We love our steaks at home the best and it isn't necessarily where I'd go just for a steak, but they have an excellent catfish plate! Taking back my previous 5 star review. I just placed a to go order for 2 whole catfish and a side potato and corn on the cob. I arrived home only to find out that there was no corn, no potato just two lukewarm fish and fixings for a non-existent potato. I called back several times and on the sixth try someone answered. I explained the problem and was told oh we will give you one on your next visit I asked how I could assure this and she just said we will give you one. No attempt to take my name or ask me how far I lived and whether I wanted to come back ( I won't). I therefore paid 20.00 plus my tip for two pieces of lukewarm catfish and some sour cream and butter. Shame on you! Will never make the mistake of returning again. I drove back to the restaurant just after closing, and knocked, the door was locked and no one answered. I'm throwing the fish away and please don't ever rely on them for customer service or quality control. Where's my food! And if not to beat all my bill was 20 and the online menu lists this item at 15.95. So how much is tax????? Stay away until the staff or someone gets trained. Update: Spoke with manager, no reasonable resolution. The menu problems are "out of their control" allegedly "old pricing"???? I will only be allowed to receive my sides the next time I come in or order takeout. Soooo I just gave them 22.00 of my money. i reserved a room for my sister birthday. When we got there there was another party x large group there. The restaurant didn't tell me that was they didn't not tell me another group would be in the same room. People were sitting at our table. it was packed and over crowded. We couldn't enjoy our family/friends from the loud noise coming from the other tables. we should have been warned another group or groups of people was going to be in the same room. First time we have eaten here in years. We came with friends who had also not been there for years. All I can say is "Rubens is back". All 5 of us enjoyed our meals. The catfish was cooked just right, the steak was perfect as was all the sides. Between us we had the turnip greens, fried okra, corn, baked potato and sweet potato. All were cooked just right. We had probably the best catfish we've ever had. The fish was just lightly coated with a very thin non greasy crispy coating done to perfection. We started out above in the bar area. Everyone was so friendly and the view of the river was added plus. Thursday is crawfish day and it's a very popular day. We ordered our meal upstairs and they served us up in the bar. My wife and I came here for an early dinner as we've heard it can get crowded. We arrived about 4:45 and were immediately seated at a window table with a view of the river. Our waitress took our drink order from a short beer list (and Pepsi products), and we ordered an appetizer of Fried Mushrooms. She quickly delivered our Bud Lights and said "let me know if you have any questions and when you're ready to order dinner." That was nice because there was no rush and we would have time to eat some of our appetizer before the entrees arrived. My wife loves catfish, and she ordered two fried filets, a baked potato, and because she's crazy, subbed out her salad bar trip for a side of fried okra - which you are able to do without charge. I opted for the small ribeye with a side of steak fries and the salad bar (one trip). As soon as you order, you can hit the salad bar, which I did. The only lettuce offered was chopped iceberg lettuce, but they did have a pretty good assortment of additional toppings/salads (macaroni, potato, slaw)/cheeses/pickles. There is a giant vat of ranch dressing and a couple bottles of other dressing options. The fried mushrooms came out hot, juicy and with a side of ranch. They were $7.95, but worth it due to the large quantity and taste. My wife's catfish came out pretty lightly breaded with cornmeal and pretty tasty for catfish. Her baked potato was steaming hot and served with a container of butter and tube of sour cream. The fried okra was fried okra (you either like that stuff or you don't). She also got two hush puppies, which were crispy and flavorful but just a bit doughy. My small ribeye came out, and looked great. I ordered it medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. Nice grill marks and some charring on the steak, and very juicy. Very well executed. The steak fries were pretty good, and I asked for some Heinz 57 to eat with them (not for the steak). Definitely recommend this place if you're in Columbus, and we'll definitely return when we come back this way. read more

Yelp didn't exist the last time I ate at Ruben's but it is definitely worth a review. Even though this was in 2001 I have fond memories of Ruben's food and atmosphere and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. This was a popular hangout for the guys in my flight school class (SUPT 02-05 for those who know). We would visit at least once a month for catfish and beer. First timer. I had never been to Rubens, heard good and bad but thought I'd give it a try. Finding the place was easy, turn onto Moore's Creek, go to stop sign and there it is on the left. However, that's when it also became disappointing, a driveway that was more of a moonscape, filled with potholes and broken pavement that appears to have been like that for a very long time telling me maintence wasn't high on the list of necessities. Finally made it to the parking lot, figured out which door to use and was met with another surprise, right there on the door is a notice, those paying with debit/credit cards will be charged an additional 4% to cover the cost the buisness usally pays, not the consumer. Tacky, I could see that if it was a roadside 3 dollar hamburger joint but at 26 dollar plates this just seem tacky and uncalled for. Once inside it became much better, the wait staff is very friendly, didn't have to wait and was given the choice of booth or widow seat, we choose the widow seat. Service was great, servers were quick and friendly, always checking on you to assure satisfaction, order came quickly and correct. One of us had the ribeye and catfish fillets, the other had two catfish fillets, you only get one trip to the salad bar, any additional trips are 1.99 each, they give you small bowls and you can't put different items in them or you end up with a salad bar hash, no plates are available. Ribeye was perfect, catfish was good however one of them was slightly undercooked, but not enough to send it back, overall the food was good. Making a quick stop in the men's room on the way out confirmed my thoughts on mantience, the ceiling above the toilet has started to collapse and fell from an old water leak on the floor above, noticeable mold on the rafters above says it's been like that for a while, not something you want to see on your first trip there. Finally leaving we stopped in the parking lot and saw another driveway going out, it wasn't like the off-road adventure we had on the way in, I'm sure the regulars know about this as we saw two cars leaving that way, wish Rubens would have posted this entrance out front. Overall most things were good, excellent service, food good, parking close to the door. The downside was the lack of mantience, both inside and out, prices are slightly high but the food is good with good portions. Will I be back, probably not, there's something about a poorly maintained resturant that makes me have second thoughts of returning. The redeeming points are the wait staff, some of the best I've come across. read more

For a visit to a predominantly seafood joint, my filet mignon was one of best I've had. They use top quality beef here. It was like buttah, cooked perfectly w/great char & flavor. Can I say the turnip greens are also some of the best ever had. And a trip to the salad bar...which has great 1,000 island dressing...completed my meal. Catfish to die for! That's what we went for and that's what we ate. Whole catfish, not greasy, light meal breading. Waitress was very attentive, view of the water, beer was cold. This is probably the most Southern place on the planet. Not upscale, but great food and service. The portion sizes are ungodly large, so plan on having leftovers. They have a very good salad bar. The service was really good and friendly. The food was not seasoned. The salad was the most edible thing I ate and you can only have 1 visit to the salad bar unless you want to pay an additional charge. I waited with my party of 12 for a table to celebrate my son's birthday for 1 hour and 15 minutes before finally agreeing to be split up in 3 booths. We could not even celebrate together. When then tickets arrived they had the nerve to add gratuity to each of our tickets. There were 4 people to each booth. My ticket went up from $44 to $55. Nevertheless I refused to pay the gratuity.
