Eric took a lot of time discussing my deck plans. He went into detail on materials, how the deck…read morewould be built and many other details. He sounded very knowledgeable so we signed a contract for our deck. His schedule got delayed multiple times, but about a month late he showed up and started working on the deck. Immediately we started running into issues. The ledger board was not secured to the house properly. A second ledger board was lag bolted onto our sunroom instead of being properly supported. He started burying the posts instead of pouring foundations like was in the contract. The rim beam that was supporting a lot of weight was not doubled up or supported properly. All of these issues were discussed during the planning stage, and many of them were even contradicting the contract that I signed. Worst of all was a post that was installed on top of our septic tank. I discussed the tank multiple times with Eric to make sure we wouldn't have a post on the tank. He said that once construction started we could make sure we weren't on top of the tank by either extending the deck out or moving the post. However once construction started he poured the post footer right beside our septic tank overlapping the top of it by several inches. After I saw this I emailed him about it and he assured me it was fine, but after researching the building code I asked him if that would be able to pass inspection. As soon as I mentioned an inspection he stopped responding to me. The next day he showed up with a refund check and said he thought we needed to part ways. This made it clear that Eric never got a permit for this job and new that it would not pass inspection. Since then I have talked with other contractors who have pointed out several other things that were not up to code and we even discovered that the initial design for the stairs did not have enough room to build them with the proper rise/run. We had to tear down and dig up everything that Eric did and start over in order to get a permit and have it pass inspections.

Would not recommend this company to anyone trying to build a barndominium home. Expect much longer…read morethan the advertised lead time. They received our check for half of the quote, and then became very poor communicators. It became an every day issue where we were calling asking for an update on the expected ship date, and given the run around of "let me check with this person" and no one would ever call us back. It took 4 months to receive the kit. We were told that they "underquoted" the delivery fee, and this was causing the significant delay because they would have to "eat that cost." It did not come with enough exterior framing materials, and and what it did come with was terrible quality. Over half of the boards had bark edges and very bowed. Some even had huge knots with holes all the way through the board that we were unable to use. We were charged more for longer posts because they claimed they didn't know what kind of foundation we had although they had copies of the blueprints and floor plans from the engineer they recommend. None of the fascia trim is big enough to cover the fascia board on the home even after specifically asking if it would cover the 2x8s. Not all of the trim was included. It does say you have 5 days to reach out regarding issues with materials received, but we didn't even waste our time trying to talk with them as they never give a straight answer.
