I'm an orthopedic patient of Dr. Mahboubian. I came to him a year ago for extreme pain in my left knee. After a thorough examination of my xray, he showed me that I had bone on bone and recommended a knee replacement. I agreed to it, but he didn't perform it right away. I was obese, weighing in at 256 pounds and I am 5'2. Dr. M suggested that I lose weight first before I have surgery. Initially I didn't understand, and I was very upset with him. It took me a year to lose 65 pounds, but I did it and he performed the surgery on October 24, 2024. I am so glad that he recommended that I lose weight first. It is the best thing that I could've done for myself. I am recovering very well from my surgery and I know it is because I am not carrying the extra weight around with me. I will say this to anyone having to have a knee replacement and is overweight. Lose as much weight as possible. Dr.M said that losing as much as twenty pounds can make a significant difference in your recovery. Lastly I will say this. A total knee replacement surgery is painful, but being in better health, lessons the need to be on pain medication for an extended amount time. It makes it easier to perform the physical therapy exercises, which leads to a quicker recovery, and it lessens the chance of getting an infection. I have been a patient of Dr. Mahboubian for a couple of years for a knee issue. He seems to be experienced in his field, however, his Office manager, Alma, is extremely rude and has no empathy for patients that are in extreme pain. She doesnt want to listen to a patent's concerns and just talks over me and that is very upsetting! I have seen many doctors for various reasons over the years and never experienced this disrespect ever. I recently changed my insurance to include Dr. Mahboubian, and wasnt told or knew that I had to start all over again. Alma was very mean during that time. I was in extreme pain and had to go to emergency for treatment. Finally, I was given a medication, Meloxicam, which helped my knee pain but later caused internal bleeding, given by dr. M. I was not aware of that side effect and told the dr. office about it! I was then abruptly switched to another orthopedic dr. at the very time that I was supposed to get gel shots in my knee for pain relief! Also, the review was completely false against me. not a good experience for me. I was told I needed a major shoulder surgery in a very short appointment with the doctors. They refused to give me any pain. Relief. And when I called the office and told crystal that I needed to speak with the doctors because there needed to be a lot of things in place before I could have the surgery. I was never allowed to speak with the surgeons. Therefore, I would never trust them, not to mention. I've done more research. And they have some very bad reviews. Unbelievable ! I have had 18 knee surgeries and 2 shoulder surgeries so I have seen my share of Orthopedics. Donna, the nurse, is without a doubt, the most caring, compassionate, nurse I have ever had! I do not do well with cortisone shots so Donna gets my water, and holds my hand the entire time. Speaking of cortisone shots, I was petrified because usually they hurt so much I pass out. Dr. Mahoubian is amazing. Barely felt a thing. Not only that, he actually is funny, kind and above all very knowledgeable. I have been told by many Orthopedics I knee 2 TKR. However, Dr. Mahoubian has a plan that will most likely give me a few more years. I am so grateful to both of them. On top of that, the staff is awesome, and you do not wait forever. I took my father to Dr. Shahab Mahboubian for a necessary shoulder surgery. I was very worried because he was close to 80 and I've heard so many stories of this particular surgery not properly healing the shoulder. His office was very attentive and available. He Co pleated my father's surgery without a hitch. One month later my father in law required the same surgery. Although my father's surgery was still healing I took my father in law to Dr mahboubian because he had such a calm, professional, and assuring bedside manner. He's young, with the times, and does miraculous height lengthening surgeries (one of the few Dr's in the world). It's been a year and both my father and father in law are as good as new. SCAM DR OFFICE I waited weeks to get an appointment while my shoulder was dislocated. When I went in the doctor never saw me. His assistant talked over me the entire time. I told his assistant I'll just talk to the doctor when he comes in. His assistant said, "he's not coming in, but if I need surgery then he would see me". Wow, what a joke. I'm letting my insurance company know I'm 100% convinced this office is a scam. Don't waste your time!! This office takes no pride in their work. It's a cut-you-open-and-run company. It was a mistake to let Dr. Shahab Mahboubian do a surgery on me. My knee got super bad after surgery, but let's assume I was just unlucky. After that, I tried to contact him but he never ever answer. Someone had to drive me to the ER. His excuse is that he was changing his phone number so he was unable to take calls. What kind of professional surgeon leaves one of his patients to their own devices after a major surgery? I then tried to make follow up appts but he seems busy and couldn't take me anymore. He "referred" me to a physical therapist to handle the pain and recover, but none of the people he referred me to could take me... some of them even didn't practice anymore. Got canceled due to COVID-19 testing. I got tested at official site for COVID-19 but this doctors office cancelled my surgery because I didn't go to get tested their Referal place. They said that the COVID-19 testing on topanga canyon testing facility center is not valid. All this time I knew people get tests done but for my doctor it's not accurate testing center. The rudest staff ever. I was having a conversation on instagram with their marketing person and they didn't like my questions. They blocked me and then when I called to ask the same question the front desk was so rude. Update: the condescending response to my review only magnifies how dismissive this office is with a person's time. I arrived early to fill out paper work. I was finished with the paper work by the time my appointment was supposed to start. I fully expect to wait for a doctor who may be in surgery or be running over time, but an hour+ of a wait with zero acknowledgement of the length of my wait is bullshit. Also- I can't get an X-ray because I'm pregnant and there was no blood work done. This office is inefficient. Period. Go somewhere else. If your time is important to you, find another doctor. My appointment was at 9 am. I was 5 min early. I was a new patient so I arrived a few minutes early to fill out paper work. At 9:20 I was put in a room and then a man who arrived at the office 10-15 min after me was put into a room. At 9:37 a nurse came in to ask if I had any X-rays done (even though I'd just filled out the paperwork that asked the same question and I answered "no). I asked her if a wait of that length was common. She said yes without hesitation. Noted. The doctor saw the other guy first saw him first. I could hear his entire visit thanks to the extremely thin walls. At 9:59 the doctor took a 7 minute phone call. Again, thin walls. At 10:06 he walked into my room. He asked how I was and I said I was irritated as my appointment was at 9. He apologized but it was very clear that this was very normal for the office. Don't waste your time. Dr. Mahboubian did a total knee replacement for my husband, and he is the best. His knee is solid, and totally recovered, and I am glad we went with him. His office can get hectic, and the wait's often long, but that's no different than most surgeons we been to. His staff seems to be efficient, and they are very nice. He is a caring man, and we found him to be as likeable as he is talented at surgery. Simply put, we would not hesitate to go back to Dr. Mahboubian, if I needed my other knee replaced, he is a skilled Doctor. We would recommend him to anyone who needs a knee replacement. read more

The nurse Denash was intentionally rude when she thought I had been discharged, I called in to ask for 2 mins of the Dr's time she was shocked to realize I hadn't been discharged, left me on hold for ever!! Finally she gets back on the phone and rudely asks how she could go about helping, turns out she her self could write an Rx of pain killers for me. I pick up the Rx, take it to rite aide, it is unclear and needs to be verified.. A whole day passes, I call rite aide, they left a msg for the nurse @ 10am. The nurse never returned the call. I will be without meds for yet another DAY. I called the Dr's after hours service, he instructed them to tell me JUST CALL IN tomorrow.. Zero fu$&s were given about my pain, pain Rx or, the nurses blunder. Tomorrow will be another day.. I will update this... Awful in every way. read more
