Pieces of feta wrapped in phyllo and topped with a honey drizzle. It tasted like a zeppole with cheese. The appetizer was very generous in size and was more than enough. Nice clean place but there were no paper towels in the restroom.... service was ok.. they were really nice.. food is ok. We ordered 3 items. Chicken was dry.. fries was very oily. We were semi frequent customers to Mazza. Although there were always errors in the order, we would go back because the food was decent, close to our house and it was never crowded. Tonight, there was a miscommunication in the order, I was gracious to accept it. They asked if we wanted gyro meat and we said sure. when the bill came, they added in for the meat which to me was poor as they offered. They should have said it would be a charge. We just commented but was going to pay the fee but said something for principle. The owner came over and said for us to never come back, mind you we were the only ones there! This establishment was fantastic. The flavor was amazing and what I'm most glad for is how close by they are to my home. Sam, who I believe is the owner's son, was really friendly and accommodating and treated us with kindness and a ready smile. We stopped by this place after reading about them in a Patch article that offered information about their establishment. Since we knew it was a newer locale, we were eager to give them a try. One important note is that the kind of cuisine they offer adds a flavor and a style that is not prominent in Patchogue, which diversifies the area. I love it! When we arrived, they were overwhelmed so it took a minute to get service. Yet, they were apologetic since they were understaffed and, in the end, the meal was every bit worth the wait. The soup was delicious. The meat succulent. And the wine options very tasty! In fact, we had a conversation about some ideas I thought might be good for the restaurant as far as their bar and website are concerned (like doing a wine flight given their awesome dishes that could make for excellent spread platter accompaniments to wine) and he was totally receptive to the thought and get the bar area hopping with more customers. It's refreshing to be in an establishment that is willing to have a dialogue with their patrons. The establishment is nice, cozy, and inviting, and I highly recommend you give them an opportunity and try them out. I certainly will be coming back to have some excellent eats. read more

Our friend have been raving about this restaurant and we finally went with them. From the mezzes (appetizers) to the mains to the desserts, we were FLOORED! The Gigante beans and feta in phyllo dough were amazing. The Manitou outstanding. The lemon potatoes I have no words for. The spices used are delectable. The ambience and care this family brings to the dining experience is top-notch. After having been to Greece 18 times, the food here matches or surpasses anything we've eaten! I love this place. I have only been once but it was a phenomenal experience. Great clean restaurant with good amount of seating, and few bars seats at the bar. I was welcomed by Samir, the owners son. Great gentleman, great conversation and doesn't mind genuine criticism because he wants to keep making the experience better. I ordered a Lamb Gyro Sandwich/Pita. I asked for extra protein and they asked for 5 dollars, and I said as long as it's a good amount, it's no problem. (Side-note: Please don't go out to eat if you're cheap,enjoy the experience wherever you are) He assured me it would be good amount on the side. Gave me an honest time-frame of how long the food would take to be ready, only 10 minutes. We chatted about the Afghani and Greek culture and how they blended them together. Food came out, and boy was it a lot of lamb meat! I was delighted with the quantity. One bite and I was ecstatic, perfect lamb. Light crispy outside, tender inside, moist. This is NOT one of those places with tasteless, dry nonsense that a lot of these Greek style restaurants call food smh. I loved it, ate the whole sandwich, nearly finished the extra protein on the side, but I was absolutely stuffed. I spent about 17-20 dollars for the sandwich with extra protein and a can of coca cola. More than fair, especially when the food is banging. The meat is all halal which is a huge positive quality and honestly how all places should be, but that's another conversation. I will be back with my family and dine in and have a full in depth experience. Thanks to the hospitality and good food, I am definitely going to try dishes they have which I never would have otherwise. MUST TRY SPOT! read more

The restaurant is attractive and clean. The menu looked good. The salad with lamb gyro meat came to $18.00 for the salad and an additional $8.00 for the gyro meat totaling $23.00. I was expecting a great salad! Unfortunately, I was very disappointed! The size of the salad itself was quite small plus the amount of gyro meat was minuscule! I frequent Zorba in Port Jeff and Chicken Kabob in Roslyn. Their portions are what you expect and at a fraction of the cost at Mazza. PLUS... theirs taste good! I don't mind paying more but I expect a decent portion and something tasty! The salad was quite bland and the gyro meat was not great either! To make matters worse, a glass of wine was $14.00 and it too was quite SMALL! I ordered a diet Coke and the menu said $3.00 but my check said $4.00! I didn't even get a can... a glass full of ice with some Coke sprinkled over it! Service? There was one man who was more busy with take out orders. I had to wait forever for the check. Great little spot that seems to be getting overlooked among all of the other options in Patchogue. Our server was welcoming and attentive, explaining the menu and telling us about her move from Greece to NY all at the same time. Everything was clearly made fresh and made to order. Food was overall a 4/5 and deserves even more credit given the large portion sizes and how reasonable the prices are (Especially for Patchogue) Mantu and Kachaloo ended up being a great pairing to hit two very different flavor profiles. I got the Mantu which are ground beef dumplings with yogurt & tomato sauce, I always have to get grape leaves (dolmades), & then my favorite was the Borani Banjan which is panfried eggplant with spices, yogurt & tomato sauce. Best Afghan food in New York!!!!! Loved that it was run by an Afghan family with the concept of Afghan and Meditatarean cuisine!! Although it is nice to have some variety in the Patchogue food scene, this place shouldn't be considered if you are looking for Mediterranean food. It was our first time trying this place and it will be the last. What was good: The falafel and the mantu. The falafel is crispy and flavorful and the mantu is a unique dish that is definitely worth trying. What was bad: $25 for a lamb kebab platter that had 7 cubes of unseasoned lamb on top of a mountain of bland rice. Imagine one of those foil dinner dishes just filled with rice, 7 dinky pieces of lamb and some potatoes. $24 for a salad with a few pieces of grilled chicken. $7 for tzatziki that came in one of those small side sauce cups. The tzatziki was unpalatable, it was almost... sweet? Moral of the story, there are way better Mediterranean options around that will serve you better tasting authentic Greek/Turkish food for a fraction of the price. Save yourself time and money and skip this place. The price absolutely does not match the quality. read more

We stumbled into Mazza while the VERY EXPENSIVE shoe repair guy across the street was doing a fix, and were pleasantly surprised with a great lunch in a friendly atmosphere. First up: an on-the-house plate of fresh pita and spreads (olive and roasted tomatoes). The Greek salad was crisp and perfect, as was my husband's lamb souvlaki with a fab side of fragrantly spiced tzatziki--which I devoured. Came in during the middle of the week for lunch - it was pretty quiet but that's fine by me. Everything is painted white and looks clean - space can be a little tight if you got a larger party. The husband/wife duo are super friendly and attentive. They give complimentary hummus and olive tapenade with pita - that humus is so good I could literally eat a bucket of it. It took a hot minute for me to get my kabuli pulao - which chef wife apologized for which I wasn't mad about. It's a super hearty dish and super flavorful with green sauce and yogurt you can dip your lamb and rice into. Overall would love to see them expand on more Afghan cuisine! Checking back in to confirm that Mazza is still one of the best spots in town. We recently brought my in-laws to an early dinner and we just love Mazza! The restaurant is always clean and bright, there's not a bad seat in the house. It's family owned and the staff are friendly and grateful for your patronage. Everyone that works there is a friendly face and they go out of their way to stop over and say hello. We love chatting with them and asking for recommendations. Boloni Kachaloo was a new try for me, and it was fabulous. I'll be ordering it regularly from now on! My husband's all time favorite dessert isn't just rice pudding, it's Mazza's rice pudding. It's homemade on site and a delicious labor of love. Salads are crisp and fresh and they use high quality ingredients in everything. My mother in law is dealing with some newly discovered food sensitivities and they were super understanding and open to discussing the ingredients of everything. We always have such a great experience here, and hope they stick around for a long long time. Mazza is one of our frequent go-to spots for takeout, but stopping in for a meal is always an enjoyable time. Give Mazza a try for either one - you will not be disappointed! read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Mazza Mediterranean. In our quest to "eat through the alphabet," we were in search of authentic Afghan cuisine and we found it here! We shared several appetizers: Mantu (dumplings filled with ground beef, topped with a yogurt sauce and chickpeas), Boloni Kachaloo (breaded and fried potato with yogurt-cilantro sauce), Borani Banjan (eggplant with yogurt-tomato sauce), and the house-supplied pita and hummus and olive tapenade. For the main dishes, we chose Kabuli pulao (Afghanistan's "National dish": lamb shank with rice and raisins, flavored with cardamom and cumin) and marinated chicken kabobs. Everything was well-spiced and flavorful but not spicy-hot. The food was expertly prepared and graciously served by the owner couple, formerly of Afghanistan. Their warmth and hospitality greatly enhanced our experience. We appreciated their cultural insights. We capped our leisurely meal with tea, shir birinj (rice pudding), and great conversation. I have to say this is an excellent addition to Patchogue Village, I've been waiting for a Mediterranean food that was authentic and flavorful. I ordered a chicken kebab and rice with lemon potatoes. It was cooked to perfection, it had deep and rich flavors. The food is Halal, which is a plus. I enjoyed the meal so much that I am taking the family this weekend for dinner. I wish I could give more than 5 stars because this restaurant is incredible!! They gave us a complimentary olive spread and sun dried tomato spread with pita, which was so fresh and delicious. The lamb was so tender, juicy, and flavorful. We also had the spicy feta spread and tzatziki, which were both amazing as well. All of the ingredients were really fresh and the ambiance is so cozy and friendly. Our server, Sophia, was the sweetest and she went above and beyond.
