After my absolute favorite restaurant, Frice, closed in the spring I've been wandering to find a suitable replacement for the true Szchuan experience. Shabu House is located in the same shopping center near UCR as Frice was, so that's a good start. Even better, they have some comparable, if different takes on old favorites, such as fried pork ribs with spicy peppers and Szchuan peppercorns, and braised ribs. I've only just begun to explore the menu here but so far it's been good for both service and output. The gyozas are freshly made and the ribs were tender, although I'd like to see them cut in half, or even thirds for easier to eat portions nonetheless, the quality I'd here and adjusting to the differences will take more visits.

Not really shabu lol, more like just hot pot with bland meat and veggies. Hopefully only when we went it was bland, but in general it was bland, the place is not very big so not worth the wait, there's other places to eat lol.. pricing is eh I guess, again not really worth your try lol.

Came to Shabu house in a big group to celebrate my sisters birthday. Feels like the prices in Riverside are a bit cheaper than la, which is a good thing! Only thing is I ordered the beef sukiyaki little spicy and it turned out to be very spicy I should've been aware that in Asian restaurants little spicy can mean pretty spicy. Price was reasonable 16.99 for a hot boiling soup with fire underneath. It had fishball, sticky rice, noodles, beef, cabbage, tomato a whole variety. I would come back here but never any bit of spice in it. The soup flavor was good if only there wasn't spice in it. This Resturant has a whole variety of Asian dishes from hot pot, sushi, noodles, different Chinese side dishes.

Extensive menu for anyone to enjoy. Their curry soup was delicious and filling. The sushi was fresh and flavorful, the beef and broccoli was also really good with crunchy broccoli, savory sauce and tender beef. Definitely recommend! Staff was very attentive and friendly. Their menu is by QR code so keep that in mind. You order and pay through the QR code as well.

Shabu House definitely was deceiving when it comes to shabu. We were craving some shabu shabu and our normal go to was closed so we tried this spot out. We arrived and were told to sit wherever and scan to order. We chose the beef pot and lamb pot, the food came fairly quick. The pots looked ok until I tasted my broth. The lamb broth tasted like powdered bone broth soup with ham steeped in it......as I dug more into the bowl, I found chunks of ham. This gave the bowl the flavor of a leftover Thanksgiving meal. The beef bowl had more of a curry flavor and ham in it as well. They also do not have dipping sauces. Both beef and lamb were quite chewy. For a place called shabu house this was a total fumble. People seem to like their Chinese food. I wont be back to check that out though.

Shabu House has a large variety of food. I couldn't pin point exactly what style of asian food this fall under but they have hot pot, sushi and your regular asian dishes like stir fried green beans, orange chicken, beef fried noodles, etc. I love hot pot so I was excited to try it. I ordered the beef sukiyaki pot. The size is similar to most hot pot places, but I felt there was a lot of veggies vs anything else in the pot. The flavor was okay and the sauces lacked. I wouldn't come back for the hot pot if I had other choices in the area. My friend ordered 2 sushi rolls and they looked really good. I would try the sushi rolls next time. I ordered orange chicken to go for my husband. I assumed white rice would come with the entree, but it did not! I was honestly very surprised as I thought that was a given.

NEW SHABU HOUSE IN THE VILLAGE! Food: Right of the bat I will give this place a 10/10 on food. Each soup is $15.99 and a huge portion. My miso soup was amazing and filling and had a paste to go with it to add flavor. The kimchi soup was the right amount of spice and also very filling. Overall the price point is very solid. Service was great, they were attentive and kind. Located in the village great place for a quick bite, dessert, and a drink afterwards. Overall eating 8.5/10

    Expired ginger and old avocado.

Just got sushi to go and I was very disappointed. The California roll sushi wasn't the best at all, the avocado was bad already and had mold. And the ginger was expired as well. Not to mention they answered the tip without telling me and didn't want to give me the receipt. One thing for sure is I'm never going there.

3.5 rounded up as I think it probably deserves another shot and the cons were not terrible all around. Pros -contrary to a different review, the beef sukiyaki (ordered it at level "spicy") is extremely flavorful. -does have a variety of sauces - I liked the portions to cost level plus the beef brisket was great - probably one of the few places that have the soup over flame brought to your table (the other being ten ren) in this area. If I had to compare to ten ren, I think this is much better for what you pay for. Cons - for me, mine was rather salty. I definitely wouldn't recommend my particular order for those with high blood pressure and probably should order it less salty. It could be that the hot sauce used to make it spicy is also salted. Either way, it was one of the rare times I didn't finish the soup. - I think the menu is a bit strange to be honest - for example, the lamb comes with mussel. The beef sukiyaki comes with fish, fish tofu, and fish balls. They probably should allow for a dish that is completely no seafood for the people who dislike it. - sesame sauce was oddly thick in consistency but tasted fine. - it's too strong in flavors in a way - not really much room to use the sauces. For the salt level of my sauce, the best one was sesame sauce as it didn't add too much salt to it and can still taste it. - extremely minor con is that the name doesn't match the food - this isn't shabu shabu. They serve some pre-made soups similar to boiling point and sushi. As much as there were cons, I did like the food and wouldn't mind trying it again to see if maybe it was a fluke in saltiness given other reviews. I do hope to support the restaurant since there really isn't an option like it (ten ren is more "fast food" ish).

Stumbled upon Shabu House and was pleasantly surprised! The prices are very fair for their portion size and would even say they give a generous amount of meat. I'comparison to other hot pot places in the area, I think the price and overall taste of the meal is very solid. I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try! I would recommend getting the lamb sukiyaki! The sauces were a nice addition and compliment the meal. I personally liked the chili oil and shacha sauce. Staff was very friendly and attentive; and food is served quickly. The restaurant is a casual sit down and you can order your food directly from your phone!

We chose to sit outside on the patio because it was less stuffy and loud versus sitting indoors. I ordered asada Cali fries and some other members of my party ordered beer, cocktails, taquitos and various tacos. Some friends selected al pastor as their protein for their tacos, and were informed that it was not available. Then we had an above average wait time for everything. We were told the kitchen was out of al pastor meat, so they would sub some tacos with asada/chicken/etc.. Then we were told the al pastor meat was located, and our orders were restored. Then I received my Cali fries with al pastor meat, which I had not ordered. I observed other members of our party wait for very inconsistent periods of time for beverages. I recall some receiving complicated cocktails before a canned domestic beer. The food and drinks were well enough, once it all arrived. We did not mind too much because we were all going out to another bar in downtown Riverside afterwards. My Cali fries had some strong papas because they held up to the ocean of melted cheese they were drowned in. It was more like a caldo. A couple members of the party had issues with their bills and our server was responsive to correcting any pricing issues. There is no longer merch, a mural, art or vinyl records for decor but the new owner assured us that they are working to have another local artist paint a new mural. An average experience, not bad! It was a good place to hang out and chat with friends, as we were not in any rush.

Although they advertise taco Tuesday (1/2 price tacos) and a la carte tacos, we were informed these options were only available until 12pm. The taquitos were pretty bland with good guac. Tacos were again, average, with somewhat flavorless rice and beans. The highlight of the night was the service. Patrick at the bar was friendly and playful. The holiday cocktail was delicious. Due to living nearby, we will probably be back to try again when the new owners have more time under their belts. Happy eating Yelpers!

I ordered the beef ramen, and the flavor was great. The beef tasted really good, and the broth had nice depth. I do wish they offered more condiments on the table so you can adjust the broth to your liking--spicy, savory, etc. My food took a little while to come out, but it ended up being worth the wait. The price was also a big plus: $13.99 for a bowl of ramen, a sushi roll, and a drink is a great deal. My wife ordered two rolls--the Salmon on Fire and the Caterpillar Roll. Both were tasty and comparable to what we've had at other sushi spots. We also tried the gyozas, which were average. Customer service could use some improvement. Our waitress wasn't rude, but she seemed rushed and tried to take our order almost immediately after we sat down. Since it was our first time, we needed a moment to look over the menu. Overall, the food and value were solid, but the service and small details could be better. I'd rate Sushi R 91 a 3.5 out of 5.

Seriously -- I got a small for around $3-something (the exact prices are on the menu board), and the medium and large are only about a dollar more each. Check out the picture -- all three sizes are lined up together. And if you're thinking, "Okay, the boba must be cheap because it's low quality," think again. It was actually so good. The flavor was delicious, and the tapioca pearls were the perfect consistency: sweet, soft, chewy, squishy, and perfectly sunken to the bottom the way good boba should be. To be totally honest, my husband and I had walked in and back out of this place several times before finally trying it. The inside is very dark, and with the huge screen right when you walk in combined with the dark floors and tables, it's not the most inviting atmosphere at first glance. It could probably use a remodel -- but honestly, if remodeling means raising the prices, please leave it exactly as it is. We finally went in with friends, and the staff ended up being incredibly kind and polite. On top of that, they have a ton of add-in options: popping boba in different flavors, milk pudding, regular pudding, and so many other customization choices.
