I was really surprised because I'm normally a moscato girl, but their sweet wines were actually too sweet for me. I didn't take many photos. I probably should have. I went with a group of women for a wine tasting through new Buffalo Michigan. This was the cutest winery I had ever seen. The theme is obviously ballerina with labels made by a local artist. There are prints for sale, which were beautiful they had crystals essential roll-on oils, great selection of candles and wines. The service was great. I met one of the owners. I cannot recall her name, but she had dirty blonde hair. We had a great time. There is also a table within the window of the winery, and there are very comfy, black chairs, and other seating options as well in the back wines are moderately priced and the tasting was $17 for six. read more

She opened up anything and everything she had on hand, including some that haven't even hit the shop yet, and just had us feeling so warm and cozy hanging out with her! Walked in with a group of 6... small town, we haven't had the best service, going to multiple eateries, wineries, breweries just to scoop out the town. When we jumped out of the car, we had 0 plans for another winery, but it seemed very easy and cute. Great decor! Tommy, wearing his Hangover hoodie, had a great attitude, described the wines, indulged us with our silliness and never skipped a beat. They serve a divine little chocolate to compliment the wines and it truly does. Purchased a bottle for home, and the wine was good, not my favorite, but the experience with Tommy made the fun. My friend & I spent the day in St. Joe recently and stopped at Lazy Ballerina before heading back home. The last time I was here was in their original small location. The new location is huge with a long bar and lots of seating throughout. Our server was very nice and explained all the wines we selected. I found a couple I liked and bought these to enjoy later. While this isn't my favorite in the areas they do make some good bottles. Their ciders are some of the best drinks on the menu. They also offer events frequently throughout the year. Visited St. Joe's beach for the first time with a group of six from Ohio, and made sure we stopped by the Lazy Ballerina for a tasting. It was a blast! Gina was our hostess, and she was outstanding! We all tasted 5 wines of our choice from a huge selection. The Reds were very good, and my wife loved the whites. We all got a fruit wine slushie, and most got a second! So refreshing for the warmer days! The staff there were all wonderful, and the experience was a true highlight of our visit. We left with 11 bottles of wine and big smiles on our faces! I have to say, we were a bit disappointed with Lazy Ballerina. My sister and I had gone on a Yelp mission mapping out the wineries we'd like to visit, and so we had great hopes because of the branding. While the wines were ok, the people who were serving the wine weren't overly friendly and didn't really explain or go over the wines like you encounter at most wineries. It was more here you go, next. It was also super awkward for me as they spent quite a while with my ID and I was there with my younger sibling and both my parents and I'm about to be 30.....just saying. Went to the Lazy Ballerina with a big bunch of friends... what a GREAT TIME!! The staff were both informative and entertaining! Time flew by as we were all tasting wines, learning about the wine making process and laughing so hard as the staff was so nice and fun! My mom & I were looking to break up a road trip and so glad my friend told me about Lazy Ballerina. Such a cute little wine stop in beautiful St. Joes. Since it is a small tasting room there was a small wait but it went by quick since there are so many cute things to look at & buy. Our server (whose name I unfortunately forgot) was very friendly and did great job explaining each wine that we tried; would not have realized she was still in training if she didn't say anything. The rest of the staff was also friendly & helpful as well. They also have a good variety of wines at reasonable prices. We loved most of the wines we tried and ended up taking advantage of the 6 bottle special. I come here on occasion with my best friend. Lots of delicious wines to choose from and a very unique interior. Very cute and right now, the chairs are even decorated with tutu frills. I love the Sweet Nita, named after their grandmother, and the Pink Tutu. While there are a lot of wineries around here (and trying them all is suggested) this is the one I try over and over. I did a wine tasting here and other places to decide which was my favorite. Their wine tastings are very fun and they talk with you about your likes to help best pair you with an amazing wine. read more

We went to Lazy Ballerina as part of a bachelorette weekend in Michigan. This was a great winery to start with! We did a tasting and everyone really enjoyed the experience. While Michigan is typically more known for sweet wines - Lazy Ballerina had a very nice variety in wine styles. Do make sure to check your locations we thought we were headed for the tasting room with the adorable tutus on the chairs but ended up at their secondary tasting room. This place is adorbs! Seriously.... $8 for a wine tasting and you get to keep the glass, oh and you get a bonus truffle with your tasting! I visited this winery with my sister a few weeks ago...I'd say the wines are average, although I bought a decent red which pairs well with pasta & pizza. On Fridays they have a great deal on wine flights - since it was our first visit, we did a tasting instead. The man who waited on us let us try a few additional ones after we chose our 5, so that was a nice addition to our visit. They have lots of cute items to purchase in here as well - candles, glasses, wine stoppers, shirts, etc. If you're wandering around downtown St. Joseph, definitely pay a visit here! read more

Came here with friends for a wine tasting. It was definitely not what I expected but it was a nice, small shop. The bar was fairly large and had plenty of space for all of us to sample the wines. I personally didn't love a lot of the wines, but there weren't any that I thought were horrible. I think the sampling deal is amazing because you pay about $9 to sample 5 wines and get a small chocolate truffle and you get to keep the glasses as a souvenir. I was impressed with that and the truffle was delicious. I wish they had small snacks available to purchase, but I understand such a small establishment might be hard to do that without a kitchen and whatnot. During a fall Michigan wine tour we enjoyed our stop at Lazy Ballerina. The storefront tasting room was cute & cozy. The color scheme & decor are definitely dance inspired. Although a bit girly, the tasting room is a great backdrop for your next vino adventure. Our host was super fun and made sure we all found the perfect wine to suit taste preferences. Our group had an absolute horrendous experience with the Lazy Ballerina today. Gina the "manager" is one of the most unprofessional people I have ever encountered. While ordering, due to the size of our group one of the workers notified Gina that we were a larger group, she was quick to scoff and sarcastically say "Well they can all take everything to go". I have never felt more unwelcome in an establishment. Several of us made purchases but others left due to the managers uncouth behavior. Since Gina took the opportunity to name drop her boss Mallory, I hope that Mallory sees this post and offers some useful customer service advice to Gina. The Lazy Ballerina was the last stop on our girls weekend getaway. We definitely saved the best for last, it was the perfect place to end our wine tasting trip. We were the first customers on a Sunday, and were greeted by Tommy, (I believe that was his name) and a very pink cute interior. Tommy was super nice, we chatted while we were doing our wine tasting. My favorite wine was one I hadn't picked, but Tommy had suggested I try & poured me an extra tasting. So glad I took his suggestion, because it was amazing! It was the Single & Ready To Mingle sangria, which I obviously bought a bottle of. To end our experience, he took a photo of my gf & I outside of the winery. Little storefront winery with tables and chairs. Wine tasting $9 but that includes five tastings, plus you get to keep the Lazy Ballerina wine glass and get a little truffle in a gold box. The young woman waiting on me at first was very friendly and pleasant and described the tasting in a basic way. Then a young man came over and guided me much more thoroughly through the tastings, telling me about the different wines, what they tasted like, what the finish was, the sugar content, what they went well with. I truly appreciated all that information and it helped guide me not only on the tastings, but which bottles I wanted to purchase and take home. From what I've read on the other reviews, it's too bad ALL the employees don't take the time and attention to do this. read more

Great wine tasting place and it is right next door to wine pine so it's convenient to stop into both. The lady who was helping us was really nice. The spicy feta dip was really good, would have liked the pita bread warm though. The wines were amazing. Loved the peach white wine, As well as the other fruit wines. Tasting came with a truffle which pears really well with the blueberry wine. The rose was also very very good. And u get a free wine glass souvenir as well!! Walking in, we were immediately greeted by Lauren (one of the owners), who got us on the path of our wine tasting. I enjoyed all of the pours, some better than others but there was not one bad wine in the house. While enjoying my wine & snapping pictures... I noticed some really cute things available for sale. My pick was a stemless wine glass that reads "wine flies when you're having fun" . . . How true is that?! Lauren was knowledgeable & so very friendly . . She educated us & explained that Lazy Ballerina was a name of a trellis that a wine grapevine is grown on. So not only did I enjoy my delicious wine, I learned something too.... Visited downtown St Joseph and decided to stop in here for some wine. As soon as we entered, we were told they offered glasses of wine, wine flights, and tastings but they had a lot of larger groups of people coming in throughout the day so they could only do a tasting for us. Ok then? We did one tasting, which consisted of five ONE OUNCE samples, a glass, and a truffle. Honestly, the wine was pretty good, but I'd rather them keep the glass and truffle and give me more of a sample to drink. Overall, it just felt stingy. The bartender also didn't go into any details whatsoever about their wines, so the entire experience lasted about 5 minutes. read more

This is worth a visit! Lazy Ballerina Winery is founded and owned by 2 women who are cousins, and they have definitely put a fun feminine touch on the brand. I loved sitting on a stool wearing a tutu (the stool was wearing the tutu, not me). $8 for wine tasting (choice of 5) + your tasting stemless wine glass. One of the wines I tasted just tasted off for some reason, so I mentioned it to the bartender. She opened a new bottle of that wine for me to try, and there was definitely a difference! So if a wine tastes off, it may be old - ask when the bottle was opened! read more

This is a cute tasting room with nice table seating - not common in most of the tasting rooms in the area. Their tasting is $6 for five pours and a chocolate truffle and they have options to purchase wines by the glass and of course, bottles as well. The pours were very conservative but I didn't mind because there wasn't a wine in the bunch that I really wanted to drink more of. They were all very thin and uninteresting - and ranged from tasteless whites with no personality to sickeningly sweet reds that reminded me of old rotting fruit. I don't expect "Napa-like" quality in Southwest Michigan wines but we have enjoyed some that are drinkable - not here. Another unusual characteristic of this tasting room - they have food. That's a nice touch and will likely be more of a draw than the wines. We didn't eat during this visit but they have a small menu consisting of mostly wraps and salads. We saw a few wraps come out of the kitchen while we were there and they looked large. If you're in St. Joe's for a day of shopping and sightseeing - you'll probably stop in for a taste and maybe lunch. I'm not sure they have enough going for them to bring many people back for a repeat visit. read more

This was the first stop on our Bachelorette wine tour, as suggested by the tour company we used. The tasting room is nestled into a downtown area, so it wasn't a location we expected but the experience overall was awesome. Our server was amazing. He was super informative about all the different varieties and was quick to offer suggestions once he learned what each person liked. He even opened a couple of the new wines for us to try. The wines were very good. We had a full spectrum from super sweet to super dry drinkers, and everyone found something they enjoyed. The Cranberry was something different, and ended up being my favorite. The labels were the only thing we found to lack pizzazz. The names and varieties are so unique, then they came bottled with a boring label with no differentiation from each other. Not a huge deal, I realize, but an opportunity for improvement. A wine tasting room with food! This is a great place to stop for a tasting or a glass of wine and a snack. Love the veggie wrap with spicy feta sauce. And the chocolate truffle with your flight. The atmosphere is whimsical and really comfortable. I love dry wines, like the White and Black swans, but the semi drys are really good too - especially the Graceful Resistance.
