Covid Takeout Review Did a GrubHub takeout from Shagun Palace yesterday, and was very satisfied with the result. The restaurant is in the rear of a shopping center on Street Road, Bensalem, where there is a significant cluster of South Asian kitchens. Competition being severe, the quality is higher than in many more isolated Indian houses. Our order: Veggie Samosa for an appetizer; Chicken Korma, Chili Chicken - Dry, as entrees; and Baingan Bartha (curry eggplant), for a veggie side; and Garlic Naan to soak up the sauces. The foods were all very good to excellent, with kudos to the korma and dry chili chicken, which displayed spice skill with the sauces. The bird was perfectly cooked, and not at all dried out. If there was a weakness, it was the Naan, which appeared premade and merely heated in the oven before wrapping in foil. It was thicker and drier than normal, and not the least bit flakey, nor with expected air pockets. There was practically no garlic flavor. Next time, skip the naan. There are talented hands at Shagun Palace where they are allowed to perform their magic. They are masters of curry cream reductions, but make a mistake in not carrying the expertise through to their breads. If they lack a tandoor for BBQ and Indian oven breads, they really should invest in one. It would make Shagun a more complete 5 Star experience. read more

I wanted to give a try on this restaurant for a long time and placed an order for pickup. There are parking options available in front of the restaurant and shared with other businesses. The staff is friendly and got the order ready in time. They seem to have a buffet for lunch and a banquet hall attached. The anquet hall looked great. The food is very mediocre, and the chicken pakora tasted very bad spices, and chicken was not binding together. See the picture. Hate to give bad review, but really horrible food. We went on a Sunday, supposedly special meal was horrible. Service was decent. Highlight of the meal was freshly prepared Naan. All buffet items were not good, infact "pherni" had gone bad. They have parking upfront and an event hall attached. Ambiance is chill and it is a small place. But food was disappointing. read more

We came here during lunch for the lunch buffet. Was pretty surprised that it was pretty empty but maybe because it was during a weekday. The food was ok and there was a fair variety of food items to choose from. You needed to order the naan separately but inly if you asked for it. It was not an item in the buffet. I stopped in after getting Yelp directions since I wanted to eat Indian food and it mentioned Buffet on Yelp. Upon getting there the manager said no buffet but order using menu... I told him that they should have corrected buffet timings as Saturday/ Sunday. Anyway I decided after reviewing menu I liked few items so I ordered Egg Bhutto/ scrambled eggs -spicy w/ onions tomatoes cilantro ! Mixed in it.. great trading item with buttered Naan - Indian bread.. I really enjoyed quietness as only few people showed to eat at tables but many had carry out ordered so they waited to pick up their orders. They basically cook items when ordered that's why I should give five star but bad signage saying buffet ad you enter premises without specific about Sat/Sunday. read more

We decided to come here for lunch, and I heard the buffet was pretty good. It is under new management, which usually does nothing for me. I ate here one time three years ago, and it was bland, and no sparks flew. This time, to be honest, I was expecting the same outcome only because when they say under new management, I always think it's a line to bring new customers in. So I went and tried to have an open mind, and I'm glad I did; it was delicious. It was one of the best meals at a Buffet I've ever had. I can't tell you all the dishes they had out, but there was something for everyone's taste with two kinds of rice: Allo Tikki and Vegetable Pakora were two appetizers, and one was brought to the table called Samosa Chat. They had two types of Tandoori chicken for the main dish, one bone and one-off in a white curry sauce, Butter Chicken and a Beef dish, noodles, and much more. This place is a must-try if you like Indian food. If you're new to Indian food, there is no better way to try it than at a delicious Indian buffet. It is wheelchair accessible, no smoking, and has clean restrooms. It also has adjacent rooms for banquets, weddings, and big parties. I did not see a bar. I did not see that they had alcohol to serve. The prices are fair, and I will definitely be back. I learned something new: if a business says under new management, maybe it really is. I love the lunch buffet. Amazing vegetarian selection and the mango lassi was so good.

We arrived later in the evening during the workweek & the restaurant was empty. While we waited there were a number of take out orders being picked up. Our waiter was very attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered a mushroom dish as an appetizer. Then we ordered navratan korma (a creamy vegetarian dish) and chicken madras. We originally wanted the eggplant dish, but the kitchen was out of eggplant. The garlic naan was perfect. Where my review goes downhill is the women's restroom before I left. All along the edge of the floor were mouse droppings. I was a little repulsed by the amount of mouse droppings. It kind of soured my review. Upon leaving I hoped there was pest control going on. Another one jumps the shark! Ugh, don't you just hate that moment when you realize your favorite Indian restaurant has changed and gone downhill? This place used to be epic: super fresh tasting, huge portions and very friendly service. The service is still good, but now the food is very plain, the portions are small and the prices are high. So sad. I know COVID has dealt a blow to many restaurants, but I don't think small portions and bland food will help any restaurant make it through these challenging times. Unfortunately this place has gone down hill so much. It's really unfortunate I have to update my original 5 star review. The portions have literally been cut in half if not more. I used to order the pakora to go and get a stuffed tin and now they don't even fill the bottom of a tin. I used to love their weekday buffet. I believe the price used to be 9.99 or 10.99 but they've since removed that and only do a weekend 15.99 buffet. Such a jump. The quality just isn't there. When we lived in the area we went here all the time. Mother's Day we were supposed to go to a place that lost its power about 10 minutes before we should have been seated. That lunch buffet was DELICIOUS! So much variety! Just the right amount of spice! I got there at 11:31am and everything was ready and piping hot!! I was seated, received my naan, had three plates of food (lol), got my mango lassi to go, paid my bill & was out the door by noon in time to hustle back to work hahaha. Not sure why this place got less stars, but it's a good Indian buffet restaurant. The choices were plentiful, but most important, the food was tasty. Went here with the family for a Saturday lunch buffet. Enjoyed ample non-veg options, including goat, lamb, butter chicken, chili chicken, etc. Their veg options were just as tasty, especially the paneer dish. To top things off, you get a free Mango lassi with Yelp check in. Watched a cricket game and had a pleasant lunch. Would go again if in the area. read more

I ordered two dishes here, Palak Paneer, tikka masala and bread. Both dishes were watered down. It wasn't seasoned the way these dishes usually are seasoned. It had no taste whatsoever, except for the weird after taste from the tikka masala that I've never tasted before. The food was extra cold and tasted like it was microwaved from the freezer and wasn't cooked fresh. For almost forty dollars, I went to bed hungry b/c the food went in the trash. I've been to this place twice before and the food was pretty good. It is going downhill and i will not be returning. read more

Worst indian food I have ever tasted. I usually go to Indian Hut down the road, their food is great. This time we wanted to try something different. Decoration is good. Clean and fancy looking. We ordered fried rice, mutton curry, naan and chicken Biriyani and lassi. When the food came, we were surprised! All the dishes looked blood ref, you could see the chilli sauce all over the plater! I love spicy food. But if you are Indian, you know spice needs to be cooked. You cant just dump some hot sauce in the dish and mix that up. All the dishes tasted the same! Hair cooked into the food Stopped here for the lunch buffet. We were seated right away. The waitress brought us lukewarm tap water; no ice, no straws. The selection of food was good. We got there around 1130 figuring it was a good time to go since they open around that time for lunch. The food in the warmers was cold! The burners weren't turned on until noon. Then I found a hair cooked into the samosa. I showed the waitress and she took it away, but never apologized just acted like it was no big deal! She never even came back to our table! Wonderful buffet lunch today. Every item was very tasty, hot temperature and perfectly spiced. There were so many unusual things not usually seen on an Indian buffet. I was very pleased that they brought a basket of fresh naan to the table; I hate when it is sitting in the steam table all dried out. The service was friendly & we both enjoyed every bite. This is my new favorite Indian restaurant in Lower Bucks. The key is to order from the menu. I never had the buffet, but I have not heard good reviews. Food: food here is fresh and rich. The ingredients are fresh. The quantity is significant compared to price. Perhaps ask for medium spice level as they dial up the heat with spicy food Service: the service is actually very good. One star is over rated. I rather starve than eat their stale food. It was that bad. On top the staff has such a bad attitude. I am sure locals recognize and are very well aware of the unhygienic food situation. Short and sweet. Easy access and simply beautiful. As soon as we walked in we were welcomed like family. The menu was very easy to read. I had lamb Tikkah Marsala which was wonderful. Very fresh and nicely spiced, not to over powering. My wife had the Paneer Tikka Marsala which is a vegitarian entrée. Delicious and nice quantities. Together we had the Kashmiri Naan. I am an avid biryani lover, and have tried it in many places across the United States and India. This place has the best spicy mutton biryani I've ever had. The perfect amount of spices in the masala, and the rice is cooked to perfection. My mouth is watering just writing this review. This is the first time (and last) my mom and I have gone to this buffet/restaurant. First thing, we get there, we are seated, and served glasses of water. Cool! It's a buffet, so basically the water is your cue to help yourself. I will admit that, being a vegetarian, and mom is on and off, I was pleased to see that they had a good variety of veg/non veg food. I first set down a few small bowls of chutneys at our table to have with our meal. Not even 10 minutes later, we just get done making our plates of food, and find that not only has the staff removed our entire place setting, but there is another group sitting there! Mind you, the restaurant still had several available seats. So naturally, we made somewhat of a (DF?) fuss. The staff basically stood staring at us dumbfound until we just sat at another table. The remainder of the time was just awkward; probably contributing to us not enjoying our food. I actually wanted to leave at that point but mom wanted to stay. When I rank Indian food, I'm basically comparing it to that of my family's. The pani puri was a delight to see since my regular Indian buffet never has them. The garlic naan bread and dal were pretty good, and so was the gulab jamun. But the rice was severely under-cooked and crunchy. How disappointing not being able to have basmati rice at an Indian restaurant! According to mom, it seems that they may have confused sugar for salt in another one of their rice dishes, and the chicken tandoori was RAW and slimy. And of course not one more word from the staff. I didn't even want to drink the replacement waters they had given us. We just ate as quickly as we could paid and left. Will never go back. I love the lunch buffet and the great quality of the dishes they put out.The cauliflower pakora and chutneys are worth the price alone.The price is a mere $7.99. The Chicken Seekh Kabob (one of my favorites) is so moist juicy and spicy.I also love the tandoori chicken,Goat Curry,and my family adores the paneer makni. I would only request one thing give the Americans ice in their water.I know Indians like warmer water but on a whole we are lovers of ice.On the weekends the cost raises to 9.99 but they have chilli chicken and samosas and a few other dishes like lamb.The restaurant is clean,beautiful and the waiters are so helpful and polite. Stopped there for dinner hoping to try the buffet. The buffet, we found out, was lunch only. No problem. I was in the mood for Indian food and was here so sat down for dinner. At the time, there weren't many people in there, so service was prompt. Our water glasses were always filled and the servers there were always happy to help and greeted us with a smile. For dinner, I had the Chicken 65 (asked for spicy) with some rice and naan. My wife ordered the Chicken Makhani (mild) with rice and a separate order of naan. Both entrees came out in a reasonable time, piping hot and beautifully presented. The naan was perfectly cooked. Just a hint of crispiness around the edge, but soft enough to fold over and scoop up sauce and rice. The Chicken 65 was prepared how I prefer it. It didn't come smothered in sauce, and had a slightly crusted spice layer over the chicken itself. It was fairly spicy (though I prefer a bit more "heat") and quite delicious. The Chicken Makhani came out in a nice silver bowl. The portion size on this was fairly ample. The sauce had a hint of sweetness (as she wanted no heat to it) and had a nice buttery flavor. There was a nice amount of chicken in the pot, enough so that we took some home. Overall it was an enjoyable experience. It may not stand out to people, but the food was tasty and the people friendly. I'll have to make my way back for the lunch buffet on a weekend. read more
