I've been to Shade Tree several times for cuts and highlights. I go to Chuck Edwards and each time and I have been very happy with the results. Shade Tree has been a very pleasant experience. Nice ambiance and staff. The only reason I am giving 4 stars rather than 5 stars is because several times I have been, Chuck was still working with another client and I ended up waiting a bit longer than I was supposed to for the scheduled appointment. read more

I LOVE this place! I have been going to Kim with all of my hair needs for the last year. She is fast, very friendly, professional, and is a perfectionist when it comes to her work. She makes SURE you are happy with your hair before you leave. And I have never seen anyone leave here unhappy. :) Kim recently "fixed" my hair after I made horrible choices with my coloring for a year. I finally decided to ask her about coloring (on top of a cut) and she literally fixed it. My hair looks natural and healthy again after just a short hour with her. This is day three of my new hair cut and I love it! Kelly Lauren Vlass did an awesome job! I got exactly what I wanted - layers/dimension that don't require a lot of time/products for styling. I'm experimenting with all the different ways I can wear this hair. I've gotten lots of compliments, too! The salon is also very nice - a cute cottage in a "village" of cottages with all sorts of businesses. It's very quiet; you'd have no idea you were just blocks from downtown and Town Lake. I was in dire need of a cut and my stylist of the past few years was out of the state, so I made an appointment with Chuck. I was feeling like a bit of a traitor as well as somewhat nervous with a new stylist. Chuck put me immediately at ease as he asked me questions about my hair and my regular stylist (turns out they went to school together) and we discussed what I wanted. I couldn't have been happier with results. It looks fantastic even now and that was nearly two months ago. I had come to her with a Groupon for partial highlights, which was handled without issue, and proceeded to have the best hour and a half of my day! She was very pleasant to talk to, and her studio is just charming. She delivered beautiful, natural looking highlights, a quick bang trim, great hair advice and an all around pleasant experience. Sam is simply the best in Austin! She always greets you with a warm hello smile, you get a fantastic cut at a great value and at a centrally located salon with good parking ... throw in the killer scalp/neck rub and it's as good as it gets! I have been going to Kim at Shade Tree for about 5 years and she is the ABSOLUTE BEST! The cut and color always look fabulous, and the cut lasts for sooooo long without looking all scraggly (lol!) I honestly don't know how she does it! Almost as impressive as the cut & color is how affordable she is. Every other stylist I've ever been to is at LEAST twice as much, for service that's not even half as good. She totally ROCKS. her so much!!! read more

My experience was more like Lyndsay L than Laura --my hair is even more of a challenge in that it is not thick, but fine and frizzy / curly. Terry always sees something positive to work toward, taking the time to explain how it is possible despite my swimming or kayaking and being maybe too indifferent to good hair care. Four stars because I haven't yet challenged her range, but I'm sure she'd be great under all circumstances. Does not push products or services, waiting for me to ask. The private room is very relaxing and means we get the most out of our discussion without others' intrusion. read more

She colored my hair the best shade of blonde for me and took the time to get it just right and I'm so happy with the way it turned out. I started visiting Chuck almost a year ago. I have fairly long hair and have had several cuts and two color/highlights during that time. I've been extremely pleased with the way it turned out. I have a 14 year old daughter who has had two cuts with Chuck now. She absolutely loves him and his cuts! After her first visit she came home from school and was overwhelmed by how many compliments she received about her hair. You don't know us, but I gotta tell you - we are not easy to please!! Wow! My hair is-no WAS in terrible condition...and then I found Cat! First, you have to love her because she is so down to earth-the girl gave me a hug before I left as if the 3 hour shampoo/head massage/color/cut and style wasn't SWEET enough! I have had bad split ends, splitting hair in the MIDDLE of my hair, not at the ends because it is such bad shape and I have jumped stylist a couple of times simply because they would not be honest with me about the condition of my hair...Cat is not a product pusher, which I love also, I don't think she even sells products BUT she upon MY request made a list of the products she used on my hair so I could buy them-my hair is soft now-and she chose the perfect warm color for my face-my hazel eyes glow green again. I had been doing highlights which actually aged me. I went in with a plan, but a few minutes in her chair and I knew I could trust her ideas about the color and she got it PERFECT! I also bought the products she suggested and my hair continues to feel sooo SOFT. I will continue to have my hair SPOILED by CAT until one of us moves out of town! read more
