I am so grateful to the wonderful people here at Shades & Pier Optical. My daughter's regular glasses broke the evening before Thanksgiving, and then her spare set of glasses broke on the Sunday afternoon of the same holiday weekend. She really needs her glasses and she is not comfortable without them. I called them up and explained the situation to them and they stayed there late to help me and find a new frame that my daughter's lenses would fit into (the old frames were not salvageable). They didn't have the same frames, but they checked every children's frame they had to see if the lenses would fit. They did find one, and my 6 year old daughter loves them more than the original frames. The price was even super reasonable. read more

By far the nicest and best service I've received in Providence. I called to ask if they offered any glasses repair/resizing, and the woman on the phone was incredibly accommodating. I brought in two of my glasses (one that needed an extra nose piece and another that was too snug around the head/ears). They greeted me and welcomed me in and I cannot express enough how much I appreciated their kindness that day. While I waited, they gave me great advice on what to look for when purchasing my next pair of glasses and I never felt pressured to buy anything. I had a great experience at Shades and Pier Optical. On my way to the airport for a flight to Florida, I stopped in this shop. I was greeted by Tracy, the owner, when I walked in the door and she went to work id'ing a couple of options for my taste and budget. Within 10 minutes, after having viewed several options and without being pushed, I made my decision. During the process, Tracy gave me the main features of each pair I tried on. Shades RI saved me from certain disaster. En route to the Dominican Republic, fully checked through at TF Green and without a pair of shades packed, I just about pounced on the woman elegantly perched across from Gate 9 with oodles of shades on oodles of shelves. Ray-Bans are my go-to, and I was not disappointed. With nearly every shape, color and style to choose from, I was torn between two frames and this woman (who happens to be the owner and is as friendly, kind and helpful as it gets) have me 1) Her Honest Opinion and 2) plenty of space and time to make my own mind up. Zero pressure, zero BS. Ever since then, I've been a loyal customer. I know it's weird to say that about a shop in an airport, but I'm for real, people - if I'm in the mood for a new pair of shades I'll just wait until I'm at the airport to get them. Either that, or make the trip down to Narragansett to their flagship store and make the purchase there. In addition to my beloved Ray-Bans, they carry brands like Persol, Burberry, Prada, Oakley, Smith, Arnette, etc - truly something for everyone and at every price point. The selection and salesmanship are probably the best I've seen in RI, maybe anywhere. What a great place! First, they have an excellent selection of sunglasses!! But my review is about customer service. I was visiting from NC and the arm of my Serengeti sunglasses came off. All the screws I had were to big. I brought them into Shades and Tracey (I'm pretty sure it was the owner) fixed them for me. No charge!! No hesitation. Just good old fashioned customer service. Shopping in the Plaza I stopped by to browse the selection on polarized dark shades. Immediately I was greeted by the happy to help person checking someone out and was told that she would be momentarily over to help me. The happy staff member ended up being a most helpful & friendly owner! I told her that I was looking for the darkest polarized shades and my price range right away she went to work selecting at least 10 or more shades for me to try on. While trying on she allowed me to take a step outside of the store in the middle of a sunny late afternoon to test out the darkness. Smart as this really helped me, I dwindled down the selection by style, comfort & with each pair I stepped outside comparing the level of darkness. The store is laid out nicely making it easy to browse the wide selection of sport to fashion styles of shades. Anyone could find a pair of shades here! I don't have a favorite brand, I own and have owned shades from Ray-Bans to Coach and it was with ease to choose a pair that fit me perfectly! If I could give no stars I would... it has been 3 weeks since I stepped foot in this store and my experience still bothers me. I came in looking for a very specific style of sunglasses. A women whom I presume was the owner helps me locate the style. When I decide I didn't like how they look on my face, she started frantically trying to show me other options. I knew what I was looking for so I kept saying no to her other options. She then flipped... she went into this tangent about how people need to keep an open mind and how she knows what looks best on people, it then got weird and she started talking about how women need to not have checklists, that's why they can't find a man (my fiancé was with me, with his mouth in the floor)... she continued with her tangent for at least a minute even insulting me saying the glasses were too high fashion for me. She then stormed out after tantrum. We all, including her employees were left there in shock... one girl tried to switch the topic quick and showed me a pair of glasses. I actually really liked them. But I definitely didn't buy them there... actually went to sunglass hut and spent $50 less. I highly recommend taking your business else where unless you want to get scolded and insulted if you don't like their selection. read more

Not much of a review guy but felt it necessary this time to write about the wonderful customer service I received at Shades in Narragansett, RI. By nature, I'm a really indecisive guy and always second guessing my purchases. Bought a pair of sunglasses while on a weekend getaway kind of on a whim and of course when I got home felt they didn't fit correctly and probably would have never worn them again. I called the owner Tracey and after explaining the situation, no questions asked she had no issues with having me come back in to exchange them for something better I liked, even though I was well over the exchange policy period. She was thoughtful, patient and helpful with finding the right glasses for me and never once made me feel like a nuisance,(even though I was). It's over a 2 hour drive and although there are plenty of other places much closer, I will never go anywhere else when purchasing QUALITY sunglasses for my family and I. I can't recommend them enough, not to mention they have one of the best selection of SHADES in NE including my favorite brand of Serengetis which almost no one carriers any longer. It's a great shop in a beautiful place well worth the drive to visit. read more
