This place is great! I'd never done CrossFit before and had the typical reservations (what if I'm the weakest, what if they judge me for not being able to actually do a pull up, what the heck is a clean, snatch and who are you calling a jerk!!)... BUT it's probably the friendliest gym I've ever been to, more of a community of people wanting the same things. The coaches are great and will spend time telling you how to perform specific movements and workouts and know how to adjust them if you need to. It's basically the cheapest 'personal training session' you'll find! My advice, give it a try! read more

I recently relocated from the East Coast and was looking for a box that was welcoming, friendly and would push me to the next level. 1. The coaches: just FANTASTIC! Very knowledgeable and friendly. They make sure you feel very comfortable and help you with the movements. 2. The people: LOVE the community! You find people cheering you on and encourage you during the WOD. They make it fun to come to class because you don't want to miss out. One really feels like part of the family here. 3. The programming: it's AWESOME!! I'll admit I was skeptical of doing CrossFit, but now I'm hooked. My first experience doing a WOD at another box wasn't the most pleasant experience. Wanting to give CrossFit another try, I discovered that the Fashion Island Lululemon had a promo that included a 1 month free 5 am class for a month at CrossFit Vibe. Now don't get me wrong, 5am sounded ludicrous and I struggled initially. Now I'm a regular at the 5 AM class at least twice a week. The programming is great and the WODs can be fun yet challenging. The coaches are always encouraging yet helpful at the same time. Having been a member for 1.5 years I have enjoyed the coaching and overall community. One could say I liked the Vibe. Ha! I absolutely love CrossFit Vibe. I always think about writing a review but just haven't gotten around to it. Now going on two years as a member, I can say without a doubt that my life has been forever changed as a result of deciding to join this gym. Check it out, you won't be disappointed! THE SWITCH Though I did like my previous gym, it no longer worked for me in terms of my own personal expectations / needs / requirements. I tried out nearly every other CrossFit gym within a 10-mile radius (that's a bunch in Costa Mesa / Newport) and saw the full spectrum of options. In the end, CrossFit Vibe had - by far - the best vibe. The name is well-suited for what one will feel and experience. I spoke a lot with one of the owners, Jeff Norcross, a bunch before joining. The poor guy, I grilled him to death with questions! I checked out the gym on three separate occasions, under three different coaches, at three different times...I don't take researching my gym lightly. He was always happy to talk with me and I never felt pressured. COACHING There isn't one bad coach at this gym! Seriously. Each has his/her strengths and specialty, and yet there is clear uniformity to their methodology. Every one cares about their role and wants to enable you to be the best you can be. CrossFit gets a bad reputation out there due to bad coaching and bad decision-making on the athlete's part. I've never been pushed to handle more weight than I should. In fact, if I'm too gutsy with my weight load, they'll make me take weight off! Safety and athlete well-being is that the forefront, which in the end, gives me more confidence in what I can do and allows me to progress better than trying to train with too much weight too soon for my body's current abilities. SCHEDULING / PROGRAMMING Vibe has classes seven days a week! Several time slots available, so I never have to be stressed about missing a class in case something comes up. Time flexibility is huge for me. Programming is very deliberate and thought-out. The coaches do the daily workouts with you. They know what you're feeling and also know how to shape future classes because of that first-hand experience. The workouts are hard, but in a good way, not so scary that you wish you'd never stepped foot in the gym. I've gotten so much stronger and have documented progress on gains I never thought possible! They also have a bunch of "extras" going on, like a running group, barbell club, yoga, side training on certain techniques, help if you're training for a competition. It took me a while to get out of the habit of asking "How much extra is it for that program?", or, "What's that going to cost me?", because everything is included! I never feel nickel-and-dimed at this place. It speaks volumes to their apparent people-centric business philosophy. Even coaches who aren't "on the clock" will approach me to help correct my form or give me a tip. It's incredible! I don't feel like a dollar sign or customer here, I'm an actual person getting help from other people. It's a community. PEOPLE Say what you want about a training facility, but in the end, you need to feel comfortable with the people around you when working out. The people working out alongside me every day are there to work on them. It's a place I can be myself, never intimidated or judged by other people. It's not an insanely competitive gym, rather a healthy "let's push each other" challenging kind of place. I have never felt put down, only lifted up, even - and especially - when I'm the very last to finish the workout! There's also a huge social element to this place. We don't just work out together but hang out together. None of that stuff really mattered to me when I joined, and yet that's actually one of the most valuable things I gained by becoming a member. I came looking for just a place to work out and inadvertently discovered a whole network of awesome friends. OTHER RANDOM, IMPORTANT DETAILS Parking is never an issue, there's plenty. Yay! They have showers. Yay again! The location is just off Bristol and Red Hill in Costa Mesa, very close to the freeway. They have enough equipment to go around and the gym itself is big and spacious. It's very clean, something I have found is not something to take for granted! They also have towel service, which is a nice little perk. In fact, it's in those "little" things that CrossFit Vibe seems to shine in and take so seriously (soap and toilet seat covers are always filled, there's a really nice water station, reflective vests are by the door for night running so cars can see you), and we all know it's the little things that take a good experience to a great new level. For any of you looking to try out CrossFit for the first time, looking for a new box or dropping in from another box, you gotta check out this place. 1) The coaches are very encouraging and are all dedicated to their craft and it shows as they demonstrate/guide you through the movements with proper form prior to doing the WOD. *If you are wondering if the coaches actually do the WOD? YES! They do. You can see their names throughout the day at different class times. 2) The programming is well balanced with mixtures of weightlifting/gymnastics/animal flow. Saturday's are programmed with team workouts. 3) The environment in the box is straight up GOOD VIBES! They even have a painted wall that says it! My first try at crossfit. You guys deflowered me. A friend had told me they were having a free week, before opening day and since I've been curious about crossfit, I thought I would give it a try. Jeff is really nice and encouraging and Tien has a body you inspire to have (she had a child and still has a better body than mines, seriously check out her butt.) Definitely be prepare to sweat and run. I never knew what they were going to throw at me. But my peers in my session were very encouraging and I never knew how far I could back squat and they watch you and correct you. It's a team effort you can say. I did like at my second attempt I was able to beat a guy in time (sorry the competitive tomboy side of me coming out.) Sadly, out of my price range especially due to being laid off. Vibe has SERIOUSLY changed my body. I am no super model but I can now roam around in my bikini in Vegas and finally not feel self conscious at all. Thank you Jeff and Tien. I have consistently been going since the end of December and have always worked out and dieted (which sucks). Now I just try to eat as paleo as I can (never hungry) and go to Vibe. Long overdue review. Found a new home box a month ago and I love coming here everyday Coaches are patient, hella funny, and they push you outside of your comfort zone but not to the point where you feel too traumatized to come back, especially if you're a beginner or have an injury. I come and do the workout everyday despite a crazy ass work-school sched cus I have fun and love seeing everyone! Was out of shape for 2 years from a back injury and it was a struggle starting out here first but a month later lost 15lbs. and feel better than ever! This place is one of the cheapest and most quality gyms in the area. It's also one of the only gyms that doesn't make you sign a contract; you can go month by month. I've been a member of 3 CrossFit gyms over 8 years and have visited many, many gyms. This one was by far, my favorite. The coaching is great. CrossFit is hard on your body but you are less likely to get hurt here because they aren't stupid. They scale back the crazy workouts, to keep people safe. The people here are real. It's hard to find real people in Orange County, let alone at a crossfit gym. I was shocked but this place. My husband and I just started going here when my husband lost his job. The owner of the gym said he would spot us for awhile, if we would still like to come. That's just plain nice. We would never accept that but what company in Orange County would even offer that?! I'm not a fan of paying for private gym sessions, but I caved in to CrossFit Vibe - talk about pushing yourself and discovering new limits! I'm a huge fan of BeachBody home work outs, but this has taken over as my new favorite! Working out here has really taught me to take accountability for my progress as well as my diet, the trainers here really push you to new limits. The work outs can be grueling, there are times when I want to give up, but once I finish the work out, the sense of accomplishment is so amazing, I can't wait to do it again and see if I can lift heavier, run faster, finish my work out quicker. The coaches at CFV are helpful and encouraging. They work with you according to your individual fitness ability - rather than pushing you to an unrealistic common standard. My fellow CrossFitters are awesome. There is a great sense of community and positive attitude. I had never heard of CrossFit until I met one of the coaches outside of the gym. After a couple of sessions I was hooked. I began going five to six times per week since June, 2012. Since then I have lost 20 pounds, two pant sizes, and become much stronger than I have been in years. My eating habits have improved as has my general mental attitude. Lots of convenient class times throughout the day and plenty of equipment. Class sizes are not too big. The staff is knowledgable and approachable and will push you to challenge yourself. They're the cat's pajamas! But let's be honest, most people crossfit for the community. The people here are amazing! They are always supportive and friendly. No crazy big egos here. Wods, emoms, amraps, oh my! Vibe definitely takes the crossfit experience to a different level. First off the owners are great, they are personable, extremely helpful, and alway available to talk. If you are new to crossfit they take extra time to go over form and make sure your weights aren't too heavy so you can avoid an injury. The next thing is the gym. It's spacious, has two showers, free water dispensers and is safe enough to leave your personal things out in the open. The best thing for me is the fact that the coaches sometimes do the wods with you and they don't show off. They will stick with your pace and make sure you are doing the correct movements, but once you have it down they will blow right past you and show how it's done. WOW... I can't express how great this place is! I normally workout around 4 times a week, consisting of mostly cardio and various exercises. I thought I was in decent shape until my first session at this gym. The trainers push you to your limits and beyond and really help whip you into shape. You are definitely challenged! Normal gym workouts became mundane for me and I know I wasn't pushing myself as hard as I should. If I make it to a Crossfit class, I know I will get pushed and challenged. I have definitely found a new inspiration at this gym to work out more and push harder. Everyone should try this out at least once! Crossfit Vibe is an awesome Crossfit gym with amazing coaches who have really helped take my skills to the next level. The atmosphere is very friendly and as I new person, I was surprised how quickly everyone learned my name. The coaches are really good judges of ability and are able to push you while keeping the workout safe. In particular, their tips really improved my double unders and pullups. Spacious box, great equipment, and very experienced and very nice coaches. There are also some really strong athletes competing at Vibe, but its a great place for those new to Crossfit as well. 35 reviews (as of today) with all "5 Star" ratings - there's something to be said about this Crossfit location to have this many 5-Star reviews on Yelp.....I've had trainers at 24 hour fitness and got nothing out of it....I had memberships at LA Fitness and 24 Hour and didn't have the motivation going on my own (I lose focus)....The only reason why I have a 24 hour fitness right now because of my work schedule. There are some Crossfit boxes there where I didn't feel like I had the right training, and I will keep that to myself because I wouldn't want to publicly trash a box. There are also a TON of boxes that embrace a competitive box approach and they are hard-core. This is not what I was looking for when finding the right location. I am sure many people just starting a fitness routine - or looking to tweak their existing regimine- would agree with me in that finding a place to get a good workout and "look good naked" (LOL) would feel absolutely intimidated in this kind of Crossfit location. However, there are other boxes that are absolutely FANTASTIC! I can honestly say that CrossFit Vibe is the BEST box around. I started out at one Crossfit where they never got to know me, the training wasn't there, could not get a single Double Under or pull up in over a year that I was there (I kept being told that "I need to be stronger" which is not very encouraging), and I suffered a gnarly injury.....At Vibe, I had my unbroken Double Under's and pull ups in less than a month there. They also embrace so many cultures based on what your goals are - they offer something for everyone. They also have a room designated for your kiddos and are fantastic around the young ones (Movie potluck night showing ET? - that's pretty amazing). They also do many competitions locally and host one that's fun for everyone - so if you are both a beginner or a competitive Crossfitter they will support you in whatever your goals are and prepare you for your big day! One of the first conversations that I had at Vibe involved being asked if I had any injuries or anything that the trainers should be aware of, which is fantastic. They also keep a very close eye on your form to minimize the chance of injury. They will also call you on your poor form or if you aren't working to your potential....With any sport you play, there is always the risk of injury, but sport-related injuries (ACL's with football, rotater cuff with baseball, etc). With Crossfit, they always mix it up to minimize the chance of injury. Long review, I know, but I would say, pick a box and try it out - see the dynamic of the environment and go from there.
