Katie does a great blonde color job. First appointment I went in wanting highlights and she tried to convince me to do balayage. I didn't listen. She still did great highlights. Second appointment I agreed to do balayage and I love it even more! Softer, more dimension, less maintenance. So she was right. She kinda tells it like it is but I trust her judgment now. First appointment she asked if I wanted my hair curled. I said don't bother as I'm just going to sleep after. She insisted on going the extra mile and throwing some curls in as i will be going home to my husband. I got home and for the first time ever after a hair appointment my husband said "ohhh lala." Had the worst "cut" of my life courtesy of Katie who is probably the laziest hairdresser I've ever been to. Showed her a photo of my own hair from just a couple of months previously and she barely looked at it. She then proceeded to take two inches off instead of just a half an inch and gave my hair no styling at all. I asked for a simple trim and for some additional layering all around. Nothing was done. This was all the while she pushed product on me - none of which I bought. She asked if she could style it differently from the photo; I said no but she did anyway with some awful as she called them "beach waves" which looked like Sh*t. For the worst haircut she then charged $100. Please, please, save your money and go elsewhere. read more

I wasn't going to write a review but after thinking about it for 3 weeks now I think it's best. I got in contact with Katie on January 3rd, we talked about my hair, I sent her photos of what I had wanted and she was all for it. She quoted me $190 and said that includes a trim. I told her I would need a few inches cut and she said that is fine. So I assumed that was it and budgeted my money for $190. I made an appointment to come in on January 9th at 4:30 I didn't get out of there until 8:30. She was very pushy with me when it came to what I wanted and was super rough with my hair throughout the whole experience, it's supposed to be relaxing and this was the complete opposite. I had told her of a previous time I got my hair dyed grey and it had washed out in 2 washes ( because of how porous my hair was) and how I had gone to the beauty store and had redone it myself and she goes "Oh, so you're one of those? Are you going to go to the beauty store after I'm done with you?" I had already had dye in my hair otherwise I would have walked out right then. So unprofessional. After the dye was in and we were getting ready to cut she was going in for a trim and I reminded her I wanted a couple of inches taken off and she said " I just did all this balayage and now you want me to cut it all off? Girl no." Again, I had already discussed a hair cut not a trim. She did end up cutting my hair and it is so uneven and choppy I wear it up now because it looks bad when it's straightened. The balayage I got done is the only decent thing I got out of my whole experience. When all was said and done she charged me $235!!! I was speechless and honestly upset.. I chalked it up to her charging me a $45 haircut. That left me $2 in my account. Thank god I was getting paid that next day otherwise I would have been screwed. I felt seriously taken advantage of. I was willing to let all that go and give her a second shot so I messaged her on the 14th inquiring about this oil she had put in my hair before we started I seriously fell in love instantly with how soft my hair was after she had put it in but didn't think to look to see what it was. So I messaged her asking what it was. She said she can order some, I said well I told my friend about it and she wants to get some as well... Katie said, " I can order two". So I replied " what's it called" no response back for two days. January 16th she texts me saying she's sorry and that " she's been super busy and if I wanted her to order the hair oil" I say " I just want to know what it is for my friend" again, no response. So I tell her I don't understand why I have asked 3 times now for the product you put in my hair and you won't tell me what it is. Surprise... no response! I had sent my last message today January 29th and that was for her to cancel an appointment I had made ( for a 6-week touch up) when I was in there. I have never had a stylist completely ignore me when asking about a product they used in my hair which makes me wonder... Katie had told me at the time she was putting it in my hair that " this stuff is $60, we can get you some." I feel like she's avoiding telling me because she is going to be out money if she were to tell me what it was so I could get it when I was ready and turn other people onto it and that right there is a red flag. I should've gone with my gut feeling and saw one of the other stylists there that I've read amazing reviews on. Wedding Hair!!!! I hired Heather Oakley from Shag Salon to do my hair and my bridesmaids hair for my wedding. I planned my wedding out of state and had no recommendations of connections in Bend so I was very nervous about how to find a fantastic hairstylist for my wedding. Heather was absolutely amazing. I would recommend her to anyone and everyone that wants perfect Pinterest worthy hair for a ridiculously affordable price. I wanted a complicated Blake Lively look with long loose curls (that would last through a hot outdoor summer wedding and dancing) and a braid thing. She honestly had my hair look better than the photos I showed her. Of all the amazing beautiful things about my wedding and wedding pictures, my hair is still the number one thing that people comment on. My wedding photos got featured on Style Me Pretty, and lots of people have Pinned my hair for their own wedding. If you live in Bend, do yourself a favor and use Heather! Also, she was way more affordable than most other people I talked to in Bend. On top of doing my hair perfectly, she did all my bridesmaids hair. Since I was wearing my hair down, I wanted all my bridesmaids to have up-do's but I was afraid they would love promy and outdated. I had 7 bridesmaids and she managed to have ever girl lover her individual unique hair and have them all look stylish and different. Se even wove little daisies in their hair, it looked amazing! She was also very timely and super sweet and helpful to have around on my big day! And again, very affordable for the bridesmaids hair as well. I'm new to Bend and have been desperately searching for a stylist to cut my hair - something that typically takes about 15 minutes to do. I live just blocks from Shag Salon and thought they'd be convenient for me to become an established client. I've called several times this past week and I've NEVER gotten a live person to talk to, so I've left msgs to call me back and have received NO return calls whatsoever. Very disappointing!! Heather put highlights in the top of my hair and cut it. My hair was 100% thick, healthy and several inches below my shoulders. She burned my hair to the point of having bald spots and and it was breaking off when I left the salon. It continued to break off everywhere she colored it. I told her and she was unsympathetic, no apology. I made a claim to her insurance carrier who came to my house and took a report, but never got back to me. I had 5 inches of my hair cut off initially, spent a lot of money trying to save my hair as it kept breaking off everyday. A month later I had more cut off. She was on the phone and left the color on too long and when she removed the foils she acted upset and put another color over the top to try to cover up the over bleaching. She ruined my hair and I am still dealing with the problem over a year later. I had not written a review thinking her insurance would compensate me in some way, but they never did. I would like to warn people about my experience. It takes a long time to grow your hair long and healthy and only minutes for someone to ruin it without a thought or apology. read more
