Located in the Montgomery Mall, I normally don't get roped-in to a store from a free sample, but Rumi's delicious free samples got my businesses. I tried their turmeric ginger tea, and within minutes, the heartburn that had been bothering me was feeling relieved. The persian rose tea was delicious as well; I ended up buying both. The owners are the nicest folks in the world and they have such a wide and extensive variety of teas and spices that you're sure to find something you'll love. There is a huge selection of teas and spices- basically anything you could hope to find plus some. I came here to get vanilla beans to make my own vanilla extract, and I was impressed with the quality for the price. The owner is an amiable and knowledgeable person willing to spend time explaining what the teas and spices can be used for. He spent extensive time helping us choose which teas to make a personalized blend! I also love the aesthetics of the shop- earthy and simple but very welcoming. What a gem tucked in Montgomery mall! Rumi is a family owned business operated by a sweet couple. They are so knowledgable about different kinds of tea and the herbal properties of each tea. Compared to popular tea stores such as Teavana, they really know their products and put their heart and soul into each blend. I like the authenticity their store has compared to Teavana because most of the staff at Teavana does not know more than "how long to steep the tea for." In addition to boasting a large variety of different tea blends, Rumi also offers spices and other cooking supplements. Lastly, you get a a complementary tin can for every four ounces of tea you buy! This is now my go to tea store. Teavana and the other tea stores use artificial flavorings which are not good. Got the toasted mate today and very yummy. Store is so cute and has a hipster feel to it and a lot less expensive then name brand stores. Try this place out!!! Nicest place in this mall. Fantastic spices as well as excellent drinks. Attractive interior. Get a drink to bring to the movies. It is a great place to pick up gifts. This is my second trip to Rumi. The first time we needed some specialty spices and picked up their smoked paprika and Mexican oregano. My husband and I cook a LOT of Mexican dishes and the Mexican oregano is a must. It is difficult to find, so we were so excited to know Rumi carries it. It makes all the difference in the dishes. While there, we picked up two ounces of the Peach/Apricot tea on a whim. The second time we went back, we went specifically for the tea. This time we purchased Cream Earl Grey and more Peach/Apricot. I like store bought Earl Grey, but the owner insisted we try his Cream Earl Grey. We went home and made it right away. It is the BEST tea I've ever had. I'm not a tea snob. I'm think store bought tastes good, but now I'm ruined for store bought. This Earl Grey is FANTASTIC. I can't recommend it enough!! We made it with a bit of honey. My 2 and 4 year old loved it once it cooled off a bit and each drank their own cup. While there we picked up the Pink salt (which I've bought before and is very well priced at RUMI), and the omelette spice mix. The omelette spice mix is good and we had omelettes with our tea for dinner. Make this a regular stop - especially if you like tea. read more
