fraudulently claiming a month of rent we didn't live there after our lease ended. we left on good terms when we were supposed to. now they're claiming extravagant charges against us. we spent the weekend cleaning and we're out on the agreed upon time per our lease and left it in good clean condition. as in keeping with greedy managers, they're trying to charge as much as possible to see if we'll fold to not deal with the headache. avoid them if you can because this is predatory and we will be fighting our case as we have vast evidence against them, and I'm sure they have nothing against us but they're trying anyways. Honestly, you can save more money and go somewhere else. You paid so much for no pool, no park, a small gym that was closed the entire time I lived there and a tennis court with no net. The main reason I gave such a low review is because when it came time to renewing our lease, they failed to inform us that our rent was being raised another $100.. this was 2 weeks before our lease was up. They weren't going to even let us know until it came down to us calling and asking, we even had to wait a few extra days to even know they were raising it. So instead we moved out and bought a house so much cheaper. The apartments itself wasn't bad, it was a nice size and they kept the outside cleaned up. But if you're wanting to pay an arm and a leg for nothing, then this is the perfect place. read more

I lived here for a little over two years and Shady Lake has been a great experience. The only reason I am leaving is because I purchased a house. I cannot say enough good things about the office staff. Any time I had an issue (which was very rarely due to the exceptional care that is taken by the outstanding maintenance staff) they were more than professional and courteous. Any time work needed to be done on/around the building or in the apartment, ample notice was given. The maintenance staff responded quickly and professionally. One time they were at my apartment within 5 minutes of me calling the office. Its hard to find places that offer that type of exceptional service. You can tell from the moment you turn into the property that Shady Lake is a GREAT place to live. Not once did I ever not feel safe living here. The complex is well lit. The landscaping and snow removal were top notch. More often than not, the roads in the apartment complex were cleaner than the main roads that you travel on. Location: You cannot beat the location. The Turnpike is roughly 5-7 minutes away. Downtown Kent is 10-15 minutes away. Akron is about 35 or so minutes away. The geographic location makes Shady Lake a great place to reside for professionals and students alike. The ease of access to main roads is phenomenal. You cant get a better location. Dining and Shopping: Shady Lake is extremely close to an abundance of dining and shopping, some of which is even located at the entrance of the complex. Grocery and retail stores are all within a 5-7 minute drive. Aurora Farms outlets are about 15 minutes away. 14 is something that takes a little getting used to, however, it is not that bad. My apartment building was quiet and I did not hear the road noise. If you are looking for a great, safe community, look no further than Shady Lake. The office staff along with the property itself will make you feel right at home! read more

I have been at Shady Lake for 16 years. They now allow pets. They have a fitness center. There is a nice tennis court and a Pavillion by it. It's a pretty quiet place to live. read more

The staff and management are condescending and ignorant. If you can not deal with other races you're in the wrong profession, and I hope you seek employment elsewhere. No one has the energy or time to deal with the childish unnecessary notes and eviction notices that they pass out like candy (the rent couldn't of been too late because I stayed in this hell hole for two years just to piss them off and was never legally or legitimately forced out LOL). The price is ridiculous considering you get NO AMENITIES and they are just now in the process of fixing up that basic workout room. There are lots of other stuck up overrated and overpriced places to live in Streetsboro so take my advice and stay away from this one. Go up the street to PP and pay the say price, maybe a little less and you get a swimming pool. read more

This place is a joke and does not abide by the lease agreement. After a year plus of high rent and continually raised rent. I always had my rent in a week in advance, they don't get anything done in a timely manner. Look anywhere else, you'll be very disappointed by this place. If I could review them a 0/5 I would!! I've lived here for a year, my sister on a separate occasion lived here 2 years and many of my friends have as well and nothing good has come of this place ... if you have pets THEY HAVE TO FINE YOU FOR NEW CARPET WHICH IS $1,400 when you move out. They give you 7 days to pay that $1,400 once you leave on top of the month rent. That's $ 2,400.. They have been doing construction with a jackhammer at 7am outside my window. The new management is rude, and does not help with anything they just say to call corporate which of course nobody answers or calls you back. They lost a check once and made me pay the $25 fee and then double fees daily while I was out of state and nobody even called to inform me it was lost for a week. They charge you $950 then add extra bills and rent after your first year is up. This place is such a awful rip off to you and your money. I would NEVER EVER EVER live here. They want $800 deposits for two cats . They always call to complain about something and will never work with you for anything. As a person who is super simple and easy going this place has been hell and is the worst place I've ever lived !!!! DONT MOVE HERE SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR CREDIT FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!! read more

This place is trash. I have lived in 5 different apartments before this one and I have never been charged such random fees as this place. The leasing office is full of rude people that have poor communication. When we moved out we were told by the leasing office we are all set and good to go and would be getting our security deposits back. A few weeks later we received a bill in the mail for over $1,000 for new carpet and damages to the wall. We contacted the corporate office and they also said the leasing office should have talked us through the proper steps of how move out would look like. You will be charged for new carpet (1,000) no matter what if you had a pet. On top of the $200 fee and $30 a month per pet each month. The money from the monthly fees won't go towards the new carpet at the end of your move out it's just money they pocket from you. This place is such trash I would never recommend it. Also there was problems at the complex of fruit flys coming up from the drains and there was once a cockroach that we saw on our kitchen floor and we are very clean people. Shady lake apartment was the worse experience I've ever had renting an apartment. Looking back I should have taken the other bad reviews more seriously and found another place to live. After I signed the lease, some neighbors moved in above me soon after I moved in. You can forget about having any peace and quiet living here in my experience. After hearing the stomping, the constant creaking of the floor, and people screaming through what I imagine to be paper thin walls, and floors I went to the office to let them know of the situation. I felt they did next to very little for me. I had to talk to my neighbors about the noise. That somewhat worked for about a month or two. I complained a few months later to the office just to have a similar experience with them about the noise. I again had to let my neighbors know about the noise concern. I got the feeling they just really didn't care about how noisy my neighbors were being, or how it was affecting me. I think a good apartment complex would at least contact the other neighbor to let them know. After six months I couldn't take waking up to, trying to fall asleep to, or eating dinner to the sounds of creaking floors, toilets running, stomping, screaming, and people running up and down the top deck which creates a booming effect inside what was my apartment. I decided that moving out and having to pay double rent for the last half of the lease was worth some peace and quiet. To me it was that bad. I write this review to share my experience and inform people about what I consider a mistake. In my opinion you should steer clear of shady lake apartments, and NOT give any of your hard earned money to this apartment complex. read more
