I'm always on the hunt for a good eggplant Parm sandwich, but unfortunately, Rosalia's Deli just didn't hit the mark for me. The eggplant was really soggy, and the whole sandwich was lacking that crispiness I was hoping for. It wasn't quite what I wanted. On the bright side, the marinara sauce was pretty solid--not too sour or tangy, and it had good flavor, but the sandwich itself was just missing something. It wasn't my favorite. That said, they do have a lot of other options on the menu, and I'll probably give them another shot. This time around, the only other thing we tried was the gelato, and that was amazing. You can tell it was fresh, and it was definitely the highlight of the meal. The deli has a good amount of seating, but it does get really busy during lunch rush, so just a heads-up. You can pre-order if you want to skip the line, which is a nice option. They've got pizzas, pastas, salads, subs--the whole lineup--so I might come back to try something else, but the eggplant Parm sandwich? Probably not. read more

Cool deli. It's easy to find something good. Rosalia's Deli has a lot of classic Italian salads. Get these in bulk. They also have pizza. Got some stuff for a gathering. It has a lot of salads in here. The one I got was the Artichoke Heart Salad. It's about $9 a pound. The prices aren't low but neither is quality. Has a lot to try and I got to come back here. The prosciutto panini will change your life. It's salty and buttery with melt-in-your-mouth ingredients: ciabatta, prosciutto, pesto, fresh mozzarella, tomato & arugula. When you walk in, it feels very old-school. There's a wood-fired pizza oven to your left where the employees will roll out fresh dough for your pizza. Straight ahead is the counter where you can order. Gelato waits in the freezer. To your right is a counter with awesome cookies and meats. I didn't know what to expect upon ordering, but that panini felt like it was crafted by Michelangelo himself (the ninja turtle, not the painter - it's got true "cowabunga" flavor). My wife ordered the pizza and I only thought it was okay. The dough left a little something to be desired, even though it was great to see it being rolled out fresh. But you can bet I'm coming back to try more panini brilliance. And that prosciutto version is going to become a dangerous addiction. read more

Best Italian sub I've had since I was in Florence a few years ago. Really good. Highly recommend.

I had the Italian beef with sweet peppers and pistachio gelato. She had a large cup of wedding soup and the Italian cookie gelato. We also brought home a large box of mixed cookies. Everything was good, but nothing was memorable. The folks working there were all very nice and helpful. If you are in the downtown area of Elmhurst Rosalia's is a good option for lunch. read more

I called and asked if they had chicken soup because I have been feeling "sickly". I could not find another chicken soup as close to my mother's and she was the original Jewish mom. Which is why I ordered a quart of chicken dumpling soup. It was very good. And I ate half of it and felt much better. I also ordered pizza for my husband and he liked it a lot. We ordered sausage, mushroom , red pepper 16". I had a piece also and thought it was very good. We would definitely order from Rosalie's again. Been coming here for a few years now and I will still say this is the best little deli for lunch or dinner. I sometimes stop here and pick up the lasagna for two for dinner. It's the perfect amount for two people, with a side salad and bread. I will say this and it's the only negative comment I can give is sometimes the salads you get on the side with sandwiches have old wilted and brown lettuce. It's very unappealing , and not sure why they don't notice ???? I still like coming and love that they have a wood fire pizza of the day. It's a great value. read more

I try to giro this little gem any time I get the chance, they are open mostly for lunch hours (although Angelo's next door is related and open for dinner) they have a brick oven pizza that makes excellent pizzas, a huge selection of fine imported Italian meats, cheeses and wines along with premise meals, fresh made pasta and gelato! A one stop shop for sure. Every time I go here I make sure to order the baked French onion soup, they put a piece of garlic bread in there and then melt the cheese in the brick oven! So dang good! The sandwiches are excellent and so are the pizzas, I would recommend this place to anyone and will be returning again. They do have vegetarian options for those so inclined. read more

I have been to a few Italian delis in the area and Rosalia's takes the cake. Proof: I have been there three times in a week for lunch since I discovered it! I have a weakness for interesting ingredients in sandwiches and the Goud-Apple Panini had me at first sight. Arugula is also great in sandwiches. I am currently working down their Panini list: Goud-Apple, Smoked Salmon, Prosciutto are all good; Wild Mushroom, I am coming for you next. Many places only allow half sandwich option with cold sandwiches but you can get half Panini with soup or salad here (a big plus for a soup and hot sandwich person like me). Did I mention their Panini are made to order? The gentleman manning the pizza station seems to be very serious about his craft, who I imagine makes might fine pizzas. I bought some almond cookies home and love them. I read that they have pumpkin gelato but I have not seen it in their gelato bar--bring it on Rosalia's! It's almost winter already. Their chicken dumpling soup was not my favorite (the dumplings are too thick and doughy). The tomato sauce for their Spinach Lasagna was too tangy for my liking. Cannoli was just ok. Prices are very reasonable. Friendly employees. Seating seems adequate. Parking lot is not big but I was able to find a spot every time (during lunch hours). read more

I will drive out of my way for this deli, although downtown Elmhurst is ONLY about a 20 minute drive from my house. Plus, I like any excuse to go to a cute downtown area where I can shop around. Friendly staff. Fresh ingredients. They even have a wood burning oven for pizzas (gluten free available), yum! I've been here many times, but each time I find myself staring at the menu for 10 minutes because I love so many of their sandwiches, especially the paninis, which are all served with a fresh small salad on the side. My Salad fave: *Caprese Salad - not your typical sliced tomatoes, with mozz & balsamic, but rather a spring mix of lettuce, topped with thick slices of tomato, which are then topped with a medley of roasted red pepper, onions, chopped basil, fresh mozzarella, and then drizzled with balsamic and olive oil My Sandwich faves: *Goud-Apple - smoked gouda, turkey, fresh sliced green apple, with sweet mayo *Proscuitto - proscuitto, fresh mozzarella, fresh arugula, tomato, with pesto sauce *Wild Mushroom - mushrooms, swiss cheese, grilled onions, with grain mustard My Pizza Fave: *Grilled Vegetable Experience - grilled onions, grilled red peppers, grilled yellow peppers, portabella mushrooms, with mozzarella and goat cheese Their deli meats and cheeses are comparable to grocery store prices, and I usually stock up on a few bags of their frozen varieties of Ravioli, Gnocchi, or Lasagna to take home for a later time. Here is a place that has been on my bookmark list for quite awhile. It is located on York, a short distance south of North avenue. It is actually part of a building that houses a restaurant which I had ate in a few times a couple years back. The inside is a nice Italian deli with many sandwiches, pizza, etc. to choose from. I ordered an Italian sub to go which the young lady who took my order then proceeded to make my sandwich for me. The sandwich was pretty big but also was pretty good. Now, I think an Italian deli (Serino's) near where I live makes the best sandwiches and other Italian items like a killer pizza. Going there for the first time I inquired if they had an eggplant parmigiana sandwich. I was told "no we don't but our kitchen can put one together for you." WooHoo! Talk about service! I always order order eggplant sandwiches in Italian places so its my standard to compare them against each other. And what an incredible sandwich (see the pic I posted). You could taste the eggplant, sauce and cheese in the generous sandwich. I also got a small container of artichoke salad and an Italian soda. The total was a little over $11 which is not bad considering the artichoke salad is $8.95 per pound. I'll definitely stop by a day next week to try a woodfire pizza. And then there's the Tuscan Chicken sandwich which made Chicago Magazine's list of 50 great sandwiches. Without question this place has the best sub sandwich in Elmhurst. I hate to say this because the place is largely undiscovered and I don't want it to get too busy. I had the Spicy Italian Sub on Friday. The bread was soft and chewy, the oil and vinegar was just right and the giardinera gives it a nice kick. The prices are reasonable compared to any other sub place in town and they don't skimp on the meat or cheese. The sub with chips and an ice tea was a reasonable $8. Try the cookies and enjoy the atmosphere. This is a cozy, comfortable lunch spot. As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. I plan on eating at, and reviewing, every one. This was a great little spot to have dinner. DH and I were headed thru Chicago and wanted to stop and get an authentic "Chicago-style" pizza. We decided to order the Pizza of the Day which was chicken, pesto, and fresh mozzarella. The Deli was nice, clean, and the service was great. The pizza was phenomenal however...if you are looking for the deep dish "Chicago-style" pizza this is not it. They do have a real brick fire oven which creates deliciousness but not deep dish ooey-gooey cheesy pies. I'm giving 5 stars because the pizza was very good and the service was great. read more

A friend of mine suggested we meet at Rosalia's when I was in Elmhurst today. I was instantly impressed when I walked in to find beautiful gleaming cases of amazing treats, delicious deli meats and cheeses, and a wonderful selection of soups, salads, sandwiches, paninis, pizzas, and more for lunch. The prices were really reasonable, and the staff was incredibly friendly. They were willing to modify any order and wanted to do whatever they could to make us happy. They have a great selection of take-home items too - I got some sausage and broccoli ravioli for later, can't wait to try it. And of course, I got myself a cannoli and some delicious Italian cookies for that night. Overall, the experience was hard to beat - amazing fresh food, huge selection, great prices, and a fantastic friendly staff. After a long wait...........Rosalia's Deli (RD) is open for business! In the same building at Angelo's Ristorante... RD's offers your standard Italian Deli fare but with much much more. Have a hankering for pizza? How about pizza cooked in a wood-oven? Sandwiches (Hot and Cold)?, Salads?, Soups? It is here..........and freshly made. Deli meats?, Cheeses? Desserts?, Sauces? It is here......Cannolis freshly made! Gelato? You bet. I tried the wood-oven pizza. Sweeeet Sausage (their speeeelling!) Pizza. Would have preferred the tomato sauce a bit spicier and a bit more of the sausage would have been nice. Crust was light and tasty but could have been a bit more crunchier. As the pizza only takes few minutes in the oven I will ask the "pizzatender" to keep it in a bit longer for me. Overall, though, a nice pizza. I also tried the spicy Italian sandwich (tasty with lots of meat), bought some desserts (don't tell my wife) and brought some artichoke salad home for later. Looking forward to trying the meats and cheeses for my own homemade creations. I tried some free samples of the various meats. Very very good. A San Francisco salumeria named Columbus is one of the meat purveyors. Volpi also provides some of meats. Any other Italian specilaites you need?....They are here.
