10-15-23 This place deserves as close to a perfect review as a business could get. First off, the food is prepared right in front of you and the ingredients are on display for you to customize your dish (or gyro sandwich). I've visited a few times and noticed that the store is well lit and kept very clean. Next is the customer service........the guys behind the counter are friendly, patient and respectful. Always service with a smile. I've tried the chicken and rice platter, lamb and rice platter, falafel and rice platter, chicken gyro and a few other sides and they all were very good. Spiced a little on the heavy side (which I like) while providing just the right amount of heat (without being over the top). White sauce is fantastic, but go sparingly with the hot sauce......if you overindulge, your bu#th0le isn't going to like you very much. Prices are very reasonable which is always a plus these days. The only place I've ever had halal food is in Manhattan. Never even occurred to me that I could also get it on Long Island. Thanks to my daughter, though, she knew about this place, so we had the good fortune of eating some from here during my recent visit to L.I. I got what I always get..... grilled chicken, rice, and salad.... of course, with the WHITE sauce. No red for me. It was really delicious, as I had hoped it'd be. I was skeptical when first trying this place because I'm very particular about my halal food. I had been frequenting a cart a few towns over when craving a mix over rice. I know there are a few other Shah's which is why I was nervous to try it. The reason for that is I know other chain halal places such as The Halal Guys and very much dislike their food. To all the skeptics like myself previously, I'd like dispel any doubt; this place is the real deal. The mix over rice is top notch. Both the chicken and lamb are tasty plus there are a variety of veggies to throw on top. DO NOT forget to ask for extra white sauce when ordering, it is the key to pulling this platter together. I've also tried a few other items on the menu and was pleasantly surprised. My gf and I both liked the cheese burger and chicken sandwich as well as the French Fries. The employees are also typically friendly as well. There are bad halal places out there that try and make a quick buck over the halal craze by giving out subpar food. This is not one of those places. I would like to start this review with the mutual understanding that I would consider myself "halal enthusiast" so I am a fairly hard critic when it comes to the food. Halal food in the last 2-3 years has been blowing up quite a bit across the north east which is a very good thing. On my commute home from work the signage for "Shah's Halal Food" definitely caught my eye. My first try here left me fairly impressed overall. The store front, sitting area, and behind the counter is all very clean and sleek looking. For a diversified try out test I always go combo lamb / chicken over rice. I have to say at first when they pulled out the "to go" tin it was looking very weak. This is probably Hamza and Madina's fault since they essentially are providing two meals in there container but I digress. The amount of lamb / chicken was more then adequate and they really stuff it in that small tin. A small complaint is I would prefer a little more rice which feels like a small bed layer at the bottom of everything. The way I top this bad boy off is a bit of lettuce, 3 strips of white, 2 strips of red. Kudos to the maniac here serving me who did 3 strips of white and then X'ed my tin out with the red (style points). So what was it like eatting it? Pretty damn good! The lamb as another reviewer put it may be the best lamb I ever had from a Halal place. Moist and fresh and this is a true test because it's where most of your local food trucks fail. The chicken to was very rich tasting and well seasoned. If you have a negative bias to spice - you better be using your white sauce liberally but spice is nice to me. I don't know much of the history of this chain but I do know it has a few locations on the island. Let's face it Halal Guys is name worthy but also the most expensive and the worst value (you're paying for a name)... Hamza and Madina is THE BAR in Hicksville... But for me Shah's is definitely moving on up and especially because it's in my own home town. Really excited about this new spot, and you should be too! read more

Chicken over is so beautifully seasoned with fine, slow cooked basmati rice. Best of all.... drum roll....... you make your own salads. Just ask the gentlemen what you want and how much.
