    My happy place!
    Sara D.

I highly recommend this stable to all level riders. They take great care in knowing your ability and cater to you. You always feel safe and know that there are two staff on each ride. I rode last week and I was the only one which was amazing. With two staff. You will not be disappointed. Can't wait to go back again.

My son and I went for a morning ride at Shadow Glen for the first time. Donny and Taylor were great. They were patient and informative. I would definitely recommend this place for an introduction to riding.

Such a fun relaxing trail ride with my daughter today for her Bday. We loved our friendly horses Chowder and Lefty. They are very organized at Shadow Glen. We met our "wrangler" Grace who gave us a refresher on the do's and don'ts while riding before starting. She gave very clear instructions and tips along the way as we rode. Anyone new to riding would have a great experience if they follow the instructions. Not our first time riding, but if you don't ride regularly it's still good to have a refresher talk. Grace also had some interesting historical notes about the landscape. Lots of beautiful wild flowers and butterflies made for a fun picturesque ride. We only did the hour ride today, and on a weekday the group ride was just the two of us which was nice. Beautiful scenery, nice staff and friendly horses.

I have come here many times since I was a little girl, so I was very excited to share a trail ride experience here with my daughter on Mother's Day! She is 11 years old, and this was her very first time ever being on a horse. The entire staff is SO lovely, and they were incredibly attentive and caring when my daughter expressed feeling nervous in the beginning. They made her feel so comfortable that she was fully able to relax and truly enjoy the ride. We had such a beautiful Mother's Day at Shadow Glen. In fact, my daughter loved it so much that she's already ready to do the 2-hour trail ride next, and I'll definitely be signing her up for lessons here! Shadow Glen truly is a wonderful place filled with great people and beautiful horses. Thank you for allowing me to share my deep love for horses with my daughter and helping create such a special memory for us both!

We have 2 preteens wanting to try horse back riding and this place was beyond perfect for beginners. We appreciate everyone that explained everything before the ride, they were patient and understanding. We will definitely return and recommend with friends and family. Waiting area had the cutest animals to pet and interact with. Thank you!

This was my first time horseback riding and me and my boyfriend had such a fun great experience. We did the one hour long trail ride and it was perfect. They took pictures of us at the end and one of my now favorite memories.

10/10 recommend coming here if you're planning too. We made reservations for our anniversary online and had a wonderful time. We scheduled a ride during the morning, there was about 6 of us and 2 employees with us the entire ride which lasted an hour. The horses are very well trained. I had Lefty and my boyfriend had Ace. There are so many other animals there and they offer classes too if you like to train with horses and learn how to ride them properly. Very nice service, we will def be coming back.

They took care to pair riders with appropriate mounts,, even taking in consideration the order of the horses for compatibility.

The Shadow Glen ride was worth the drive from Vacaville. The trail lead was competent and safety conscious, and the trail guides were interactive and friendly. We had someone in the group go down with heat exhaustion (stay hydrated!). It was a warm day and the trail guides had intentionally brought extra water and gatorade, but the girl wasn't acclimated to the heat. They reacted decisively and competently. Definitely family friendly and a beautiful little ranch.

Two weeks ago, I went to Shadow Glen Family Stables during the Nature class. I saw different kinds of domesticated animals especially for horses. Me, Nick, and his class see they're taking care of the horses in the stables because horses are really domesticated. Shadow Glen is a horseback riding place in Fair Oaks.

Trainer Recommendation: Tommie As someone who IMMEDIATELY sticks out like a sore thumb in any space I initially occupy (being a tall & decorative Black, Queer-Equestrian) I honestly can't say enough great things about my horse trainer, Tommie, at Shadow Glen Stables in Sacramento! Tommie is incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and truly makes every lesson feel personalized. She takes the time to understand both rider and horse, creating a supportive and encouraging environment. Her passion for what she does shines through, and it's made my riding experience not only educational but genuinely enjoyable. Highly recommend her if you're looking for someone who truly cares and brings out the best in you and your horse. I returned to riding after a long hiatus and have been back consistently for lessons ever since my first Trail-Ride experience last summer/fall (2024)

After 8 years, I'm back in the saddle!

After an 8 year break due to competing commitments, I finally made it back to my favorite stable in the Sacramento area... Shadow Glen. What a joy! The owner and riding management are still in place doing a wonderful job. I booked a full 2-hour ride on a beautiful late Winter Friday moving. The wild grass was brilliant green, the trees were in bloom and the birds, squirmed, and other wildlife were out in numbers. The land adjacent to the American River/ Lake Natoma is so picturesque! My saddle was on a charming chestnut-red and well mannered horse that rode so smooth and sure footed it was almost gliding. My Wrangler was knowledgeable, safety oriented, sweet, and informative. She also was considerate and allowed for the quiet enjoyment of the ride. I can't say enough good things about Shadow Glen Stables. I'll be booking a riding lesson or two just to refresh my skills and build confidence and then be back for more riding a Spring and Summer arrive.

Many thanks to Shadow Glen Family Stables and the fun and helpful staff for providing a fun experience for our grandkids. We decided to take the grandkids out for one last hurrah before school starts up. The staff were helpful and patient, providing riding guidance when needed. We stayed on a trail (looks like there are several trails) and enjoyed the surroundings. Overall, a great first-time experience for the kids. Later, they asked when we could return. I highly recommend Shadow Glen Family Stables.

The teachers here are amazing! My middle schooler even had a teacher from his old public school, which was super helpful since he planed to go back to public high school later. This kept him on track (and even ahead) with what he needed to know. Something that I love is that the kids are outside ALL THE TIME! They have class outside, eat lunch outside, and do pretty much everything outside unless the weather is really bad. In summer, they sit under shady trees with nice breezes. In winter, they bundle up with jackets and blankets near space heaters. It reminds me of how European kids spend way more time outdoors instead of being stuck inside all day. My kids have learned tons and made great friends here. If you've read the book "Wild and Free," this school follows that idea perfectly. Kids learn, play, and grow at their own speed. Even if your kids go to regular school, Wild Roots has awesome summer camps that cost less than a babysitter! The kids learn cool stuff while having fun outside. This place really is surprisingly effective at building kids' confidence and physical endurance…read more It's intense exercise but the kids LOVE it and are obviously having a blast. Of every class or sport my kid has ever done, this has been his absolute favorite (It's been one of my favorite activities he's done, as well!). The coaches are super positive and keep it high energy. It's only 45 minute classes (I wish they were an hour) but they don't waste any of the time. Even during their water breaks they have an activity or video on the screen that teaches confidence building skills. The coaches are very friendly and encouraging to parents , as well. My only complaint is that there often isn't enough instruction on proper form. Kids are frequently using bad form. There are only 2 instructors for the class so they can't help every kid for every activity, but there needs to be more live assistance on proper form. (I will say that I provided this feedback via a survey and the following week the coaches made a noticeable effort to help my kid with form, so they are very receptive to feedback, which is very rare these days). Every single coach there acts like they love their job. I'd think they'd have to have a passion for working with kids in order to do this job, but nonetheless, I love their business model attitude. (I was actually very hesitant to sign up as I had seen them at various festivals, and it seemed like a money grab. But after attending a single trial class, my kid was hooked, and it was evident that their entire business model revolves around building confidence in kids). I can't recommend them enough!

They offer several classes based on age. One of the limitations they have is gymnastics. Boys can join gymnastics if they are under four (? We currently have our daughter enrolled in tag, and most of the teachers are pretty good. It gets a bit tricky when you have other kids in the same class who are disruptive and the teacher doesn't do much to navigate to the class back. If! You are a parent that likes to come early before the class, it might be a bit tricky getting in since the other classes are just getting out. With that, the best area to park is in the back. There's even a back door there you can enter through. If you miss a class or are planning to miss a class, you just have to make sure to notify them via website two hours prior to the class so that you can get a make up for the class for next time, so make sure you grab all of the class schedules located in the check-in desk on the wall because you can choose any make up class to try! Overall, it's a good all in one place to try.

You're never too old for a craft party!…read more I realized that as I watched Lyndi spend an hour setting up the decorations and supplies for my daughter's Boho Crafts 13th birthday party this past July. She brought in beautiful tapestries and coverings for the sofas, scarves for the tables, vases and bowls and tassels and all sorts of bohemian pretties to dress up my home (I didn't want her to take anything back with her when she left!) The care she took in setting the scene really showed, and my daughter and her friends were completely in her thrall during the 2.5 hours she spent with them, walking them through two crafts: dream catcher and painted rocks. When the girls first arrived, they busied themselves with putting on some temporary gold tattoos, and then Lyndi gathered them around a circle tapestry where she led them through a calming ritual, and a focus on why they were there, to celebrate my daughter's birthday. They took turns talking about my daughter, being intentional on their friendship with her. It was so touching to hear them say sweet things about her (this mom may have shed a little tear.) They then had fun ripping fabric and choosing beads and feathers to make their dream catchers, and then selecting designs and paints for their rocks. She brings so many supplies with her, and is so easy to learn from...she has a calm and settled personality which is completely engaging. The time flew by, and I didn't have to do a thing! I spent the time with a couple moms who had stayed, and we ate and chatted our way through the time, completely relaxed. Lyndi puts together craft parties for all ages, so I am definitely going to set something up for my girlfriends soon!
