It was so wonderful visiting this Shakey's Pizza Parlor! I worked at a Shakey's some 40 years ago in Richfield, Minnesota, and haven't had the food since they closed their doors here. I had no idea there was one out in Oroville, and it was fun! The atmosphere is very casual, and definitely has a nod to the past, between 80's video games, and an antique display case. It warmed my heart seeing all of these things. The service was great, and the restaurant was full when our party of five went there for lunch. The fried chicken was delectable. The jojos scrumptious. Not the delicious dinner I remember having last time. Came here after we were in town for a football game and I was super excited! The last time we were here, the pizza was delicious and the live band was the cherry on top. Had an incredible time.. So it was a no-brainer to have dinner here with the family after a tough loss to the south All-Star team . We ordered pepperoni pizza, and the big chicken and Mojo platter and a few trips to the salad bar. I will say that the staff was very kind and very patient with the flood of customers . Seems like every family had the same idea to stop here for dinner. It made the wait a little long for the food which was completely understandable and the staff did their best to keep the salad bar stocked, but we did have to wait a little bit. No problem. The hard thing was that the food was just not very good. The olives were terrible. I think they might have been bad. .. so on the veggie pizza, the salad bar and the loaded mojo's.... The olives gave everything a bad flavor. The Mojo's were dry, and the chicken was way too salty. So we were hungry we stopped by Shakey's in for Oroville,Ca. We came in. We ordered a house combo with everything and a half combo with no onions or peppers. We also got the salad bar with a couple of sodas. The salad bar was absolutely delicious. The service was wonderful. Unfortunately the pizza was not at all what I was hoping for, the crust was as flat as a piece of paper and burn. I might come back for the salad, but definitely not the pizza. I miss the Shakey's pizza place in my home town. There used to be three but all closed. On a trip to Portland, OR a long time ago, I noticed Shakey's was still around. When I got home, I did a search and found out, that Shakey's pizza had a lone restaurant in Oroville, CA. It was an hour drive, but I had to check out the place. I have been there three times and will dine there if I am driving north. Each time, the pizza was excellent, with a cracker-like crust and the same pIzza sauce as I remember long ago. I also had their chicken and JoJos. I had plenty left for the next day and it reheats well. I can't find any pizza like this in my huge home town, yet here in Oroville sits this rare gem. The staff were friendly. The place was clean and had lots of seating plus two jumbo televisions. Shakey's will you come back to the Sacramento area again? Sauce was too sweet, and cheese was barely melted, not at all what I expected out of a $25 pizza. The main priority of the staff member working the counter was telling everyone when the salad bar closed and reminding everyone that they had "X" amount of time left. I loved Shakeys as a kid and was really bummed when the one on J street, in Sacramento closed down. I thought I'd never get to eat it again till I realized there was one in Oroville. They have all the cool arcade games that was the best. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Ninja Turtles, Centipede, Cruisin' USA! And each only 50¢ to play. Yes there's even a change machine, so make sure you have some crisp singles. Anyway, as for the food. All I wanted was pizza. And what I remember having was the Shakey's Special. Or maybe I'd get a pepperoni, since there used to be a reward for students, where they would get a blue certificate that would entitle them to a free personal pizza. But for sure, my fam would always order the special too. And the salad. And the chicken! Before I get too carried away, the pizza was exactly how I remember it. Just delicious! I decided to try Shakeys pizza today located at 2890 olive highway in Oroville California. WOW..what a nice surprise! They had a sign outside advertising a lunch special from 11am until 2pm weekdays. It was pretty busy during lunchtime. I ordered a pepperoni pizza and a one trip salad bar with soda for 11.99. The plate for the salad bar was a decent size with tons of choices to add to your salad. They continued to stock the salad bar. The pizza was bigger than a single slice and the bottom of the crust was perfect! You can substitute the salad for a huge platter of mojos. I noticed alot of people were also getting the fried chicken to go so it must be good! The decor is casual and spacious. They are fully staffed and get the food out quickly! Shakey's and I go way back, back to the late 60s early 70s when us kids would go there for our birthdays This is still a big spot, not just for locals, but for Shakeys fans, making a "pilgrimage.This is the last Shakeys left in northern California, and it is holding up the tradition very well. The restaurant is very bright, and there is a lot of Shakeys "stuff "on the walls.. Unfortunately, this location does not do the lunch buffet anymore so, I ordered a 9 inch "Shakey's special", and an order of mojo potatoes. I tore into that pizza so fast, I almost forgot to take a picture. The moment I bit into that pizza, oh my God... It took me way back to my childhood. The crust was crisp without being burnt, the sauce had a little bit of "tang" to it, and the toppings were plentiful. It Tasted just like I remembered a Shakeys Pizza tasting. It turns out, not only has this place kept the Shakey's recipe since they first opened in the early 70s, they are still using the same pizza ovens! They've had to "MacGyver" them a few times, but they are still running strong. The mojo potatoes were also just as good. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and they had a great flavor to them. I finished my pizza, so I was only able to eat a few of the potatoes. I took the rest of them home, and they heated up perfectly in my air fryer. The price was reasonable. I'm glad this place is still going strong. I will be back again the next time I'm in town. Today was 'adventure day' so we decided to step back in time to a childhood favorite: Shakey's Pizza! This location is the only restaurant left in Northern California! All the rest are in Southern California. The nice ride out to Oroville was a great way to spend an afternoon. Upon driving up we noticed the updated Shakey's sign but above the entrance to the restaurant was the original sign. The memories begin to flood in! There are memorabilia upon entering that will explain the history of the company. There are the arcade games scattered at the entrance that are fun to relive. The inside decor is clean and brings you back to days when you were much younger. There are plenty of tables and plenty of booths. There's a memory case that is a collection of everything from drink glasses and pitchers to small signs and even a license plate. The food is still tasty and delicious! I never experienced their fried chicken or mojo potatoes as a kid; only the pizza. The chicken and potatoes are a must!! The chicken was tender and juicy with a light and tasty crust. It was literally perfect and such a great surprise. The mojo potatos are crack addicting. Crispy, well seasoned and creamy inside! Served piping hot these will definitely make a memory in your food vault. We ordered the pepperoni pizza and it was exactly what we had back in the day, from the cornmeal on the bottom of the crust to the perfect thinness I remember! The kitchen literally has to time the piping hot fried chicken and mojos with a freshly baked pizza!! Kudos to the kitchen staff!! Impressed! If you want to step back in time with some good memories, I recommend a drive to Oroville to the long standing Shakey's franchise in Northern California. We were thrilled to find the decor and vibe very similar to our childhood days at Shakey's. Call me crazy, but we drive all the way to Orville just to get a taste of this delicious pizza which brings back memories of my childhood. The original Shakeys started in Sacramento, CA but now the nearest Shakeys is in the little town of Orville. The only other options are the Shakeys located in Southern California which we always frequent when we head out to spend time with Mickey. They have an awesome all you can eat buffet which is available during the weekdays only which consists of salad bar, pizza, cheesy bread, mojo potatoes, fried chicken and pasta. Although I love their pizza, I always have to get a little of the fried chicken and it is crisp and extremely tasty. My last visit was with my co-worker and her daughter and we ordered the family meal since it was a Saturday and we were shocked at how much food we received for a reasonable price. Obviously we took the majority of the food home. Most of the other diners are from the area and seem to all know each other. But I don't care as long as I can get my Shakeys fix and enjoy a beautiful drive on the way. read more

Went to Shakey's this past weekend after a hike at Table Mountain to see the falls. It has been a while since my family and I had been back since we live almost 2 hrs away. We had our usual - Shakey's Special pizza, chicken and mojos. Yum! They were delicious, even though a little bit on the salty side. 5 stars! Now, a few issues to note: First, during payment, the cashier (nice guy) made sure to remind me that for a tip is appreciated, and that the credit card machine can't proceed without me adding anything. Definitely puts pressure on the customer to tip, considering their staff wouldn't be delivering food to our table... the customers are the ones picking up the food. (-1 star).Secondly, if you pay by credit card, they charge a "Non Cash Fee"worth 3.2% of the total excluding tax (see receipts). I wish I was informed prior to paymeny so I could have instead paid by cash to avoid this ridiculous fee. (-1 star). Lastly, no one cleared the tables after the customers. There were 5 tables around us with tables which had weren't bussed, and they weren't that busy. (-1 star) So, that's why they get 2 stars from me. Will I be back? Probably, because this is the only Shakey's closest, would but will be making sure to pay by cash next time. read more
