-in regarding his technique to make certain that my discomfort is minimal. ** Gil does a fantastic job at minimizing the embarrassment factor. Let's face it, you don't come to a place like this because you want a classy gentleman's shave and a haircut, sitting in your Armani suit. You come here because you have back hair that makes people lobby that the census should be inclusive with a "wookie" category in 2013. You come here because somebody will be looking at your naughty parts and they want them to resemble an adult film star and not a neglected piece of shrubbery. So face the inevitable... if you want a part that doesn't see the light of day much to be professionally groomed, you're going to, at some point, have to show that part brazenly so that the aesthetician can do his job. Pull of your big-boy pants and get into the downward dog. Ain't nothing he hasn't seen before. *** Gil minimizes his overhead, charges very reasonably, and yet gives you professional grade service. You could have it done cheaper, but you may limp home before calling a dermatologist to get a skin graft replaced when some paraprofessional who's taken a 12 hour course takes three layers of epidermis off of your taint along with your short and curlies. As a first timer waxing downstairs I wasn't sure how things would go. I was, however, reassured by Gil's prompt responses and answers to the questions I had. Booked an appointment and went to see him. After introductions and explanations of how the process worked I disrobed and let him do his thing. I've previously waxed my back and the first time is always the worst. This was similar but the prep and aftercare helped take the sting out of it. Just a few seconds of discomfort was well worth the result. I'm about a week in and things are nice and clean down there. Beats the odd ingrown hair and inconvenience of shaving. I had ALL the extra special sensitive areas done and I expected it to be painful but Gil was so skilled that not only didn't it hurt but I rather enjoyed it. In anticipation of the pain I had stopped to grab a mini bottle of tequila because I read somewhere it helps with the pain but when I got there he already an assortment of adult beverages available.
