I called NorthStar, my security company, to see if they'd ever heard of these guys and they told me that "reputable firms don't go door to door." That reminded me that I was overdue for writing them a review. My husband and I (well, my husband mostly), interviewed four or five firms before selecting this one. Their installers are also their sales guys. In other words, these are people who know their stuff. Nobody tried to sell us something we didn't need. The guy who came out - and followed us through some installation difficulties (way our house was built, not NorthStar's fault) - his name is Gary. He is friendly and SUPER knowledgeable. He explained things and then explained them again and gave my engineer-husband all the detail he wanted. But when I had a question and DIDN'T want the detail - he boiled it down for me. Their pricing was similar to other firms we talked with. Pay for the equipment and have lower monthly monitoring, or do a 3-yr contract with higher monthly monitoring and lower/no equipment costs. They give you several options to work with your budget. Bottom line is, they weren't significantly higher or lower than anybody else. We had our first "false alarm" the other day. Our nanny accidentally set off the alarm and while she was punching the code in downstairs, my husband was also punching it in on the keypad upstairs, which cancelled the whole thing. Kinda funny actually. The monitoring service called us WITHIN TWO MINUTES. I was glad to know they were on the ball just in case we need them for real some day. In the end, we went with this firm because they were the most knowledgeable, didn't have pushy sales people, so we felt confident we were getting the info we needed to make a good decision. Turned out to be a very good decision!

CFA was quick to respond with a detailed quote and were super flexible in scheduling the work. Even paying the deposit was painless and easy. So, the work. It was done quickly, professionally and cleanly. The techs on-site conferred with me what their approach was and we figured out exactly how I'd like the job to be done. I appreciated the quality of service so much that I plan on hiring CFA again for additional low voltage work. Final note, as a new homeowner for the first time I was nervous about possible damage to the dry wall, plumbing and electricity. Luckily, quickly after the work started I could see the care that was taken and was immediately relieved.

Top Quality visited in February to adjust our HVAC unit vent and change the filter, and we talked…read moreabout setting up a yearly maintenance plan. Everything was and had been working fine at that point. A couple months later, the unit stopped cooling. We called TQ back out and all of a sudden the coolant was 100% empty. We were told that there were "king valves" broken and a leak somewhere else, but their tech could not find it. We were given quotes up to over $13,000.00, pressing for a whole system replacement. They offered a repair conditional upon "we might still find something else." No further attempt to try to find the leak they insisted we had. Other opinions found o-rings missing on the outdoor unit, all of the seals/gaskets on it loose, and a large amount of debris that suggested a very large and fast coolant spray. One of them also said that Top Quality's guy did not even check the coil in the attic because some sort of original seal was still on the cover/door. No one could find any leak. One of the alternate opinion companies perfomed an overnight test where he put something in the unit to see if it would leak out. It held 100%. He filled the unit with coolant, fixed the valves and seals, and it has been working just fine again since at a TINY fraction of the cost Top Quality wanted. Now these are not my words but those of the other opinions. That the tech from Top Quality didn't know what he was doing, to run away as fast as possible, and that it even reminded them of situations they had heard of where techs had drained a system of its coolant to re-sell it. It does seem strange that a simple filter change and vent adjustment turned into an empty unit within a couple of months (or sooner, as we had not been using it much yet because it wasn't hot enough, so we wouldn't have known until later), with no leak able to be found by anyone, and a unit working just fine now for several months with just a coolant refill.

The Cat6 ports mean I don't have to share my wifi with others in the house who are using it for less lucrative pastimes like watching TV and gaming. Comcast / Xfinity no longer installs ports (I checked) and I had no idea it would be SOOOO difficult to find someone to do this type of work. Turns out, most companies only do this type of wiring for commercial or NEW residential because no one likes do wall-fishing. So I was thrilled when I finally found 7 Stars Communications and they were willing to come out and take a look: Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Marques when he came to my home to provide me with an estimate for taking care of some Cat5 (technically Cat6 wiring) / ethernet ports. I also asked about installing a different wall mount for the large TV in the family room. Mr. Marques was prompt, courteous, professional and - most of all knowledgeable. His estimate wasn't the cheapest of the providers interviewed - but it was affordable and I felt comfortable that he would treat my home with respect. On the day of the appointment, Mr. Marques worked efficiently and took great care to clean up after himself (sawdust, packaging, old wires, etc - none of that was left behind). The TV looks great on it's new mount: no visible wires and we can now pull it away from the wall and pivot it 90 degrees, so that we can watch TV even when we're bundled up in front of the fireplace! But best of all: no more pictures freezing, lagging or buffering. I am extremely pleased with his work and would not hesitate to recommend him! They offer all sorts of low-voltage wiring services, networking services, Home Theater set-up and more.
