I was very surprised at my son's wedding reception; there was not one picture of my husband and me with our son. It could have been a wonderful family picture to frame and pass down to future generations. He only has one sibling and there wasn't a picture of her, either. Is this how things are done now? I found it to be rather odd. Maybe they lacked direction as to who to photograph. Perhaps they were told to take a limited number of photos because of the cost. I assume the bride's family paid for the photos. I know I'd never hire them. read more

We cannot say enough good things about Shane and Apple Tree Studios. Shane was the nicest, most respectful, and most caring photographer imaginable. If we were to start the process over again today, Shane would be the first call we made to make sure he was available. Shane, and his team, went above and beyond on our wedding day to help make sure we had the perfect day. Literally every image in my home was taken by Shane and Abby, with the exception of my wedding photos (and that's only because we didn't know them then!). If you live in Chicago or Northwest Indiana, they're the best around and amazing people as well. read more

We just got married and cannot recommend Shane highly enough! He was friendly, professional, and put us at ease! He took the lead and communicated well with us and our large bridal party but was also open to requests. We had such a great time working with him and are excited to see our photos! On Oct. 22nd, I contacted Abby regarding a newborn photo session for my daughter who recently had come home from the NICU after being born premature. I requested during the session that I would like our 10 year old son included in some of the photos. Finally, after 6 days I received a response from Abby after I had emailed her again about a date because she had forgotten to tell me that newborn sessions were only done at 9 am on weekdays. Given my original email, with my son's age it certainly was an important piece of information she left out given that he is in school at this time. However, we did make an appointment on the morning of the 5th. The night before our 9am session I received an email from Abby at 9:40 pm stating she had to cancel our session because of a family illness. A last minute email cancellation not a phone call plus all the delayed emails should have been a red flag and I should have moved on, but given her history of being a NICU nurse I felt she was a great fit. I then emailed her again for a reschedule after she did not contact me with my availability for the next week. Three days later from our appointment I got a response that the days I had available were not convenient for her because it was her son's fall break, and she needed to spend time with him because their weekends are always full. I then moved my daughter's doctors appointments downtown to get these precious photos - I obviously had to accommodate their schedule if I wanted my pictures done so we agreed to separate my daughter's photos one day, then bring my son on a separate day for sibling pictures. Abby confirmed our appointment on the 10th for our photo session the next morning at 9, and had sent me the newborn photo guidelines. I then woke my daughter up at 5am the next morning to ensure I fed my daughter early and kept her awake so that she would be sleepy, and hungry for her session as stated in the photography tips. At 8:50am as I am driving to our appointment, I receive a call from Shane stating that they had to cancel my session again due to a family situation. I was understanding, and he had mentioned possibly doing the newborn session along with the sibling photos that were scheduled for the following evening. The following day, with our evening session scheduled at 6:30pm I had not heard anything regarding our appointment so I emailed Abby to make sure our appointment was still on. I heard nothing. I called her, and got her voicemail. It is now 4:30, and once again I am trying to keep my premie awake and not feed her so I can have great pictures the first time around so I don't have to go through this mess again. I then call Shane who states he thinks our session is still on, but will contact Abby who is at the store and get back to me. Ten minutes later, I get an email from Abby (not even a phone call) stating that she does unfortunately have to cancel our session again for the THIRD time and thanks me for understanding. Believe it or not I was frustrated, but not angry. I have previously lost a child, and know more than anyone that family is so important and should come before everything else - and pride myself on being kind and understanding in difficult situations. What prompted me to write this terrible review is that when I looked on their Facebook page they have obviously been continuing to take other in studio holiday sessions and are bragging about their busy day of outdoor mini sessions the same day they cancelled mine.......I have since contacted other photographers and am having a difficult time getting a session due to everyone being booked with holiday sessions. Nothing was easy regarding our Luci's arrival and we were really excited to capture those early moments after finally being home after an exhausting adventure. We now have lost the opportunity to remember those early, beautiful memories in photographs given the time that will have passed. By viewing Shane and Abby's price and portfolio it is very obvious that they are a very talented couple. Unfortunately, talent and business sense are two different entities and I caution future clients to beware for your memories may be missed if you decide to invest your trust in them based on talent. read more
