I'm not sure why but in the past I was never a great fan of Shah's, but I have then another few chances lately and was very pleasantly surprised. The only things I've ordered so far are the chicken or lamb over rice or salad, but both were great. And I really love that they give you packets of the white sauce (which I like much more now than in the past) so you can put as little or as much as you want. The only thing to point out to people are sensitive to heat, Shah's has a more bite than Clay Oven. Oh! And their fries are THE BOMB. Not too thin, not too thick, crispy on the outside (even with carry out) and soft and creamy on the inside. How could I forget the fries?! read more

Been meaning to try Shah's for awhile now and finally did it last night. The food was amazing!! Staff was friendly and offered to let us taste something first if we would wanted to. We have had Halal before at another place and it was ok but Shah's Halal had them beat 100%. Very fresh and the lamb was so tender. This will be our place for Halal from now on. read more

My son and I are always arguing where the best Halal food is on Long Island. Over 130 reviews and a ROTD brings me to Shah's Halal Food in Selden. Walking in just before noon, the kitchen is prepping their stations. What they brought out was enough rice to feed a small army! Rice all day I say! Lots of plexiglass up, Shah's food is well insulated from the public. I'm looking at the prices, very reasonable for lunch. I order a combo meal which is both grilled chicken and lamb over basmati rice. My server lays down the white sauce and I ask for a peppering of red sauce. All said and done, she passes my food thru a flap and I sit down in a booth to partake in my combo love fest. Both the chicken and lamb are nicely cooked, they are both moist and flavorful. I'm enjoying each spoonful of basmati rice, the combo bite and mixture of sauces. This is a nice place to enjoy a warm, hearty lunch. If you're on Middle Country Rd, find this place. Shah's Halal has its fans & following. Seeing the new sign up all the way out in Selden? Turned the car around for a quick take out for later. You don't have to ask me twice, or at all.. Just show me the food truck fun styled halal and I'm there. You can't pass this place by, or shouldn't. I keep getting the same thing I saw others getting at the Hicksville place. Chicken/ Gyro combo over rice with salad, white sauce, and small amount of hot sauce. They suggested a bit of peppers & onions, so sure and would add again. The Stars are starting to fall :( Quality has been slipping. Condiments are going downhill. Brown lettuce often, seems like if the server gives more than a portion control they will be in trouble. This is hands down the best halal place in New York. My wife and I recently moved from Pakistan and this place feels like home. We love the food, the employees, the serving size and most importantly we love their hospitality, their kindness. When I enter this restaurant I say "Assalamualaikum" and they say "Walaikum Asslaam". It's such an amazing feeling. Our favorite goto guy is Harris, he is extremely kind and such an amazing fella. Everyone else are also nice. I'm glad they have a spot closer to the Stony Brook campus, even though it's still a bit of a drive. Unlike NYC halal carts, this place offers the choice to add peppers, hummus, black beans, onions, and cucumber tomato salad to the meal. I thought that was pretty nice since you can really make it your own! I got the combo which was the lamb and chicken and I thought both meats were cooked really well and super tasty. I preferred the lamb, while my boyfriend preferred the chicken. So it's a coin toss. But I think they gave a pretty good portion of meat in proportion to the rice. There is space for car parking and inside there is about 5 booth style seating that can probably hold 6 people each. I think one of the reasons I get annoyed at this place is that the workers are incredibly slow, even when there's no one in the restaurant. I can't imagine what it's like if it's packed. read more

This is definitely a place to go to if you are in the mood for Halal. I ordered the combo platter of chicken and lamb. The lamb tasted like a traditional seasoned lamb that you would find on a gyro. Tender, flavorful. The chicken was surprisingly my favorite. Whatever they use for the seasonings is what had this be the winner. Very authentic tasting and loads of seasonings. I had the platter topped with rice (which I finally found a halal place that doesn't have bone dry rice!!) lettuce, chick peas, black beans, peppers and onions and a ton of white sauce. Due to recommendations on here, I asked for the "green sauce" on the side which is basically cilantro but it was delicious. They sell their white sauce by the bottle. The food that they make taste really good, however they are very SLOW.They have a similar setup to places like Subway and Chipotle, yet for some reason it take 15 to 20 minutes to get your food. I tried orderiñg from them on Uber Eats and it took over two hours to get my delivery. Two different drivers came and left because they got tired of waiting for my order which by the way was very small. As an Uber eats driver, I've gone there to pick up deliveries and tell me that it'll be ready in 2 minutes and it takes closer to half an hour. Usually I just cancel and let someone else pick it up when they tell me it's not ready yet because they take FOREVER. THEY'RE NOT EVEN PERSONABLE HERE. They have a give no fucks attitude when it comes to customer service don't fucking tell me that my order is going to be ready in 2 minutes 2 minutes until it's actually ready. I'd also like to note that aside from my complaints about the delivery time, all these are issues I had prior to the covid-19 pandemic so that's not a factor in the situation. read more

Halal-cart-style food is moving east and I could not be happier. Shahs did not disappoint! We shared a lamb platter and falafel platter. You must, MUST get green sauce on the side. The lamb was super tender and flavorful, and the falafel was nice and crunchy on the outside. Everything was perfect. You can't beat 2 excellent halal platters for under $20 total. We also shared baklava, not sure if they make it in-house but it was good! If you're looking for halal and live anywhere east of Nassau County, finally there is a spot for you! I've been wanting to try this place out, and after getting a car repair next door, the timing was perfect. However, I was more than a little disappointed. The salad was fresh and tasted good, and but the falafel was hard and extremely bland. The hummus was just ok, nothing special. It tasted a lot like the kind you can get at the supermarket. The pita was really flat and chewy, and nothing like what I've ever had served with falafel before. Pitas are usually soft and fluffy everywhere I've had them in the past. The baklava was just ok. The service was worse than the food. The girl seemed bored and frankly bothered at the fact of having to do anything. When we asked for salads with falafel, she shouted into the back about falafel with rice. We told her we didn't want rice, and she shouted at us "yeah, rice!" Right when Shah's opened, I moved away and every time I visited my mom, I thought about Shah's. Finally, after a two week stay at her house during this pandemic, we decided to order lunch in from here. It was great. She loved it, I loved it, and instantly it's a staple. For two meals that we both didn't finish in one sitting, it was ~$16 which really means $4/meal - basically a steal. We ordered a second time within the two weeks and I chose pickup instead of delivery. I know because of social distancing they only allow a small number of people inside at a time, but what sucks about their process is this includes people ordering. So when I get there, I wait on a line 5 people behind the front [and of course families of four have to go in together instead of sending one person in] and my food is just sitting there getting cold. I finally get inside and I go to the register since I already ordered. No one acknowledges the fact that I'm standing there, and instead, they help a woman waiting to order who was behind me. So I go to the "order" side, to have the other man working turn his back and check the new seamless orders coming in. It wasn't until I was audibly expressing my existence until I got helped and my food was sitting on a cold counter, unlike other orders sitting under a heating lamp. My food was actually chilled when I got home. I can't knock down the rating knowing the world is in a crazy place and everyone is adjusting to this new "normal." I would definitely go back because the food is yummy and cheap, but I hope their process/service improves and I would gladly update my review accordingly. read more

I've only ever tried their chicken over rice. Prices are awesome, you really can't get better than that for the amount of food they give. You are able to sit down and eat which is nice or you can take out. Their quick, they have you in and out. I love the fact that their open pretty late serving food. And the staff has been nice.
