There are staff at Sharon Care Center who deserve to be working at a better facility. There are also staff members who are neglectful to a degree of abuse. I was told by night staff that they could not handle the amount of people they were assigned to care for because of under staffing by administrators. They were spreading the nurses assistants too thin in other words. One time, I got a rash all over my crotch area because I was left to wallow in a filthy diaper overnight. My roommate constantly laid in his own feces due to incontinence and neglect. The food they served was paltry and often inedible. The cleaning crew did a perfunctory pass more often than not. The place is dingy. And, that's being kind. I changed my review from positive to negative after experiencing three other facilities. I'm currently at one that is a thousand percent better called Royal Terrace Healthcare in Duarte. It wasn't until coming here that I realized understood what a poor experience I had at Sharon Care Center. An education can change a man. read more

While there are some kind, attentive, and caring staff members, the negative experiences stood out far more and made our overall experience much worse. One night, my family member pressed the call button for assistance getting into their wheelchair to use the bathroom, and no one responded. After waiting about 20 minutes, they had to help themselves and go to the front desk to let the nurses know. The response from the young male nurses was dismissive--they laughed and said, "Only 20 minutes?" Additionally, one nurse (Z) was present and appeared to ignore the situation. During our visits, she was consistently passive-aggressive, which added to our discomfort. There were also issues with professionalism and communication. During intake, a staff member (Z) handed me paperwork to sign but couldn't explain one of the forms and told me to ask another nurse. When I did, I was told the form was outdated and was given a different one. That same night, no one explained what to expect during my family member's stay--not the first night, the first day, or at any point afterward. Since this was our first time placing a loved one in a facility like this, I had to search for information myself and ask basic questions at the front desk just to understand how things worked. That's when I was again given outdated forms. While the location is convenient and the cost may be more affordable than other options, I would not recommend this facility to anyone you care about. The lack of responsiveness, communication, and professionalism--particularly from certain staff members--significantly impacted our experience. read more

I called this facility like 5 times and they pretend to get the department you need to answer your call and after a long wait for EACH CALL approximately 20-30 mins they just hang up on you. I know this is a busy industry but still; They should know better. I work at another facility and I don't have time to wait especially when I'm working on an important case. Now it concerns me how the staff answers the calls when a family member or a doctor of the patient calls. The department of health should visit this place more often especially when I'm hearing about the patient abuse that's going on here. The administrator should keep an eye on how this facility works. Everyone knows that the receptionist is the most important person in the team for a facility since they are the first staff who answers the calls. I can already tell there's a management issue going on here. Don't work at a facility if you only care about money not patient care. It's not about the Medicares you're getting in but the lives you're saving and helping patients to get better at least. This facility should be called Sharon center not Sharon care center because I see no care happening here. read more

I'd like to take the time to review this facility. The nurses name Zee, Amy Jo, and Esmeralda are excellent nurses. They show kindness, empathy, and a desire to make all patients feel at home. They gentle help with the needs of individual patients and go out of their way to do their jobs properly. These nurses are the epitome of what every nurse should be and they have given my mother excellent care and undivided attention as well as other patients in this facility. Edith, Richard, James, and Luis are great CNAs. The administrator that really listen and are easy to speak with are Hana, Jacob, and Jesus. The wounds specialist, Vincent does his job very well and he shows my mom respect and careful assistance with her injuries. It's in a good location ( very close to Cedars Sinai hospital) . Depending on what time you home parking can be difficult but I've managed to find it at different times. It's walking distance from The Grove , Farmer's Market, and Whole Foods . This facility is good but not perfect. It has flaws but if you visit often enough and make suggestions they will listen. read more

My grandmother stayed here for about 10 days recently after her back surgery. This isn't a place where you'll feel comfortable knowing that your loved one is getting the best care. The staff makes it seem like the patients are a burden when they're all literally recovering from major surgeries. patients holler out "HELP!" All day, nurses will yell back, "NO!" We reported this incident. My grandmother was supposed to be walking by the time she left here, but she's barely standing due to their lack of a substantial rehab program. She was supposed to be out of the loop about four times a day, and it was more like once a day. One of the nurses (an Asian gentleman with dyed blonde hair) and myself almost ran into each other, turning a corner, and I immediately apologized, and he gave me the most intense stare for about 5-10 seconds, like he wanted to fight me. It took everything in me to hold my composure. During one of her rare rehab sessions, the PT said he couldn't help her walk. What a pathetic answer and response! The director of this place had to apologize to my family for this overall experience, and now we're taking over her rehab ourselves at home. If you want to understand what is happening with your loved one, speak to them when they can't pick up a phone for themselves or speak to a doctor, nurse, social worker, physical therapist or ANY other professional in the building..... DON'T TAKE THEM HERE! - THEY OFTEN DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE. - THEY NEVER RETURN CALLS. - THEY OFTEN HANG UP, DROP THE LINE OR OUT YOU ON ETERNAL HOLD. - THEY ARE UNDERSTAFFED AND OVERWORKED. ALSO VERY OUTDATED, DARK AND DREARY Here's a screen shot of some calls. Both were times I waited only to get disconnected. It took 7 calls to get ahold of someone to transfer me to the administrators voice mail. Many times they say they will transfer me and they instead hang me up. Other times they pick up and go straight to hang up. In 2 months the social worker occasionally returns me call. There is no one else in the facility that calls or will speak to me. I only left one star because otherwise I couldn't leave a review. But if I had my choice I would make it -20 stars. I had a knee replacement. I was younger than most of the people in this dirty, dark, dank, disgusting, nursing home. I was younger than most of the residents there., so it gave me a chance to get out, I left AMA. I was being over medicated. The food is inedible And unhealthy. There's elder abuse going on there. Old people would scream way into the early part of the morning and they were not tempted to. The nurses, are attendants, were young. I don't think they were there for the right reasons. I even talked to one of the attendants. I said, look, I know you don't want to be here. I know you'd rather have a cooler job. But you are here. And being here comes with responsibility. You have a responsibility to these people. I told him that because it took him half an hour to get ice for my knee. Which I had an ice pack for, all he had to do, was reach into the freezer and get the ice pack. I know that people dump their parents and grandparents in places like this. But that doesn't mean these places have to be like this. It is all minimal at best. And they wanted to keep me there. They said I wasn't ready to go home. And then a doctor kindly told me I could leave against medical advice. The only reason I was there in the first place was because I live alone and after knee surgery you're not supposed to be alone. I was out of there the next day. I don't know how anyone gets well there. They boast that everybody says at a table for dinner. That's not true. They bring the dinner into your room which has three beds in it and leave it there. The physical therapy is disoranized. Some people never get out of their beds. There was a woman next to me, in the bed next to me, who told me she couldn't walk. And she never left that bed. They didn't even try to put her in a wheelchair to take her outside for Sun. Shocking. It's run terribly, there is no real care for these seniors, and I am sorry to see them in such a state of longing instead of a state of grace. Shame on you. Do not park your parents or grandparents in this place. I know almost everyone's on Medicaid. There must be some other place that you can take and or park your loved ones. Don't leave them here. Please. And please do not send me a message. Apologizing for the behavior and treatment at your facility. You only do it. Just make sure it looks like you're in compliance with people who are complaining. Although this is not simply a complaint, it is just the truth. read more

Shameless. Despicable. My neighbor got checked in via a hospital referral (Cedar Sinai) for rehab. She arrived at 3pm, and was left in a room. No staff went over to introduce and tell her what to do or what's going on. An hour passed she walked over to the front desk and see nurses/staff standing around chatting. She asked for an update and they shoo her back to the room. Another hour passed and finally a nurse who's name start with an M (that nurse didn't pronounce her name clearly) came over. The nurse yelled "WOUND?", and my neighbor say "excuse me?" , nurse: "You know what A WOUND IS?" , neighbor: "no, i don't", nurse: "I don't believe you, take off your clothes." My neighbor was immediately on the phone with her family and got her checked out. Every patient on site seems drugged up and emotionless. read more

The most poorly managed after "care" center I have ever come across. My mother has been an RN for over 30 years so I have extensive exposure and knowledge of when care is administered well and by people who door their job well, and when it is not. Unfortunately this place is not only poorly managed but the staff is comprised of temporary staff and regulars who it is apparent do not care about the quality of care they give. An elderly woman I met while trying to help her with her cat, got sent to this god awful place after being discharged from Cedars Sinai. She is 90, has no family or friends and was helpless. I felt compelled to help her after I saw the horrible state she was in after being moved to this poor excuse for a center. She ended up with bed sores, and lost 10 pounds. I was deeply concerned that if I didn't get her out of this place that it would be a death sentence for her. She complained of being yelled when asked to use the bathroom and would go 6-8 hours in a soiled diaper!! I tried speaking with administrators and supervisors (who are continually in meetings and don't return calls for days if at all) to no avail- her care got worse with every complaint! I finally had to take matters into my own hands and coordinate the hiring of in home staff to help her not only get out of this place, but care for her while she was still there as any help would be better than the care that she was receiving there. Calls to the Ombudsman didn't help either. YOUR LOVED ONES DESERVE BETTER THAN THIS PLACE!! STAY AWAY!! OH AND SHAME ON CEDAR SINAI FOR SENDING AFTER CARE PATIENTS HERE! read more

I am a former employee. This is the most disorganized organization I've ever worked for. I'd worked there for almost two months. Till I quit, I had never got my Biomedic account. I had to record my working hours on paper. Even during my orientation period, they assigned me to COVID patients. Nobody knew what was going on. When I got my first paycheck, working hours and rates were calculated completely wrong, and nobody, even no corporate people responded to the issue. I haven't been paid all of my pay since January 2023. I had to report Department of Labor. Finally, after a lengthy investigation, the Department of Labor notified them to pay me all the owed pay plus accumulated late interest this January. Unbelievably, they have not yet paid me. I have to go for small claims now. I used to work as an overnight shift nurse. Please do not send your loved one. All lazy CNAs and nurses were sleeping all through the night. They didn't even bother to go check residents immediately despite persistent call light pagings. read more

Do not let Cedar's hospital staff convince you to have your loved one come here. I spoke to my loved one after only an hour of being there and he wanted out immediately. He didn't even stay one full night there. Here's some of his complaints...it was dark, dingy, and someone was screaming/yelling for help constantly. He said he felt like he was in a dungeon and it's where people come to die. They have a patio where smokers can go and the sliding door to the smokers patio was connected to his room and so it smells like cigarette smoke which is not good for someone trying to heal/get better. When he got there by ambulance transport, he was dropped off to a bed and after that no one came by to check on him or to even tell him where the bathroom was/how to get to it etc. He's blind and was basically left on the bed with no call button, no access to be able to use the bathroom and no one was around to help. He eventually heard someone walking by who was giving out medicine and he yelled for her to help him, to give him a call button and a commode etc. He then asked for a cup of ice and she said the ice machine is broken. He tried using the call button after this, to get someone to help him because his oxygen wasn't working and waited for over 30min with no response before he had me call the front desk to get someone to go help him. Once he told them he wanted out of there and told them all the issues he was having within the first two hours of being there they were very apologetic and begged him to stay until at least the morning, when the regular daytime staff was there (he was transported there when all the daytime staff and doctors/nurses were gone). They were saying everything would get better the next day but he told me he had seen enough and couldn't believe how this place was being run and to get him out. Because he refused to even stay one night and no doctor was there to be able to "officially discharge" him, it forced us to have to leave "against medical advice" (according to the Sharon center) which basically screws us in regards to him getting benefits he should have been able to get and receive. He wanted out of this place so much that he was willing to leave knowing this might impact how much help he'll receive once he leaves. So, just don't let Cedars-Sinai convince you that this is the way to go. If we instead had refused to come here, Cedars would've arranged at-home PT, OT, home health/nurse and it would've been covered. Now, we're screwed because we mistakenly thought this would be the better option for him, turns out it wasn't. Also, to visit someone here (even after all the crazy covid restrictions have been lifted) you have to have BOTH a fully vaxxed vaccine card AND a negative covid test. The vaccine card by itself is not enough, and you have to call at least 24 hrs in advance to make an appt to visit someone. We were really in a desperate kind of situation regarding him needing help with things like PT/OT but to him, this place was not worth it. Hope this review helps someone else not end up screwed like we are now. On another note, the people I spoke to there did seem friendly and were never rude or anything so maybe they're just really understaffed and/or their processes of handling check ins, responding to call buttons, etc needs improvement. However, things like not having ice (what about people who need to be ice'd and have pain or swelling etc?) , having cigarette smoke coming in the room, no response to call buttons/lights doesn't seem like a place where healing is a priority. read more

My fiance is currently recovering from a stroke at Sharon Care Center. We were referred by Cedars Sinai. So far we have been there six weeks and my fiance is recovering beautifully. I am VERY IMPRESSED with Sharon's level of care, the warm and clean environment, and the attitude of the staff. There is a very friendly atmosphere there. Everyone at Sharon has done their best to make sure that my fiance is receiving the correct medications, effective physical therapy, and personal attention. I read some of the negative reviews but decided to make a personal visit before we placed her there. It is an older building but in spotless condition, with two patio areas, and attractively decorated - Live orchids in the lobby! I visited other facilities but this one stood out. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you take a tour if you or your loved one need rehab care or long term skilled nursing. I already encouraged another current patient to get treatment at Sharon Care. read more

What you need to know, and what I wished I had known, is your loved one will be bed bound during their stay there. My mother prior to admittance was up in her wheelchair all day being active. She declined significantly while being there. The facility only allows one 45 minute visit a week (long after Los Angeles has lifted restrictions), if you're lucky enough to even get an appointment, and that is the only time my mother got out of bed. I was told by the nurse that she gets up everyday, but upon further questioning, he clarified that meant sitting up in bed. I finagled my way to use the bathroom and went down a hall. Not an employee in sight, and what I saw was rows and rows of feet. There are three beds per room, and everyone was in bed during the middle of the day. Not surprising, my mother was discharged with a rash and bedsore. read more

This is a caring facility and staff is helpful and accommodating.They took excellent care of my mom during her 2 week stay in rehab she also has dementia and they took extra care of her.Amanda swing shift head nurse is totally awesome loving and caring. One of the worst facilities I have ever seen. My brother was transferred here from Cedars as per the case manager said "the only place that would take him." He was in a 3 bed room that was small and smelled. One of his roommates had a horrible cough so I asked the admissions director if this man was contagious and I was told " none of your business." My brother was there at this facility for 1 week. He never showered, stayed in bed fully clothed all day all night and he didn't feel safe. The LVNs were more concerned with passing their meds on time rather that having hands on care with their patients. I will be reporting this facility for neglect as well as notifying Cedars Sinai regarding this case manager. Please don't ever send your loved ones here. As an RN I was embarrassed and disgusted to have been pressured and forced to place my brother here. read more
