I grew up with Ten Ren so I may be a bit biased but had a great experience at this location! Got the popcorn chicken rice which was fantastic. The chicken always hits, portion size is generous, and the dish comes with a good variety of sides as well. Their boba was great as well. Got the classic green tea and an oolong. Tea tasted great and the boba was soft and chewy. Feels like I tend to take Ten Ren for granted since I've had it so much, but it's a safe bet for good food and boba! I remember Ten Ren's popularity when I was a kid and they began popping up all over the east coast. That was when boba first started becoming popular in the US. It was one of the first boba tea shops I've ever been to. During that time, they were considered the premium pricey boba place. Not so much anymore as boba has saturated the market in the following two plus decades. Oh how times have changed. As I grew up and made my way to the west coast, I've seen them in predominantly Asian areas but never really went because there were just so many other options around. Fast forward to today, Riverside is one of the areas that doesn't have as many Asian options as previous places I've resided. At least Ten Ren's is a familiar name so I gave it a go today after a long hiatus! Let's jump straight into my favorite item. The braised beef noodle soup here is fire! The broth is rich and umami, large chunks of tender braised beef, great noodles (or a dumplings option), fresh veggies and Chinese pickled cabbage. A solid and authentic Taiwanese beef noodle soup that I would come back for. I also had the popcorn chicken, takoyaki and fried tofu. They were good but the beef noodle soup stole the show. The popcorn chicken was a bit overcooked but great seasoning. I got the highest level "Very Spicy" which had a kick but was definitely tolerable. Fried tofu could use more sauce and reheats really well in the air fryer! Lastly, for drinks, I got the Mango Milk Icee. I like that you can select two toppings but I could barely detect the mango. It tasted more caramel or brown sugar forward to me. Either way, it was still enjoyable as a dessert to finish off the meal. They have a vast selection of drinks so I'm sure I'll eventually find a favorite here. read more

After many years away, the Pandemic was partly to blame, I found myself returning to a favorite haunt. The primary difference being that I no longer had to grade stacks of papers and lockdown for hours. Hours that allowed me to work my way around the menu, try many of their outstanding tea-based drinks, and one that isn't (Love Potion #6). So, top favorite entrees include minced pork and rice bowls, congee, ramen (neither the greatest nor the worst), dumplings, spicy wontons, popcorn chicken, beef with dumplings soup, and sometimes the beef rolls and green onion pancake. I've always enjoyed the atmosphere, even if the hours of operation are much less nowadays. Who knows, perhaps I've even met my future gf? My wife and I came here again recently for the first time in about 8 years and the quality has dropped quite a bit. We came here as our first date and we thought to relive the experience. Food: Popcorn chicken and green onion pancake were ordered. Chicken was definitely burnt and left in the fryer for too long. Green onion pancakes were very oily and had a hint of flavor. My coffee was very bitter, also unflavored. Service: Service was okay. Nothing noteworthy. As with many things, shrinkflation has hit this cafe. It can be seen in the form of plastic straws (was bamboo), plastic bags (was reusable), and smaller portions. Their boba was terrible today which is always a let down at teahouses. Most people go to Ten Ren for good tea and boba; I cannot vouch for either on my 2 most recent trips. In one of our other trips the owner remembered us and offered a couple samples of free boba. It was pretty good during that trip, but more often than not the boba is undercooked and gummy or hard. As for the teas, I'm not sure what happened to my favorite white peach oolong that I got all the way up through Autumn before they phased it out of season. It's definitely not the same drink. I even tried guava green tea and several of their fruit teas just taste of flavored syrup and water, there is barely any tea flavor to speak of. This is different than the samples you try near the register oddly enough. Their food is still good and I'm always grateful for vegetarian options, but if you're vegan or a strict vegetarian -- they use one fryer for everything. So crispy tofu, fries, & egg rolls are not technically vegetarian. The good news is their egg pudding doesn't contain gelatin and is vegetarian. Be careful ordering vegetables and be sure to ask for the vegetarian version so they don't put braised pork stew on it. read more

Went for popcorn chicken and boba drinks, the food was good but the girl making the drinks had an attitude. I had placed an order for pick up and they missed boba in my drink even though I asked for it. I asked to pay for the boba to be added since it wasn't charged. The girl still had an attitude after and went to talk to her coworker about the situation right after, she didn't give me a boba straw after and when I asked for a straw she just walked over and said "our straws are over there" I kept saying thank you and she ignored me, it was my first time there so I found it a bit rude. Green Shaker by Ten Ren is a nice spot especially for the UCR folks! I think this is a pretty solid option and quality of food is very decent. Ambiance is good, lots of outlets to study if you want. ITEMS I TRIED - Popcorn Chicken Rice: crispy on the outside, nice spice especially with the medium. This comes with minced pork rice, corn, and braised tofu. - Taiwanese Sausage: really flavorful and authentic, garlic on the side. - White Peach Oolong Tea: really good peach flavor. Not at all artificial, and you can definitely taste the tea flavor. This is my favorite drink here. PARKING: side parking lot which makes the visit very convenient! PRICE: pretty decent. The meal with rice costs about $15 and the drinks are around $5-6. Overall, this is a great spot to explore for solid Taiwanese food. I'd definitely recommend it to others. read more

This Ten Ren's location is also one of the first I've tried back then, and the quality of the drinks and the friendly service are always on point! Moreover, the food offered here is always a treat! During my last visit here, I walked in about 30 mins before closing... the staff here were more than nice enough to receive and make my order as I was only ordering drinks. I ordered the Love Potion #6 and the Brown Sugar Milk Icee with egg pudding and coffee jelly. The Love Potion #6 tastes as awesome as it did when I first visited this Ten Ren's location back in 2012. The other drink was good, but came out too sweet for my liking - otherwise great. Tips: The kitchen closes about an hour prior to closing time. Came here on a hot summer day and wanted to enjoy some yummy goodies. I was craving shaved ice and unfortunately this place doesn't make this. I opted for a strawberry milk icee instead. I added egg pudding and soft grass jelly to my order but my drink was made incorrectly. They added boba instead of soft grass jelly and they were happy to remake my drink and it was quite delicious. It was not good. Someone got the cold noodles and the noodles were cooked terribly. I got the joy pot, spicy pork broth because the worker recommended it to me. It just tasted like overly spicy, artificial broth. I did not enjoy this. The green onion pancakes were the worst I've had. If you have to eat here though, get the curry katsu. Always my go to spot after a meal in the area and always order their iced house coffee. I don't know what it is about Ten Ren's Tea Time but their iced house coffee is second to none. Similar to other Ten Ren's spots that I've come to love, this location doesn't disappoint and consistently serves delicious iced house coffee. The only thing that annoys me about this spot is the parking. Good luck finding parking, is all I can pretty much say. Guess it can't be helped, though, as this location seems to be a prime spot for locals. In any case, if you're familiar with Ten Ren's Tea Time brand then you'll obviously love this joint. That girl that is always there since my freshman year (i am a senior now) has had the worst attitude every single time I've come in. I've been a loyal customer and nothing but respectful and she is always rude, not welcoming, and passive aggressive towards me and my friends. One time, I didn't hear my order come out and she yelled it instead of repeating it nicely, like leaving the drink on the counter was the end of the world. She's the one always making the drinks and it was wayyyyyy too sweet for me and my friends. Now I remember why I stopped coming for a bit and it's because of her. Like damn! I was absolutely disappointed. What I ordered was a strawberry Matcha Milk Tea. First of all, the color of the Matcha does not look like quality Matcha, It was a brownish green color.
