Tong Fong Low has been a staple in Oroville, CA for over 100 years! Like all food places, some times it is hit or miss but more times than not it's a hit! I've been here so many times I can't count, but we went tonight & I decided I'd do a review! Everything was fresh, didn't take too long and the staff was friendly making sure we had water at all times, etc. My family is a big fan of the special plates as they are affordable and give a variety of items. Visited November 29th..see my receipt as always. Although not one of my favorites anymore they still have good wor wonton soup and the best prawn appetizers! It was a cold day so my friend and I came in for lunch. She really wanted wor wonton soup! The beef in the wonton soup was a bit tough. The rest was really good and enough for 2 people to share ( plus leftovers ). It was slightly busier than last time but still relatively empty than how they used to be in the past. I have ordered from TFL many time for 20 yrs.They must have a new cook. All the food was bland and either had too little salt or was over salty. Crab Rangoon wontons were all soggy. Fried rice was over cooked and chewy . Chicken with mushroom was overcooked , tough , salty and bland, tofu was bland and the broccoli was old and tough. I spit it out. The seafood should not smell fishy . The bell peppers were just big huge hunks. Big hunks of bell pepper do not belong in Chinese food. . Ordered for delivery at about 5pm New Year's Eve, received delivery about 6:15 pm I ordered 2 orders prawns requesting they included hot mustard Aso ordered a egg Foo Yung which came with fried rice. All the food was cold And there was No hot mustard to have with the prawns. It's not the first time hot mustard was left off. And 60 bucks for cold food is unacceptable. Was in Oroville for over a month and the people I stayed with kept raving about Tong Fong Low. So, one evening we did take-out for dinner. First - our order was not correct. However, we waited so long for this order that we just took it. We sit down to eat and were so disappointed. Noodles were mushy, vegetables were overcooked and there was very little flavor. I look at the other reviews and wonder if we didn't have the "A Team" in the kitchen. Oh well, we have no reason to be in the area again so this will be our one and only experience. read more

I was very disappointed with this restaurant, we went two days ago and it was not good. All the food was tough, even the prawns were inedible they were so tough! The sweet and sour was like eating gristle, it just never broke down. When we said something they just ignored us. I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK. So I do.. and he goes onto tell me what he said I said. I told him why would I order that and why are so sure that your correct and I'm not.. when I'm telling you what I order. And why when you weren't even the one that took my order and was helping someone else out. And now what make what you say trump what I said I ordered..he goes on to say there's no way we will ever no and how did you want us to fix this I said what are my options he said we'll if your not coming back today we will give a credit I was oh okay.. that might work but then as quickly as he offered it he changed it to but only a half a credit. It was my first time and I ordered plain egg fu yung with fried rice. It was delicious! They served four giant patties with plenty of gravy and tasty rice. I got 3 filling meals out of it and felt good afterwards. I highly recommend this place as the best Chinese restaurant in Oroville. (Yes, I explored the others). Go early because it gets busy. I never liked the food and have been eating here since 2010 with my husband when he insists on eating there. It used to cost $8.99 for a dinner for one, but the sweet and sour pork skips the pineapple, onions and bell peppers. The pork is tough and grainy but what's even worse is the fried rice. I'm not Asian, but I could cook it better and it wouldn't cost me just under the twenty bucks. Guess I should just drive to Sacramento and eat at Wonderful Chinese on Sylvan Road. read more

Been going here for 30 years and it's been going down the toilet in recently. The food quality and consistency just isn't what it used to be and the serving staff doesn't seem to care anymore. Many of their plates are way too salty now and they charge automatic gratuity (tips) calculated on the after tax amount. You don't tip after the tax amount and you should inform the guests it's going to be charged before they order. read more
