Food okay, service wasn't the best. But could be much worse. The staff was friendly. Clean

They have their own quirks (pay first, refill drinks by putting a sign on the table, warehouse setting/decor), but service is excellent and friendly and only there when you ask for it. Restaurant serves a lot (hundreds) of people, so the lines can be long - but I've never had that long of a wait. If you can manage to go around 4:30-5:00, you have a better experience. A great place to eat yourself into a stupor. :)

People dropping food into other food dishes, things dropped on the floor and left? Then on more than one occasion, every table was dirty and we had to go find a waitress to clean one off for us. The poor waitresses that do show up are severely overworked! We brought out of town guests with us tonight and it was honestly embarrassing! This USED to be a great place and one of our favorites but there is no way I would recommend it the way it is now, which is sad. Its like the owners have lost interest in it. They used to come around checking with everyone. Now you never see them. Before Covid, there was two bars running and lines out the door. Never has regained its former glory. I hate to see it go down because its the only place I ever liked to eat catfish. Please do better!

Absolutely my favorite place to eat in north Alabama. Friendly service and their food is great!…read moreTheir ribeye is my favorite. The "Southern charm" and a "country atmosphere" on top of the great food makes Woodpecker's a wonderful place to eat. My hat's off to Cynthia (the owner). She works very hard to make it all come together!

I've know of this place for a few years now. I pass through the small community often and see the…read moresmall sign on main highway. I've looked it up and read the reviews and looked at pictures of the food. Today, the wife and I decided to drive down here to try it out. This place is well out in the middle of nowhere. In fact, you drive up and around to the road dead ends into the parking lot. It sits up on top of a hill, which overlooks a couple of ponds. It is secluded, in has many trees around to block the view. The place doesn't look like it's anything special. Even inside, it's not very impressive. Very plain decorations scattered throughout the establishment. However, I'm not there to be impressed by what is hanging on the walls or sitting around. I'm here to eat a good meal, enjoy a good glass of tea and have a very good waitress to see that my service needs are met in a fashionably manner of time. We arrive just a few minutes after opening time at 5pm. There are already several cars parked in the parking lot, with several more coming in behind us. Which is a good sign to start off as a first impression. There are only a couple places to eat in this community, so it wasn't very surprising to see the locals pouring in. We were greeted with a warm friendly welcome and promptly seated. Our waitress was swiftly there to take our drink order and got us started quickly. Our food arrived in a timely manner as well. I had the steak and fish combo. The steak was so tender you could stick the fork in it & pull a piece off with the knife. No cutting was really needed. The taste was very good and juicy. It was perfectly cooked. The fish fillet was very good also. My wife had the steak and grilled shrimp combo plate. Very large shrimp that was very good and seasoned great. The side salads were pre-made due to Covid restrictions. I'm sure if the salad bar had been opened up, I would have enjoyed the salad better by my choice of toppings for it. I cannot give a negative mark or review because of Mawmaw Ivey's orders. We also had an appetizer of crab claws, they weren't the best or the worst. They just weren't as fresh and good as we would get at the beach. The only complaint I could really issue is the lack of effort on the waitress not checking back with us regularly while eating and topping off our tea glasses. I will say they were pretty busy though. They had a line of people waiting on a table when we were leaving. I would suggest this place to anyone and everyone that wants to go eat there. They have a lot of great reviews and they were all led to great expectations from us. They didn't disappoint us. Get there before 5 pm on the weekend to get in early and avoid the wait. They packed the guests in very fast while we were there. We enjoyed the experience and we will return here more often.

It was a laid back atmosphere and it's fine to go in casual clothes. Our server Briley was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We got complimentary bread and olive oil while we waited. We got the antipasto as an appetizer, which had olives, feta cheese, and the Italian meat which I forgot the name of. I ordered the shrimp scampi and tiramisu. Scampi reminded me of scampi I got in Destin, Florida. Very buttery and garlicky with a hint of lemon. It had linguine and several succulent shrimp. Tiramisu was great. Had that espresso flavor and it was a nice enough portion. Had chocolate syrup and cocoa dusted on top. Our friend got the lasagna and he devoured it. He also got the Italian cream cake. He's not a coconut fan, but the server talked him into it. Not enough coconut to turn him off of it. He ate every bite and said it was good. My husband got the spaghetti carbonara and added chicken and shrimp. I tasted it and it was very yolky and flavorful. Overall, the food and experience were great. If we are ever in Tupelo again, we will be back.
