My wife and I just spent the afternoon with Melanie at Shane Co. We'll celebrate our 10yr anniversary this year and just sold out first house so there was some extra cash available to upgrade her wedding set. We spent yesterday afternoon viewing new wedding sets and diamonds. (Shane Co has a fantastic exchange program for the rings. They'll give you full price if you buy something 2x that price.) We finally settled on something and made our purchase. When we got home we noticed there had been an error and the value they gave us for wife's engagement set was less than it's true original value. This was good news cuz we had additional value. But bad because now we weren't falling within that "spend 2x the original value" threshold. We went back. My experience at Shane co has always been a positive one! I have a beautiful men's black sapphire ring from here. I brought it into the Portland store to have it resized and re polished (it had been way too long). I live in Los Angeles and was only going to be in the area for the weekend so it was urgent that they get it done for me before I left back to CA. When I came back to pick the ring up just before going to the airport to head home, I see that they did the wrong finish on the ring. I was in a panic and almost had a freak out. This is where Spencer came to the rescue. Not only did he reassure me that my ring would turn out perfectly fine once they re-did the finish but he said they would fix the problem and send it to my house free of charge. I really hate the voice of Tom Shane. For years, whenever I'd hear his voice on the radio would I scream, "Shut the hell up!" and switch the station as fast as I possibly could. Sometimes would I change channels only to hear his dull drone on the new station. I always swore that I would never, ever, ever EV-ER buy a diamond from Shane Co. Tom Shane was no friend of mine. And I've kept that promise. But when my son was buying an engagement ring, he found the ring he wanted at Shane Co. Naturally I had to go along with him to make sure he didn't get ripped off. Rather than say that I was wrong about the Shane Company, I will insist that Tom Shane is a terrible spokesperson for this great business. The store was well-staffed and full of little perks like a great coffee/hot cocoa machine and loner umbrellas to keep us dry in the parking lot. Wow! I really liked this place. Shopping there was a surprisingly positive experience. The sales associates were knowledgeable and super helpful. I don't think they work on commission. They walked my son through his important purchase and took a lot of time to make sure the ring fit into his budget and would be one that he and his wife would be happy with. And they certainly didn't try to rip him off. Who'da thought that with all that money spent on constant annoying advertising that they'd really be such a great place to buy a diamond! I came into Shane Co. knowing pretty much what I wanted, but not exactly. I knew I wanted to buy a diamond for a ring, NOT a whole "bridal suite" or "engagement set" or whatever they call it these days...and Shane never tried to sell me anything other than what I wanted, which means they listened to me when I told them. That, I've got to say, was awesome. Also, since the engagement was to be a surprise, I went to Shane dressed in grubby Carhartt's and an old sweatshirt, under the guise of going to do some volunteer tree planting (which I often do on Saturdays, just not this Saturday). Didn't matter; I was still given lots of attention and respect by their salespeople. I spent a lot of time (and the salespeople's) inspecting several diamonds, going to different rooms and seeing them in different kinds of light, and was never pressured to "step it up"...in fact they kept encouraging me to take my time. When I finally found the diamond that was perfect for us, the people at Shane helped me get it on the ring I wanted efficiently but carefully. I had a good experience, but even more importantly I ended up with exactly the diamond I wanted. Almost a year later it still pops and flames even in relatively dim light. Someday I may go for a more elaborate ring setting, especially if I ever find a girl who will actually say yes to marrying me (just kidding...we are happily engaged at the time of writing!) but that diamond really means a lot to us. read more

Shane Co is to a quality jewelry store what Winco is to New Seasons (but I actually really like winco). My bf and I came here as our first stop on what I imagine will be months of browsing engagement rings and wedding bands. We were greeted right away and the salesperson was friendly, but pretty unengaged. Each employee is helping around 3 customers at a time, and whenever one of those customers (assuming it isn't you) indicates they are close to purchasing an item, you are left alone. It was a really bad customer service model. Also we were told that every single ring in the display cases in the whole store is A size 6.5. I find this very hard to believe (and not just because my ring size is bigger than that and I was annoyed). The salesperson indicated he could take some of the rings I liked into the back room and check if they had other sizes. I guess he got distracted by another customer, because 20 minutes later he came back to us and said that if I wanted a size bigger than 6.5,I'd have to put a downpayment on the ring and come back once they'd adjusted it. I suppose this is a good option if low cost is the driving factor in your ring, but if you want more than that (as I do), then there has got to be a better option. read more

Experience at Shane Company was very nice. Came here to get my wedding band for my upcoming wedding. I decided that I just wanted a simply gold band and thought Shane Co. would be the best place to get it. We walked in and were surprised by the huge space that this store has. They really make you feel like you're special and that this is an important experience for you. We were greeted by a woman who looked like she had been doing this for a long time. She did a good job of explaining the difference between the regular rings and the comfort fit, how the sizing worked, and offered good advice. She cleaned my fiancé's ring while we looked for mine too. Shane is nice because you get a lifetime warranty on the ring, can come in and have it cleaned anytime, and resized if your fingers get fat. My partner and I are planning a low key wedding in Vegas or a courthouse. I took my partner in with me to browse and to get his ring size and we were helped by Donovan. We had some jewelry to trade in and he explained the process to us, took the time to write everything down and give us all the info we needed. I thought I knew exactly what I wanted from looking at the website but when I tried on the engagement style ring I discovered because of my profession it might be a little too tall. I was worried about damaging it. Jason was super patient with me and let me try on all kinds of rings until we narrowed down what I was looking for. I told him that I didn't have a whole lot to spend out of pocket because we were saving for a vacation to see our families. The things I had to trade in made it even more complicated. After at least an hour of trying things on I had the rings that I wanted. Jason thought that I might be spending about $200 out of pocket. I asked about layaway and he said that was not a problem. Then he went back and made sure my previous jewelry was carefully assessed. When I got up to the payment area I met Samantha who was very cheerful and friendly. She helped me fill out the paperwork to sell my gold back. Jason came out and gave me the final price. They ended up bumping up the price of my trade in items and I ended up paying $17. I couldn't believe that I would be able to walk out of the store with our new rings that day! It made it even more special because my partner asked me to marry him a year ago and having rings to present to him exactly a year later made it official. I want to give a special thank you to Jason for being so patient, working with my ultra small budget and doing the math over and over again making sure I was getting the most out of what I had to trade in. He understood what I wanted and pointed me toward rings that suited me until we got down to 3 settings. Then we picked out different stones and different cuts until we found the right combination. He listened to exactly what I wanted and I love everything about our new rings. I hope that Shane Co. recognizes his superior customer services and professionalism. As for the shopping experience itself they really do have some special things. There's a silver and gold ring meant for a canary diamond that I can't get out of my head. There was a man there picking out a spectacular ruby engagement ring that was absolutely stunning. After posting my brutally honest review I was contacted by Shane Co and told the manager would like to follow up with me about my experience. I was expecting to provide him with more detailed feedback so he could provide coaching to his staff, however Ethan the manager took it a step further, and invited me back into the store to personally assist us. We agreed to come back in but I was still very nervous and wasn't entirely sure what to expect. Thankfully all that faded when we met Ethan. He was not only kind and professional, he was also prompt and in a short while had found the setting I had fallen in love with and a Kentucky blue sapphire to go with it. He even honored the original offer of a $500 trade in for my existing ring. I was truly delighted to be getting the ring of my dreams at a price we could afford. We had gone to other jewelers and had even purchased another ring only to return it because it didn't stand up to what we had seen at Shane Co. I go every once in a while to get my ring cleaned and they inspect the ring every time to make sure that the setting and prongs are up to their standards. Wow! I am very pleased with Shane, Co and especially Chad Holton in Beaverton. My husband got my engagement ring through Shane in 2005 and we got the wedding set there too in 2006. Just the other day he was reminding me to go get my ring cleaned and inspected and when I got it out, I realized there was a stone missing, gasp! After having a heart attack, I took it in today and Chad took great care of me. Because it is a little intricate, they have to find the right stone to fit and they don't have one in the company right now. He's sending it to their stone specialist and he's going to make magic and find the right one for my set. :) I could not be more relieved and happy to know that the money we invested was well spent and that they take good care of their customers. They are serious about the lifetime warranty on your stones and that alone makes shopping at Shane worth my time and money. In any business if the character quality of the employees, and the store's standards are below average there are many other businesses which can provide you the service you need. Upon looking through other reviews here I've found that this store is a perfect example. The dishonesty of the employees, and lack of attention to true integrity proved to me that you'd be better off looking elsewhere. This may explain why they spend so much on advertising. I bought a beautiful diamond wedding ring online, but it was a size too large. I called around, and they claimed to offer the best opportunity to resize (free). Obviously I would assume that they would keep the extra gold from shrinking it down a size. They informed me that they could only do it for free if it was one of their rings. I've always found it's best to evaluate a business by their true judgment of a person. I walked into their store wearing shorts and a t-shirt on purpose. Obviously, I wasn't intending to impress anyone there, but depending on their attention I intended on spending $1,000 in cash to buy my fiancé her wedding band. After they informed me that it would cost some money to resize it I was still curious as to how much it would cost. They took it into the back to "have it evaluated". Upon coming back they informed me that it would cost $270. It had "a thin band which needed to be reinforced". Knowing that the price of an ounce of 14k gold is about $750 I was almost curious enough to ask how many grams they intended on adding to the band. It seemed very obvious that they had no intent of being honest with me, and because of my appearance they weren't interested in an additional sale. I got my ring resized for $25. It's beautiful, still very strong (despite what they thought), and fits perfectly. My fiancé loves her new ring that we purchased from Kassab (K Jewelers), and we are very pleased that we found a company willing to look past outward appearances to appreciate the value of a customer. They wanted to help us no matter how much money it seemed we had in hand to spend. Thank you for judging this book by it's cover Shane Co. I bought the loose diamond for engagement ring here in May of last year liked working with sales people as much as any of the other (~10, only the woman from Joe Kassab at Clackamas TC was better) places I visited during the hunt. I don't think the sales people work on commission, so I didn't feel pressured at all. Oh, and they brought me chocolate chip cookies. :) They also had a room in the back where there were a bunch of windows and special lights, so I could check out various diamonds under natural light. I'd say the biggest plus with shopping at Shane is selection. They have a ton of diamonds right there in the store. The prices are very good, too. I think I could have gotten a similar price elsewhere, but they would have had to order the diamond from somewhere and I'd have to come back to see it. At Shane, they had everything right there. The only downside for me is that their selection of solitaire settings was not very interesting. There wasn't anything very unique, so I had to take the diamond elsewhere to get set. read more

The red head and I have been talking about taking the plunge for a few months and when I asked recently what was holding him back, he said since I don't really wear much jewelry he didn't know my taste and didn't want to bomb with a ring I didn't like. So we decided to go check out some stores so I could point him in the right direction. I'd heard so many positive things about Shane Co. that's where I chose to start. On the drive down I was seriously worried how we'd be treated we have a very humble budget and we look more like extras in a 70s biker exploitation movie than bauble shopping folks. At best I expected to be laughed out of the store with our budget and at worst the emergency alarm would be sounded upon our arrival as clearly we had come to clear the place out. Neither happened. Katie treated us like VIP clients from the get go and seemed genuinely interested in us as a couple and to help us find the perfect ring. I literally had no idea what I even wanted and kept saying I liked simple. Katie seemed to be able to read me pretty well and must have noticed my eyes kept wandering to more elaborate vintage style rings and realized I wasn't asking to see them because I figured they were way out of our price range. She brought me a ring setting that took my breath away that I thought there was no way could be anywhere near our budget, which turns out was actually under. She also had no judgement with me wanting to go with a bigger diamond with quality loss, because hey, bigger is better and it's not like anyone carries a microscope around in my world to inspect the clarity of a chunk of rock on my finger. Ultimately the ring was a couple hundred dollars over our budget, but the red head and I decided that was ok because the style of ring is beautiful on it's own and doesn't need a wedding band. So really we're saving our dollars in the end. We also weren't in the position to pay the full deposit today and they worked with us to be able to put what we were able to put down today with no criticism at all. That was really cool. And finally, when it came time to put the deposit down my bank wouldn't allow the transaction (because they apparently are a aware I'm not the diamond store type...) and they dealt with us just as respectfully while we worked out the bank of issue - which was pretty embarrassing haha. Anyway, I'm glad we trekked all the way out to Tigard, and I'm stoked to be engaged to be engaged. Thank you Shane Company! We recently celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. My husband has learned that its just easier to give me a budget and let me get what I want. I had a particular style of ring in mind and since Shane was close, I thought I'd stop in and see what they could do for me. I was acknowledged when I walked in and soon after was asked if I could be helped. I told the gentleman what I was looking for and he basically told me that a) they didn't have anything like that, b) that it wasn't a good idea (I have similar style rings and they are just fine, thank you) and c) they couldn't help me all in the space of about 2 minutes. They didn't offer design services, didn't offer me any alternatives, just "nope, don't have it." Well, guess you won't be getting a commission on my $5k budget. She was so sweet and gentle with my somewhat fickle and rather indecisive purchasing habits, and built great rapport with me. She helped me through my decision in a methodical manner, and spent over an hour with me. Instead of telling me what I should buy and why, she took the time to let me choose it myself. When it came to choosing a stone, she was similarly informative and personal. Instead of getting a lecture on C-words and why I should spend more, she got my general range and requests and provided me with several options and took the time to demonstrate the "character" of each stone. My boyfriend and myself visited this store on 11/3/2018, I knew exactly what I wanted but we wanted to take a look as a couple and see what we liked together. During the first 45 minutes we were there we were not greeted or approached. Once we were greeted we were asked if we've been helped, we said no and he apologized. We asked to view a few rings and ask several questions about price, options and warranties. All went well. We picked a ring but my boyfriend wanted to come back and buy it on his own with a surprise on the stone. It didn't end there. We were pressured for a long amount of time about why we should buy it right now, even given every reason under the sun why we needed to buy it now. No one wants to be pressured into an engagement. I went into buy a replacement wedding band and the salesperson showed me a topaz ring also, which I decided to buy also. I had such a great experience that I went back did the rest of the pieces of the topaz set. The salesperson on the second trip asked me why I was getting them and I said I just liked it and got it in addition to the wedding band to which she responded that I was "creepy". She didn't show me the earrings to the set and had the necklace rung up before I could even ask about them. I ordered them online for pick up the next day, so I know that had them. She insulted me and then rushed me out. A stark difference from my first experience and sadly my last. I wish every salesperson was like the first one but being insulted half the time isn't worth the drive. read more

I have to say, Shane Co has given my fiance and i some of the best service. We are both in the service industry so its hard to impress us, when it comes to kindess and customer service. Will (Sales rep) at Shane Co made this process super easy for us. I came back to get my diamond set in the setting further down, after 30+ days of wearing it as it was (i kept hitting it on everything) which i wasnt sure if that was an option or not. I called the day before i was going to come over there, as i was nervous about maybe having to change out the setting to something different. BUT, not only did they set it in the setting further than i thought would be possible, but it was without hassel or charge, and they got it done in TWO days!!! I couldnt be happier.
