My roof started leaking unexpectedly right before the holidays with rainstorms looming. Two of my coworkers recently had their homes re-roofed and both highly recommended Shake Shingle & Roll Roofing. Dave, the owner, came out personally and inspected my roof on short notice. Unfortunately, my roof was shot, a big rainstorm was in the forecast and SS&RR was booked solid for the next 6-8 weeks. Dave offered a temporary repair at a reasonable price that would get me through rainy season, but he recommended a replacement as soon as possible. He also said that if we decided to go with SS&R, that he would cover the bad area with a tarp at no charge until he could fit us in. I told Dave I would likely go with the temporary repair or the even more temporary tarp job, but I needed to get other quotes. Dave understood and encouraged me to obtain other quotes. While SS&RR may not have offered the lowest price, it was certainly a fair one and their work was excellent. I cannot say enough about Dave, Priscella and the entire crew at SS&RR. The job was completed quickly and the crew was very courteous, highly professional and they cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each day. Dave or his Foreman were onsite throughout the project to monitor progress and ensure the crew had everything they needed. I would also like to thank Dave for going the extra mile for me. My neighbor and I had to trim very tall eucalyptus trees in our backyards shortly after my re-roof. The Tree Trimmers had to get on top of my 2nd story to remove many of the overhanging limbs. The were lots of alarming thuds while the Tree Trimmers were on the roof and they were also chain sawing branches while on the roof. When Dave heard about this, he came out on his own time and inspected the roof to make sure there wasn't any damage to my new roof from the Tree Trimmers. I cannot think of many business owners who would do this for their customers without even being asked. Shake, Shingle, and Roll (SSR) put a new roof on our 2,340 sf 1960's home this month, and I could not be more pleased. When Dave, the owner, came and gave me a quote, he had all the product literature ready and made sure we covered what would be best option(s) for our new roof. The tear-off set the tone: arrived promptly, a few clarifying questions, and they got to work. They put material on tarps and 2 guys carried the tarps to the trash bin so nothing dropped. The deal to leave paper on garage to last to minimize debris in attic was done cleanly. When done, I walked the property and only found small pieces, not a nail one (compared to my neighbor who is still finding nails months later). The roofer, Mario, is very detail orientated and did all the roof work: replace boards, paint, fix damaged wood, lay OSB, flashing, shingles, and hot tar work. SSR staff came by each day to haul debris, bring needed supplies, and check in with Mario. The 3 points that the roofs meet were each done cleanly and with an artisan's touch. The flashing, vents, and electrical pole were all painted to match leaving the completed roof with a finished look. When Mario finished Dave came by to do the final inspection, but note he was also up on the roof 2-3 times during work. Dave was so helpful giving tips on our flat roof, not part of this work. The good news was my 10 year warranty lasted 17 years. The bad news. It was time to get a new roof. I went back to SSR because of their freedom from worry. I got several quotes, and decided to go with them because they were very competitive, offered several options and were responsive to my roofing questions. They actually did my Boss's roof and he initially recommended Dave to me because he was so pleased. The work they did at my home was very high quality and timely. It also looked beautiful! After the recent storm, I noticed a leak. I called them, they came right out (the next day!) and fixed it at no cost. Imagine my surprise when they showed me that the leak was coming from the side of the house where there was a crack/small hole in the stucco and not the roof itself. I had my roof redone in November, 2023 by Shake, Shingle and Roll. It was a shingle roof on the house and a flat roof on the garage. I was very pleased with the quality of the work, the knowledge of the materials and the communication with the office staff during the whole time. In July, 2024, I received a letter from my insurance company saying they were not going to renew my homeowner's insurance policy because of ponding on the roof, and for another reason, not to do with the roof. I have had this policy for over 25 years. I called the office of Shake, Shingle and told them what was going on. Dave came out to my house with an associate, walked my roof and explained to me about "Tobacco-Juicing" and said the roof is fine, there is no ponding. Priscilla and Dave wrote a letter explaining about "Tobacco-Juicing" and included photos, that I am submitting to my insurance company. I am very grateful to all at Shake, Shingle and Roll. Shake Shingle and Roll Roofing (SSRR) just finished our roof. We got a new roof (shingles), new wood (4x8 sheets), dry rot and termite damaged wood replaced. They did a stellar job. I am very picky, very hard to please and have a keen eye for detail. I could not be happier. The initial presentation from Dave set the tone. He shows up with the all the brochures of the products, warranty information, specs, SSRR certificate of insurance (which has all the insurance companies info from liability, workers compensation and so on). I wanted to make sure that their insurance policy covered torch down work - he also had his policy with that section highlighted for me. All those documents he gave to me. Dave was articulate intelligent/very knowledgeable - addressed all our (my wife and I) concerns and he's just a great guy. Next on the team is Steve - he functions as a supervisor/foreman. I put him through his paces. I walked the job every day when I got home from work and voiced/texted my concerns. He was responsive, patient, professional and made sure my wife and I were happy with the job. Lastly, but certainly not least is Armando. An amazingly hard working man. Very skilled knowledgeable roofer. He also listened and was responsive to all our concerns. Whatever they are paying him, it's not enough! At the end of the job Dave reappears to remind me about the warranties and deadlines. He said to call them back out at the 7-8 year mark so they can make sure everything is good and again in 14-16 years to make sure we get the maximum life out of our roof - those inspections are at no charge. My roof had some work done a few years ago to address dry rot. But the rest of the roof was 40 years old and in need of replacement. I contacted that contractor I used before to see about doing the work. I did get an estimate from him, but felt I wanted to get others. One I got was from Shake, Shingle, and Roll. They were able to offer a greater selection of products for significantly less, and gave me the best feel of all the estimates I got. There was a delay in getting started though, I was told that one of their crew was having a family situation and wasn't available to work for a while and they had to compensate to give him the time he needed. This only made me feel even better about this company - they actually care about their people, and that's getting rare these days. They did finally get me scheduled - and a job that was expected to take a week took 3 and a half days. Much faster than expected, and a beautiful job they did. And the final cost was exactly what the estimate was. (But that's because my wood was in very acceptable condition. Otherwise, I would have had to pay for the additional lumber, which is only fair.) One more thing that sold me on them - Dave, the owner, came out personally for the initial estimate, and he told me he had done every roof on the street he lives on. I hired Shake Shingle & Roll to replace the roof on my 3-bedroom house. From removal to completion, the process took about 1 week, which is impressive because it was raining for more than half of that week! The roofers did an excellent job of protecting the structure from rain and wind, and timing their work around the rain. I work full-time, and I was never home during the installation. Their office staff would call or email me occasionally with questions, and they relayed the information back to the roofing team. This worked well. During the work, there was a minor issue with an electrical circuit on my house - a breaker kept tripping. This may have been construction-related, or it could just be a random issue with the circuit. I emailed the company, and they had an electrician fix the problem at no cost to me! After the new roof was installed, the crew did a very thorough job of cleaning up. They left the yard and garage cleaner than when I moved in! read more

An update on this review - long story short, these guys have shown very solid customer service with a recent interaction and I am changing the rating from (1) to (4) stars. The details- we had a small leak in a wall recently- grateful nothing bigger with all the rain we've had this winter!. I called the team at SS&RR to see if they could help us evaluate and determine the source. They sent an excellent rep out (Steve maybe?), he took a very thorough look at everything and gave some helpful info/context for what may be causing the leak. After making sure there weren't any major issues, he added some extra caulking to some areas at the parapet (bolstering what was already very sufficient), bagged up the excess gravel that has collected near the scupper, and helped locate some areas we could try patching on exterior walls/windows that were likely culprits. I was impressed with the guy's comprehensive evaluation, clear communication, and willingness to help offer possible solutions outside the scope of the roofing work that we could look into. We have since done some light window/wall sealant patching and have seen no moisture on the inside after the most recent storm. The initial roofing work they did a few years ago seems to be solid, which is more important than anything else at the end of the day. It was their lack of communication and sloppy prep/cleanup when they did that original work that was very disappointing. I would suspect that we happened to get scheduled when they were really busy, maybe they didn't have a great manager on the job and the attention to detail wasn't there? I guess that's pretty typical in the construction world. Overall they've won quite a bit of trust back- they seem like a solid company. read more

This review is long past overdue. I have used Shake Shingle & Roll three times now over the past 10 years to do repairs on my tile roof. Each time, the owner Dave has personally come out, climbed up on my roof, and taken pictures to show me what the problem is. Each time, I have opted to do a repair instead of replacement because I honestly have not been able to afford to re-do my entire roof in the past 10 years. Every time it rains hard I always pray my roof won't leak, and wherever Dave has made a repair, my roof has held up. Eventually I know I will have to re do my entire roof, and I will absolutely be calling Shake Shingle & Roll to do it. The first time I used SS & R, I had called multiple roofing companies in San Diego and NO ONE wanted to mess with a repair. If I was not interested in a quote for a new roof, no one would even come out to my house. Dave was the only one who would, and I sincerely appreciate his work ethic (and the guys that work for him and the office staff as well) and honesty and his understanding that not everyone has the ability to replace something as major as a roof at the drop of a hat! 5-stars all the way!! read more
