I dont understand how the bartender renee still has a job. She shut down the entire place at 9:45. She turned away many customers, begged other customers at the bar to cash out and go home- and i was told at 9:35 to "chug my drink and cash out so she could go home". Local sub shop with full bar and plenty of dining area. 3 rooms: sub shop, dining room, and the bar. Ordered the Vinny Sub, extra jalapeños. It was tasteful, would recreate this elsewhere. Unfortunately, the service was poor. No one spoke when we walked into the bar. We walked over the sub shop side, no one greeted us. They were behind because others orders were wrong. Our order came out wrong as well. When I inquired, the man in the back was flustered and gave attitude. Tossed the receipt to me to show that the jalapeños were not rang in on the ticket. I wasn't upset about it being wrong, I just wanted it to get fixed. They fix it and give it back.. accidentally giving by me a whole different sandwich. So I had to go back and let them know they gave me the wrong sandwich. Ended up getting the right sandwich.. and just left. Food was decent, but service ruined it. My company catered from Shannon's for a St. Patrick's Day party for over 100 people. The whole experience was such a pleasure. Worked with Jennifer and she was so helpful. We got the traditional Irish corned beef, cabbage, and red potatoes, and Jennifer was so flexible in incorporating a chopped salad and salmon to accommodate our non meat eaters. The food was delivered hot and was so delicious. The corned beef was so lean and the presentation was beautiful. We frequently enjoy a meal at Shannon's but had never done a catering order. We were in the mood for sandwiches and decided to check out Shannon's Deli in downtown Lombard. The pasta salad was lacking a lot of flavor. It just tasted like noodles with a little grated cheese on it. The potato salad was alright. I prefer my homemade potato salad over theirs. We ordered two sandwiches as well which were the Italian and American subs that come with a pickle spear. The American sub was drowning in mustard and browned lettuce. The Italian sandwich was very chintzy on the meat. It was a very thin layer of Italian meats on bread. We paid $37 and it was definitely not worth it. I was really looking forward to trying this place and supporting a local business, but unfortunately it came up short for us. We won't be returning. read more

How did I not know this was an awesome dine-in restaurant in downtown Lombard? I guess I thought "deli" more like take-out and not a real restaurant. And it is tucked around the corner from the main road so I only just walked by on my way to take the tunnel under the train and discovered it's huge! I am SO glad I found it! There are only a few vegetarian options but I found the veggie sub and cream of zucchini soup both excellent and filling. The sub comes on fresh bread with a bunch of different freshly sliced cheeses plus red peppers, cucumbers, onion, lettuce and tomato. I skipped the pesto mayo. They offer burgers, sandwiches, salads, subs and soups. Plus plenty of sides and desserts. The counter lady was super friendly and encouraged me to take a tour- deli, dining room, butcher shop and even an upstairs space with an outdoor deck. There is a take-out counter too with some amazing looking desserts including a $5 brownie that is the size of a small cake. Dining room is cute and cozy with tin paneling and a vintage ice chest adding to the charming decor. There was music playing and was quite crowded at 12:30 but was surprisingly pleasant- must have good acoustics as it didn't seem loud. The 3 TVs are on mute which is nice. read more

Today I went with the Reuben and my gf went with the Italian sub no onions. As usual we spilt both. Very tender corn beef, kraut, thousand island on lite rye. Thousand island is weird on its own but delicious on the sandwhich, I think they food processed it so it makes it a bit more watery. I came with high expectations after reading all of 20 reviews, each with 5-star rating. It was getting late and their website said they close at 7pm. Amazingly, they had a Facebook feed on their website where they recently posted that they were opening until 8p that night. How tech savy!! That piece of info got me into those doors that night. After my dinner here, I am happy to add to their 5-star streak. The deli is adorable and is tucked away in one of the alleys in downtown Lombard. Street parking is free and was easy to find. There is both seating inside and outside. The lady working here, I believe her name is Theresa, made us feel more than welcome. She is enthusiastic and genuinely cares for the business and her customers. What a delight to be at a place where the people are happy! Shrimp Po Boy w/side was on special for $7. Since it was towards the end of the day, some of the sides were almost gone and she threw in an extra side for us. How sweet! The sandwich looked and tasted amazing! Cobb Salad - $8 - Big salad, fresh and delicious! The bacon on top was perfectly cooked. The sub and sandwiches on the menu ranges from $5 - $8. Great atmosphere, great food, and great prices. Gee, I wonder what could have drawn me to this place?! (hint: name) Actually, it was proximity to my location today (Lilacia Park) and the fact that my dad and I both wanted a sandwich for lunch. Shannon's Deli met both criteria, and we both ordered the Pastrami and Swiss (on grilled rye, since they didn't have an onion roll for Dad). The hot pastrami was meaty and spicy, but I felt like the taste of the rye warred with it a bit; might have done better on a plainer roll. I upgraded from chips to fries for $1; good choice! Crispy outside, still potato-y inside, and adorned with flaky salt. The deli has two rooms, with some interesting furniture (note the table and stools with claw-and-ball feet) and several (gladly muted) TVs, and then beyond in the next room is Shannon's butcher shop; though closed, the sprightly lady behind the deli counter actually went to get something from there for a customer, so that's service! I ordered the buffalo chicken soup..just a bit spicy but the flavors mingled well. I ordered the sub sandwich with fries. There was an in-house cranberry vinaigrette on it that i enjoyed. The fries were crispy. I finished with the new york cheesecake. The cheesecake was not too sweet, thick, and average. I like this deli because the service is kind and the food is quite good. One of the best deli's I have ever been to! I decided to try Shannon's after seeing it on Yelp one day since I'm new to the Villa Park/Lombard area. The reviews seemed decent and the pictures of the food looked phenomenal. It was a cute little place in the inside, you order your sub like you would at a Jimmy Johns, just go up front and order at the counter. I ordered an Italian sub cold to go with a side of pasta salad. I couldn't wait any longer once I got to the car and opened up my carry out box. The first thing I noticed was the bread itself. I'm unsure if they make their own bread but it definitely looked like it and it made me very excited. I took one bite and I was in love. The sandwich was perfectly dressed with some sort of dressing (I'm assuming Italian) and had the perfect amount of meat and vegetables. The pasta salad was also very good! Nothing super extraordinary, but it was still very good! Nicely dressed again and yummy! The sub and pasta salad were so delicious and I CANNOT wait to come back!! First time here. Decent lunch spot. Ordered a half Reuben sandwich and cup of pozole which was the soup of the day. My sandwich came with a pickle spear. Overall great experience. Everyone is very nice and friendly. Three stars may not be fair since we only had the corned beef sandwich and potato salad. I can't seem to find a real corned beef sandwich anywhere in DuPage County with the exception of Schmaltz Deli. I am from the city and it's important to have real rye bread. I was happy to see it had seeds but the bread was soft and the corned beef very chewy. The potato salad was different and extremely good. I thought I would try their corned beef because someone reviewed as the best they ever had. Everything looks fresh and I will give it another shot with a different type of sandwich. This is a really cute affordable little cafe/deli. I like that you can order half sandwiches and add soups or deli salads for $1-$2 more bc I'm all about getting multiple flavors. They have a nice inside area to eat and also a really cute rooftop outdoor area. I've gotten the Buffalo Chicken sandwich which was pretty good as far as flavor goes but I think I would add some lettuce/tomato or something so it's more than just chicken, sauce and bread. More recently I got the Deli Sliced Chicken as my fiancé's friend turned him onto it. This was really good as-is, but I love anything with chipotle. read more
