I can't complain about the haircuts. However, the staff is not very personable. They didn't look happy and didn't talk to my kids very much. For a kids place, they're not very good with kids....I mean I guess if you haven't taught your kid to sit still and do what the hair cutter says then maybe it's cool. I found the whole setting very strange. I don't quite understand why there needs to be so many different distraction options. Seems more overwhelming to a kid who might be nervous that now they have people asking them to make choices about where they want to sit, what they want to do, and then helicopter parents who can't just sit back and let them do their job. We had the best experience today at Sharkey's. I have a two and a half year old and it's so hard to get him to focus on anything, but the staff was so wonderful. Jennifer cut my child's hair and did a phenomenal job, even as he squirmed and cried. The rest of the staff was great too. As soon as my son started crying, they came over with toys and bubbles. Our 15 month old little guy had his first haircut with Jennifer today. I was extremely anxious about it because the reason he was getting it, was that he'd been pulling out his hair & created a bald spot. All of my anxieties were eased as soon as we got there. Before even getting in the chair, Jennifer discussed with me what we wanted for our little guy. She was SO good with him, worked fast and kept communicating with me to make sure I was happy with the cut too. His first haircut could not have gone any better & I walked out feeling so much better. She originally chose one of the first cars to sit in but the stylist told her about the princess car and had no problem letting her change cars. They were friendly and did a good job with the cut. We have been there 2x. The staff and stylists are all very nice, but the haircuts have been subpar. I get my son's hair cut shorter underneath, longer on top. I don't care what they use to cut it, but have noticed it is generally done with clippers until they get to the top. The 1st time it was just not blended well, so as it grew out a bit it was incredibly choppy. The 2nd time we had a different stylist, also very nice. My son has stick-straight hair and so again I requested it to be blended. Not only did it end up much shorter than requested, but is also in the style of Dumb and Dumber, a bit of a weird bowl cut in front. Oh and there is a section in front that I will have to fix. read more

We had a bad experience here previously but the owner reached out and we came back. After two good haircuts today's experience will be our last. Every time my daughter has come before they washed her hair, cut it and then she had her nails done. Today the stylist sprayed water on her head, proceeded to yank at her knots (which needed to be cleaned and conditioned) and ignored her when she said it was hurting. She gave an uneven cut and put in a weird braid in the middle of her head and that was it. When I was paying (the same amount as in the past) I asked about the washing etc and was told I need to know to ask for the other services?!?! How would I know that and if it's included why should I have to ask? This is laziness on behalf of the staff and for $25 we just got a crappy haircut and an little girl with a sore scalp. We opted to just hold him in a regular chair. He was screaming and crying the whole time but the hair stylist was very nice successfully cut his hair. First time taking my 18month to get his hair cut, and to say the least it did not turn out good...the sides of his hair was basically butchered and very uneven. I can understand it may be hard to cut a child's hair since they move around and all, but don't say you guys can do it when you really can't. I am still very upset with the fact that his hair will be like this for the next month and I have already spoken to the assistant manager and she was helpful but it shouldn't have turned out like that in the first place. He is very sensitive to those kinds of things, but only when we showed up for our appointment did they tell us she no longer worked there. I took my son yesterday to get a hair cut. When we came out his hair was still long in the front and back and around his ears. I took him back inside to fix it and she did cut it some more. After getting home I noticed that the front is crooked and the back and around ears still doesn't look that good. Will not be going back here. I have used Sharkeys a few times before and will never come again. We drove 15 miles to come here. Both my boys have special needs and the set up there really helped. We walked in at 440pm and there were 2 people working and there was no one else was in the entire place. We were told they couldn't cut out hair because the had an appointment at 510pm, 30 minutes later. I'm disappointed. How long does it take to cut a little boys hair? They lost a customer and 2 haircut sales. I will now be using Sport Clips in the same shopping center, they didn't turn us away and had a Salon full of Customers. read more

The atmosphere at Sharkey's is great, and my daughter loved getting her hair cut there. Unfortunately we will not be going back. She came home this past Sunday with the most uneven cut I have ever seen. My daughter had hair just below her shoulders and all one length. My husband took her to have a simple trim, and when she came home the right side was to her chin and the left side and back were still below her shoulders. They had braided her hair in such a way that it wasn't as noticeable, but as soon as we took the braid out, it looked as if they had cut a random chunk of hair off of her right side. We took her elsewhere to get it fixed, and they ended up having to cut her long hair almost to her chin in order to even it out. I know that hair grows back, but I am not sure how a simple straight trim could go so wrong. read more

My son of 14 months old got his second hair cut here with her and Tasha made it the ultimate experience for him. He did not cry ONCE. He was in a red sporty car with paw patrol on the left and it seemed as though he trusted Tasha from the very beginning. She's a professional and the end result truly shows it. The pricing?? GREAT. It was $5 more than your typical walk in hair salon on every corner. Tasha even made notes for the next time my son comes to visit. The entire staff was extremely friendly and I will not be going anywhere else in the Raleigh Durham area to get my sons hair cut. 5 stars all around. Customer for life!! read more

We came here because my child totally flips out every time he gets a hair cut...Today at Sharkey's was no different-even though he was sitting in a super cool police car that has lights and sirens and everything! (The last time we got his hair actually cut [somewhere else] was in May and it took my husband and myself holding him to let the gal cut his hair and it came out horrible because he still would not let her cut it) However, Celina was still able to work with him (even though he wouldn't wear the cape) and get him a decent hair cut so that he doesn't look shaggy at an upcoming family event. I asked her to cut it extra short so now, in the middle of July, he finally got his "summer" cut. They do give lollipops at the end and the staff worked with me to give him the lollipops I brought (which don't have dyes or HFCS) AND they gave him a balloon plus a super cool shark bath toy. By the end of this experience, my toddler has told me that he wants to come back and he loves his beautiful hair. I don't know how this staff can so calmly handle kids who totally freak out all day-just this 20 minute experience exhausted me! We will definitely be returning-yes, it's pricey but it's totally worth it for us! read more
