Editing and changing to 5 stars: not even an hour after I submitted my feedback, the owner called to apologize. There were some mix ups yesterday and a new person who started. I appreciate him taking the time to do that and providing that level of customer service. I will give them another shot. This was our first visit to this location, and unfortunately the experience was disappointing. I don't think we'll be returning. We had a 1:40 p.m. appointment. When we arrived, two employees were standing at the front counter talking. I mentioned that the self-check-in keyboard wasn't working, and they said they would check us in. We then waited another minute or so for them to finish their conversation before they checked us in. Unfortunately, it appears they never informed the hairstylist that we had arrived. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes until another employee--who I believe was the manager--noticed us. He spoke rather harshly to the hairstylist, telling her that her 1:40 appointment had been waiting. From what I observed, she had no way of knowing we were there because no one had told her. I want to make it clear that the hairstylist, Lissa, was not the problem. She did a great job on my son's haircut. Even though my son wasn't a fan of the lightning bolt design, I thought it looked great. She even comped our haircut at the end, which I appreciated and certainly wasn't expecting or asking for. I hope she knows she did a wonderful job. My frustration is with the front desk's lack of communication and the way the situation was handled--not with the hairstylist, who was professional, kind, and did excellent work. read more

My 3 yr old grandson had his 5th haircut here at Sharkey's Cuts for Kids. We made an appointment for a curly cut. He was not wanting a haircut today! We bribed and begged. We checked in and Lissa would be his barber. They had different cars he could sit in, Lightning McQueen, a Police car, a Barbie car and a Fire rescue truck. He sat in the Fire Rescue truck. She asked him what he wanted to watch on TV, he selected Spidey and friends. She was amazing! His hair was pretty long. She cut his hair slowly with shears. No razor or buzzing. His cut was completely done in about 30 minutes. She did an excellent job!! I recommend her! Thank you Lissa for a great experience today. I took both my kids here and they were absolutely fantastic. They gave my daughter exactly that cut that she wanted and for my son they actually gave him the exact texture cut that he needed for his school pictures so it's not too short but it just looks awesome so I'd love their service and I'm definitely taking my kids back there. read more

UPDATE: The amazing owner reached out to me immediately, and I have to say, he takes so much pride in his business! He explained that it was an especially busy back-to-school season day and that what happened was a one-off situation, which I truly believe. I teach preschool in the area and have personally seen the beautiful heart braids and haircuts they do, so I know the talent and care that goes into their work. He offered for us to come back and, more importantly, really took the time to listen to my feedback. He even called me directly, which I was very impressed by. The yelp reviews looked good so I wanted to give this place a try but I was pretty disappointed in the choppy/uneven result of my 5yr old daughter's first haircut. She enjoyed the experience and felt pampered, and everyone was kind, which is why I'm giving 3 stars. Her hair was only partially dried, and she was given some little side braids that they did at the end, so it was really hard to see how this cut looked until we got home and washed/dried for ourselves. I took my boys here for haircuts, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. My oldest son has special needs and does not like haircuts--we usually do them at home because it often involves a lot of anxiety, screaming, and restraint. I decided to try a haircut with David after hearing how great he is with neurodivergent kids, and it was a completely different experience. While my younger son got his haircut, my oldest was able to explore the salon and get comfortable at his own pace. The entire staff was kind, patient, and accommodating. David used clippers with a vacuum attachment, which helped tremendously. It's also on wheels so he could move with my son as needed. Not a single tear was shed! Took my daughter for her first haircut at a salon. She enjoyed the experience. However the service that was advertised (a hair wash, cut, and blow dry) was not completed. She did not get her hair washed and the blow dry was very minimal. The stylist merely sprayed her hair with water to wet it before the cut. Everyone at the salon was very nice, but I feel there was a discrepancy between what was charged and the value of the service provided. This is just my personal opinion. read more

Hands down the best place for a kid cut! Parents of special needs children, this is the spot for you! If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. Ended up at this location after accidentally booking here instead of the Oceanside location and will now only be coming here from on out . To start off the customer service at this location is phenomenal, 10/10! After realizing I had booked at the wrong location I called this salon to let them know we were running late and they kindly rescheduled us to a later time on a busy Saturday and once we arrived the check in process was smooth, easy and friendly. As a mother of an autistic child haircuts can already be an unpleasant and stressful situation for us and the staff here went above and beyond for my son and our family! At check in my son was nervous and crying and we stepped outside to allow him to calm down a bit, a man who I believe to perhaps be the the owner of this location came outside, offers us cold waters, gave my son balloons and a lollipop and got down on his level to talk him through the process of getting his haircut. He also continued to come outside to check on us every few minutes to provide us with an update while we waited. Once our appointment started, Tracy, the stylist was more than amazing! She allowed us to sit where my son was most comfortable, suggested a location near the rear of the salon away from the noise,and even offered the solution of a scissor only cut when I mentioned my son has a hard time with the noise of the clippers. Throughout the whole appointment walked us through what she was she was going to do before starting, took her time and allowed my son to take several breaks when he became overwhelmed. She was so kind and accommodating! However, what really won us over was the rest of the staff that jumped in to help when they noticed my son was having a hard time with his haircut. The man, who I believe to be the owner brought over bubbles, turned on my son's favorite movie and even sang songs to distract my son and another stylist offered to play with my baby who was getting grumpy waiting in her stroller, so my husband and I could focus on my son for the remainder of his haircut. Overall, this is a business that goes above and beyond for its customers and you can tell they genuinely care. I could go on and on about how great of an experience this was for our family and cannot thank the staff enough for how helpful and accommodating they were. We will be back! read more
