My grandmother lived at this facility, and it absolutely blew me away with the care and compassion expelled from their staff on a regular basis. I think it is easy to forget that we are moving our loved ones to these places because we are unable to care for them ourselves. But God bless the staff that choose to get up daily and go take care of our loved ones for us. My grandmother loved this place it definitely broke her out of her shell and made her more outgoing. The staff provided exceptional care for my grandmother, and they were wonderful with their communication. I would recommend this facility to anybody and everybody. read more

Sharonbrooke is where my mom wanted to be as her health was declining. The main office staff, Amy T, Megan, Dawn, Dusty and Tracy were very kind and helped her get into the facility in a timely manner because she could no longer live with family. That was a blessing. She has only been there for a few months. We have had our ups and downs but the staff is willing to work with us and try to work things out for the better. We really appreciate that. After a year and a half of horrible care we moved our mother out of Sharonbrooke. The administration is difficult to work with and unprofessional, the staff are poorly managed and the amenities they tout are essentially non-existent. Sharonbrooke used to enjoy a very positive reputation but no longer. Having many years of health care experience myself, I would absolutely not recommend this facility and suggest looking elsewhere for safe and compassionate care for your loved one. This place is an absolute nightmare. My father has lived here for about 4 years. It started off nice but within the last couple years the care he gets is awful. He is unable to walk very far so he needs help. That's why he is here and he gets no help especially with going to the bathroom and hygiene. Every time my wife and I visit his room smells awful. You can clearly see he is not being taken care and when you say something to the staff about it they act as though you don't even exist. As I said this place is AWFUL!!!! read more

All of my family live in Newark, so my grandmother, three of my great aunts, and multiple family friends, have chosen Sharon Brooke because they believed it provided an upscale assisted living environment. They were certainly wrong. I've seen person after person start a rapid downhill deterioration after moving in - mostly due to poor oversight, lack of intellectual and physical stimulation, and poor nutrition. Sharon Brooke is one of the worst senior living facilities I've seen - especially in recent years. It used to have a reputation as a nice place to live if you need a little extra help, but now it has done down hill so far that it's among the worst. And now days, they are doubling up - meaning that there are now two, instead of one, to each tiny room, and the dining hall is a crazy mess because they can't keep serving staff. Although it is quite expensive, the food is truly an embarrassment, there are few activities to keep active seniors active mentally and physically, and the staff are so over worked that they are not friendly and on occasion even hand out the wrong medications. They certainly didn't notice when one of my relatives was so out of sorts (due to getting confused and overdosing on a medication) that when I visited, she was putting nose spray in her ears. She was so obviously sick and out of it, but staff didn't notice or care, and family had to raise the alarm and send her to the hospital. It was a very serious situation, and Sharon Brooke couldn't have cared less. The one good thing I can say about Sharon Brooke is that their facilitates look nice. They should - it's where any small amount of money they spend on the place goes. In sum, try to avoid this place. If someone you love wants to live here, please do keep a very close eye on them - because Sharon Brooke won't. read more

Staff and the administration of this facility have apparently not changed in the seven years since the last review. Mother, who was in the memory care unit at SharonBrooke, she got a severe UTI while at this facility. So severe that her urine sample at the Emergency Room looked like coke. They did not call for medical care nor did they call an ambulance to bring Mom to the hospital. It was family that ordered the ambulance. This facility responded by telling family that Mom did not tell them anything was wrong and wasn't asking for food despite a 40 lbs weight loss. Mom had dementia and was in the memory care unit because she needed heightened care. Yet their callous and CYA responses are a red flag to anyone that thinks this is a good facility to place loved ones. They clearly lack the skill or ability, as well as the desire, to care for those that most need it. Additionally, they have failed to provide the medical records while Mom was at the facility. Another HUGE red flag that they care NOT for your loved one. Be safe and chose somewhere else for your loved one. read more

Sharonbrook is a warm wonderful place with a very caring staff. The decor changes frequently in keeping with the seasons and I love seeing their latest decorating effort. Their planting beds are well established and fun to look at from the walking path. There is always some kind of fun activity going on and it is a very homey cheerful place. read more

I normally don't write reviews but after coming across this one I disagreed do badly that I felt I needed to. My mom lives at Sharonbrooke currently and she started off on the assisted living side and was pretty independent as care as care goes she was just a little forgetful so the nurses were administering her medicines. Her dementia then took a turn for the worse and was starting to wander in the halls a little bit. She was able to move over to the brooke which Is what they call their dementia unit. She has adjusted so well over there, the staff to resident ratio is much higher and they are able to get more personalized activities. The transition was a lot harder on me and my siblings than it was her. It is hard coming to the reality that your mom has dementia but the staff there as well as administration has been so thoughtful and comforting. I would recommend this place to anyone! read more
