Met a friend at Shanahans who frequently raved about their chicken wings. And to be quite honest his chicken wing recommendation was spot on! I will admit I was a little skeptical when driving there. Pub is on Old Dock Road in a wooded section of the closed Kings Park Psych Center property. Looking past the abandoned buildings you arrive at the pub which gives off that upstate, neighborly even home town vibe. There is a large outdoor patio area in the front offering ample seating weather permitting. Inside features a full bar with seating along with high top tables and a small dining area off to the side. Hearing there was some confusion regarding how/where to place food orders we settled for the bar. After promptly being welcomed and getting some advice from the bartender I ordered the Carolina Golf chicken wings. These were the best wings I have eaten by far. These wings were meaty, crunchy and flavorful with that tangy sweet Carolina sauce and are reasonably priced. I'll definitely return and try the other flavors when in the area. One note be cognizant of the deer when coming or going. I saw a few deer meandering about the property while there ( deer can be viewed on the rear property where a cell tower is located). The place was great felt like a homey neighborhood bar in the south. Was not expecting the warm welcome. Atmosphere was nice lots of TVs and great 70s music playing. The chicken wings are as great as all the reviews mention Had (2) flavors. Both were excellent. Very large and flavorful. Will definitely try something else on menu next time. Weather was dreadful but also will check out decks/ patios when weather gets better. The barmaid was nice and friendly when I ordered take out. Equally nice in person. However the quality of food left much to be desired. Medium burger was well done. Menu says it's served on a "large English muffin." This was no English muffin. Try white bread. If these were the "famous jumbo wings," i'd love to see the "not so famous tiny wings." These were not jumbo, but the average size most chicken wings are. The final insult was the miniature container of blue cheese dressing which maybe two wings could be dunked in. I was in the mood for wings and everyone recommends Shanahan's when I asked where the best wings are. Shanahan's is along a stretch of wooded area and gives off an upstate bar vibe when you pull up. There is a large outdoor patio with ample seating and the inside bar area is smaller. It's a bit confusing with the ordering process. We went inside and the bartender ignored us for a while before we got her attention, and she told us food had to be ordered at the bar. So we go to sit down and a waitress then tells us no we order with her. We got 20 wings, half medium/half Carolina gold. The wings are spectacular, crispy and meaty at the same time. The fries were double starched- not my fave but my fam loved them, and the onion rings were also good. Overall we enjoyed the wings and will def come back to try other flavors! read more

I stopped in here for lunch while I was out in the area. I saw online that they had good wings, so I wanted to try it. The wings are legit. They are a nice size, they have a nice crisp texture and the sauce was good. The bar decor is pretty typical of an Irish bar and the bartender was friendly. Working in this area I've kept hearing about the wings here so had to come out and give it a try. A local, hidden gem that has the most outstanding wings I've had possibly on the island. From the service of Paul to the wings, everything was spot on. Paul was not only manning the bar but also took our order and was truly great dude. We were gonna go for 40 wings he advised us to start with 30 and gave us some other advice on the sauces as well and we couldn't even finish 30 that's how meaty they were. It is like a local dive bar but they do have several TVs here as well. The wings were so juicy and crispy. We got old bday, killer and Carolina gold. The killer wings were my favorite, I dominated them. I'm so glad this is close to my job, I will definitely be a returning customer for the wings and can't wait to try other things on the menu as well. Have been hearing about this for a very long time, finally decided to make the commute out here. Very town based feel bar with great TV's all over. Came for the famous wings. All I can say is WOW. They were incredible. The crunch, the sauce, the size all of it was incredible. Some of if not the best wings on Long Island. I also would love to give a shoutout to Paul manning the bar and being a tremendous server. If not for the wings alone I'd return for that service, he was amazing! Overall I recommend coming here for the wings and taking some recs from Paul on a grilled cheese with killer sauce. If you're in the mood for a great wing, this is the spot. read more

A true neighborhood gem with incredible food! Shanahan's French onion soup is hands down my favorite on all of Long Island -- rich, flavorful, and absolutely comforting. The wings are massive and perfectly breaded; my husband joked that the drumsticks look like lightbulbs, and he's not wrong. So this is a hard review- if it were just for the food it would be five stars hands down. Their wings are honestly the best I've ever had - the hype is REAL. Where I'm torn is the issues with parking, wifi (to get an Uber), and takeout. If you dine in know it's super loud, and to try to takeout you can try to call to place the order (when the line isn't busy and assuming they can hear you). If you place in-person know there's going to be a wait, but I promise it's worth it. Price wise, for two orders of boneless wings and a large sweet potato fry it was about $55 including tip I believe. While not cheap, you easily get 2-3 meals from each order, so a good investment especially given the quality. Definitely going into the takeout rotation and will be my go-to whenever I want wings. read more

I've spent my adult life trying to find the best Buffalo chicken wings. An early experience at the now defunct El Torrito happy hour 10 cent wings in the mid 1980's set the bar very high. Well I think I found the place. First of all, this is a Dive. But in the best possible way. Looks like a house built in the 1930's with two adjacent cottages surrounded by the massive abandoned Kings Park Psych facility. It's a sports bar now with tap beer. I started with a blue moon draught with a slice of orange. Zach and I split 10 hot and 10 medium hot wings. They are the largest and meatiest wings I can remember. They were fried to crispy perfection, served hot. Fresca had the burger medium. It was fire grilled and huge beef patty sitting on a tiny (in relation) English muffin which is exactly what you want if you are watching carbs so you can drink more beer. Fries were crispy and good. When I returned hone I read other reviews and it sounds like a place I want to frequent but it's almost a half hour drive for me from Huntington by way of 25A. Nevertheless it's a great place to gather with friends and watch sports. read more

Shanahan's is out in the hinterlands of Kings Park at 515 Old Dock Road. A friend assured us that we would like the garden and patio outdoor sitting area that is right behind the bar. The tables had umbrellas, and there were two small tents. The garden is whimsical, and our friendly waiter Paul with a bit of a brogue said, "The cook put in the waterfalls and a tiny pond. when the place was shut completely down at the height of COVID-19." We are talking about a Super Cook, that does gardening on the side. The Appetizers were so delicious. We ordered Fried Calamari, Quesadillas and the Super Duper Wings. Can't believe just flour, S&P and deep frying can be soooo delicious. There are various sauces. The Jody Burger and FF's were prepared to perfection. The place is super informal. Come as you are. Great place to hangout in the wilds of KP. I do suggest wearing bug spray to ward off the mosquitoes. We had a great get together. Will definitely be back. read more

I've been here many times and loved the food. Yesterday I was there and was very disappointed with my grilled cheese with bacon. It's the first time seeing the new front patio with has magnificent plants in front and around the patio. It's disappointing that there were cigarette buts around the table and dried on tomato sauce near our table.it's a wonderful place to bird watch. Getting back to my sandwich, I ordered a Swiss cheese on rye with bacon. Our waitress never came to say they were out of rye or offer other choices. I received a sandwich of thick white bread with Swiss and bacon only in the center of the sandwich. Why they would do this is beyond me. I had my husband's 40th birthday at Shanahan's and everything was amazing. Deana was great to work with in terms of setting up the party and planning the menu. She was super helpful and answered all my questions throughout the process. The day of the party the space was set up and ready when I got there and Deana helped me put out the decorations and balloons before the guests arrived. Deana and her staff were friendly and attentive the entire time during the party. The food was delicious and plentiful for the party size. I would highly recommend having a party here. My only complaint about this place is that I wish it was closer to my house!! Coming from someone who lived in Buffalo for 7 years (so that gives me some credibility, right?) these are some of the best wings you could ever eat. The size, crispiness, and sauces (although I recommend getting them naked and ordering the sauces on the side for dipping) all make these wings incredible. The place has such a unique atmosphere, both inside and out, and I wouldn't have it any other way. In case I haven't painted a good enough picture, my family and I refer to this place as "Church." So, when my uncle declares he's going to Church on a Tuesday night, we all know he's going to wings at Shanny's. Also, I HIGHLY recommend the annual Oktoberfest Pig Roast - so much fun! Middle of nowhere hole in the wall bar that features ice cold beer and great live music. Also, their wings are incredible and the kitchen always turns out way above average pub fare. They also have a really cool outside firepit on the back patio fit chilly nights. Highly recommended this spot if you're in the area. read more

Strangest place - we walked in and sat at a bar table expecting to order drinks and dinner. There was no waitress in sight but one of the two bartenders was serving the people next to us and others in the restaurant area. She walked past us several times and would not look at us or say anything. No "hello" or "I'll be right with you" - literally nothing. We waited about 15 minutes while we tried to figure out what was going on. Finally, we got up and left. No one said anything or cared. Situated mostly on the grounds of the old mental institute, legends abound about the ghost that inhabits the place. The food is very good as is the pool table. Bartenders are very good. From what I gathered when I was at this hole in the wall bar was it has great summer time potential! Nice open concept structure with cool high ceilings. There's a nice sized bar inside and opposite of that there is a great sit down area with HUGE sliding doors that flow through to the outside for the summer times. TV's in all the right spots, lined behind the bar and in the seating area. Fantastic pool table! The felt on this thing was in great condition for sitting in a bar. They have a dart board as well that it tucked in the corner. When we went there the kitchen was closed (bummer) but we orders dominoes instead haha! From what we heard though and from what the bartender told us the food here is great and the wings are killer so we will be returning to try them! I think I heard the bar tender say that Wednesday night is the night for wings. What I especially loved about this bar was the outside. There is a whole separate bar and seating area in the back of the joint along with a HUGE fire pit. Wait no, let me rephrase that. With a HUMUNGO fire pit. We didn't get to see it in action but I can only imagine!!!!!! The staff was super cool, food is supposedly great, lots of parking and a great indoor-outdoor setup.
