I moved to Texas from Florida few months ago and needed to switch to a Texas LTC from my Florida…read moreConcealed Weapons Permit that was expiring soon. While filling out the required paperwork for the LTC, I found out you could take classroom portion online! There were quite a few options available, so I looked for a local Austin (well, Leander) based business to support. I signed up for the LTC Austin online course to keep myself busy during the current Stay-at-Home order. The courses were thorough and easy to navigate. I really appreciated being able to do it on my own time, rather than sitting in a classroom for 5 hours like I had to do in Florida. It was a great refresher for a lot of basics and coming from another state, I found the coverage of Texas specific laws incredibly valuable, having seen many of the signs posted around town already. They have a partnership with Shady Oaks Gun Range in Cedar Park that I plan on scheduling my LTC Proficiency Demonstration with as soon as they are able to start booking them again.

I just finished up an LTC class, and had a great time. The instructor, Joel did an awesome job. He…read morekept the class interesting, and fostered an ask questions environment from our class. Moving on to the shooting portion of the class, Joel also did a great job there too. He kept the shooting line safe. Plus his range commands were clear and concise. Awesome job!

Excellent coaches. I like the drill format (for ex. Drill one - is fundamental, you'll remember…read morethat when one is under pressure). The staff are highly experienced, competent, and most importantly - patient. I did one that was for couples and it brought us a lot closer. I was pleasantly surprised that they focused on building connection... it was more. Pete made us reflect on how we care for each other, etc. not just "cover and move", and this is how to grapple and break limbs - although mat time was excellent. They know how to make folks (like my date) who aren't comfortable right away with the mats to get there. It's suffocating, growing up wrestling I forget most aren't comfortable there. Anyway, highly recommend and we need to be going at least twice/yr. My go-to gym is Gracie Barra north so it was awesome switching it up. Thanks fellas

My first comment is the training is too expensive. I attended protector 1 training course which I…read morethought was for beginners and novices. The combative training is entirely too intense. There were a few in my class who sustained injuries. For myself, I received an injury to my left hand and injuries to my right hip and both shoulders. The protector one and it's description on the website is extremely deceptive. This course is for intermediate or advanced students who are versed in ground, fighting, jujutsu, or wrestling. I will never attend another Sheepdog Response school. I don't attend training to get injured.

Firstly, don't let yourself be deterred by all the poor reviews. I've read through lots of them and…read morethe majority are people who BROKE THE RULES and didn't like getting yelled at. Tough! This isn't a spa, it's a gun range where someone mishandling a firearm could mean the difference between life and death. Follow the very simple rules and you don't have to worry about the range master. I also saw comments on racism. I'm a 39yr old Latino and the staff has always been nothing but respectful to me, so please pay no attention to the sensitive snowflakes on here calling them racist. The Range: The range costs $25 per person, and no spectators are allowed. meaning that everyone has to undergo the orientation regardless if they're shooting or not. Newcomers will need to watch a 5-minute orientation video on the range rules before they are given their own lifetime range card. ATM is on site. The range has a split pistol and rifle range, with separate areas for shotguns and skeet shooting. Pistol ranges are between 7yds and 25yds (I think) and Rifle ranges are 50yds up to 300yds. All the bays are covered, benches have sandbags, and there is extra seating. Cease-fire occurs ever 20min. My Review: I've been coming here for years now. This has been the best 300yd range that is relatively near my home where I can sit down, smoke a cigar while I work on my load testing. The range does have a rule against FMJ ammo which is strange hence the 4-stars instead of 5. So make sure you bring soft-point ammo. They will check your mags during cease fires so don't try and be sneaky. They have ammo for sale but like most other ranges, you will be paying more. This place is in the sticks, just passed Cedar Park, so I'd make sure to bring everything you need before getting there. There is a gas station nearby where you can pick up some things if you need to. For those shooting 200-300 yds, they have a golf cart on site that you can use to drive to your target. Overall, this place is great if you can follow instructions and don't mind the heat in the summer.

Our experience with Sterling Classical School has been incredibly disappointing and, honestly,…read moreexhausting, for both students and parents. The part-time structure creates a significant mental strain on students. They are expected to manage a heavy academic load largely on their own, with minimal guidance or support. If your child cannot independently master material--and if you, as a parent, are not prepared to essentially take on the role of a part-time teacher, this is not the right environment. Communication is one of the biggest failures. Multiple follow-ups with teachers and even the dean, Ms. Taggert, often go unanswered. There is little accountability, and concerns frequently go ignored unless escalated to a larger group. For example, an entire class was failing a course this year, and it wasn't addressed until multiple parents brought it forward collectively, and even then, the administration seemed completely unaware. Student life is practically nonexistent. The workload leaves little to no room for social interaction or participation in outside activities, including sports. It's an isolating experience that can take a toll on a student's well-being. There is also a noticeable lack of stability within the school. Teacher turnover appears high, likely due to low pay, and student retention is equally poor. That alone should raise concerns. Another issue that stood out during our time there and even during tours is the lack of attention to basic standards. Hygiene concerns among students go unaddressed, and classroom environments can be unpleasant, which is surprising and concerning for any school setting. Finally, a serious warning: do not pay upfront. Families are locked into tuition with no refunds, and there have been issues with transcripts being withheld, adding unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation. There were many red flags that, in hindsight, we wish we had taken more seriously. If sharing this helps even one family avoid the same experience, it's worth it.

Our family paid Sterling Classical School $13,000 in advance for our child's 2025-2026 tuition…read moreusing funds from our 529 savings plan. Due to an unexpected period of unemployment, we had to withdraw months before the school year began. Despite our financial hardship and ample notice, the school refused to return even a portion of the money -- citing a no-refund policy buried in their paperwork. We reached out multiple times, including through an attorney, and were met with a dismissive response. The school even said our child could re-enroll but still refused to return any funds, even though no services were provided. It's deeply disappointing that a Christian school would choose policy over fairness and compassion. I share this so other families can be aware of how Sterling handles situations of hardship and withdrawal.
