I litterally went in and paid her balance IN FULL and got a PAID IN FULL receipt and they STILL tried to deduct from our account TWICE!!!!!!!! The facility and staff in the mc unit were great back to my grandmother even though she was nonverbal due to Alzheimer's. My interactions and time at the facility were brief but they stood out because of those positive interactions. My 2nd mom who I've been taking care for the last several years is currently a resident at Smith's Mill for rehab. Unfortunately her dementia has progressed so I wasn't sure what to expect from her once she was transferred from the hospital. She's slowly perking up except for when Ashley Everson stops by her room each morning to check on her. She's much more talkative with Ashley and more like herself. That alone was enough for me to leave a review. As former fire/ems, I've seen all kinds of facilities and staff so I came in to sign paperwork and ready to ask a hundred questions. I left without asking any of them because Ashley covered everything I was going to ask and went over things I hadn't thought to ask or even thought about. It's rare to find a facility that is as nice as they appear on the outside. It's even more rare to meet someone like Ashley that genuinely cares about not just the residents but making sure the family members are informed and kept in the loop. When visiting my mom, I saw Ashley pass by the room and stopped her to ask the various units and then asked about meds because my mom said she hadn't been given any pain meds. I took that with a grain of salt because dementia. Ashley could have said she would send the nurse in to talk to me about meds but instead, she talked to the nurse and let me know when the last dose was given and how long before my mom could receive another dose. In that same visit, I was greeted by people left and right while walking to my mom's room. I brought her dinner for her birthday and she was just finishing it when Myshawn came in with dinner and wished my mom a happy birthday. She was slightly confused so he showed her the meal order with her info on it and the happy birthday at the top. Asked how her birthday was and if she enjoyed her dinner then said he had a piece of cake for her. She was all smiles during that interaction with him. Those moments where she's smiling ear to ear while in rehab are fleeting so it means a lot when that happens. I've told a number of friends that have aging family members about my experience over the years any time my mom goes to an SNF so they have options when needed or when they start the process of moving a family member who needs more care. I've since told all but a few of them about Smith's Mill and if they decide to check it out, ask for Ashley because she is not only a font of knowledge when it comes to elder care but she is genuine when it comes to caring about the residents. That and the food has looked delicious every time I've been to visit during meal time. Honestly a little envious of my mom on that front.

Severely Understaffed - Lack of patient attention. Most of the employees at this facility are…read moregreat and try their best. It is unfortunate that this facility is ran so lean (UNDERSTAFFED) that the patient care quality is diminished and suffering. The workers try their best to provide the best care they can, but with their load of patients it is just not possible. My family member is not able to do anything for themselves, no talking, not much movement so it is really up to the facility to help rehab them. There have been various times when my family member sits in their soiled diaper for over an hour before being changed. They have had 3 infections since they got to the facility in two months. Just the other day I let an STNA know that our family member was soiled. I waited 30 minutes before saying something again to the staff to please come change them. That time I was told that they were finishing handing out snacks to the other patients before they were able to come change them. Now think about this sitting in your own pee and poop for over 30 minutes, and not able to do anything or tell anyone about it. All this happened while I was there, so think about what happens and how long our family member sits when we are not there. It was closer to one hour passed since my first initial request to change diapers before someone came in to check. Even when they were in there giving meds and vitals, they never once checked to see if they had a bowel movement or used the restroom. I would not recommend sending your loved one to this facility if they need rehab, and alot of attention. The staff just does not have the time to care for them. It is unfortunate with insurance companies we do not have the option to move our family member to a different facility. We were told by some staff that they don't actually rehab and do range of motions when they come check on the patients because of the time commitment it takes to do this and their overload of patients. This facility management should definitely look into hiring an agency for additional workers or adding additional staff so that patient care is not hindered. We are currently looking for other facilities that insurance will approve to get our family member out of here so that their rehabilitation is not delayed and they get the care and attention they need and deserve. The staff is doing the best they can, but management has to do better. This is not just a thing of right now, this facility has been like this for over 2 years per previous workers and previous patients families. Something has to change. Our family members deserve good quality and attentive care.

He went from reluctant to recently requesting to be the Abbington spokesperson to prospective residents! Dad feels like the entire Abbington staff genuinely cares about him and what he needs -- and we agree. It's as if they've joined our family to help care for him. Artisha and Shaena have been especially patient and understanding, and they're clearly great leaders, which shows in the consistent, happy, hard-working staff around them. Dad raves about the food and has enjoyed getting to know some of the other residents. Abbington Pickerington has been such a blessing to my dad and our entire family. There was a folder marked lab results in a pocket on the door as we walked in. It seemed dark, with little lighting. No residents anywhere in sight. We wandered around for about 10 minutes and never found anyone to help us. There was no cell service so we couldn't call anyone. We pushed the call button to get someone to help us and no one came. I've tried to call multiple times with no answer. I even left a message and no one returned the call. Plus there were urine stains on the couch cushions. Not a good impression of the facility.

It helps patients feel at home or like they have their own apartments. There should be many more to the point where the traditional nursing homes disappear. The environment can help with a patient getting better on all levels. My mom was at this facility for 6.5 days in the short term building. Poor thing has been in the hospital for the minimum of 6 days every month of this year so far. First impressions were great. Michael got my mom a wheel chair, noticed she was cold and gave her a blanket. My sister and I knew she thought we were "dropping her off" in some place that hadn't been redecorated since 1987. We were very happy to show her that it was light, bright with four windows and she had privacy. The PSA's were all fabulous. Michael, Sanjay, Sequoia, and others that I would remember by face but failed to write down their names. Jamie the nurse was great. My mom really liked Susan who was the social worker, and the psychiatrist as well as Dr. D. Lauren was exceptionally helpful with getting her admitted and paperwork. The aforementioned individuals made a great impression on us. My mom had to leave by ambulance and didn't leave the hospital for 12 days. The first week she was in the hospital a young lady named Kristen came to see how she was doing. I thought that was very nice. That's where my positive comments end. The director of Nursing? Never met her and I should have way before her being there 5 days. I was told to always just push the option to speak to her. That was great until I inquired if my mom had fallen. She didn't call back. I did and no answer all of a sudden. So my sister called and she picked right up. She had conducted interviews and confirmed my had not fallen. That was great, however, I have EVERY right to ask if my mom fell and that is the type of call that warrants a follow up ASAP. Kevin? Didn't need to meet him and after the attitude he displayed while I was cleaning out my mom's room because she had to return to the hospital; I'm not sorry about not meeting him. He's arrogant and rude. If he had any questions about what was obviously going on right before his eyes, he needed to use his eyes and make contact with me and speak to me, not yell and demand someone else respond. I wasn't responding because nobody is going to speak AT me and get a response. I didn't care for him interrupting me as I was giving the PSAs an update on my mom, that they had taken care of and had a genuine concern for. There are various ways to have handled that. He handled it wrong. I was told by more than one person; three to be exact that that building rarely is full so it shouldn't be an issue to get her back after her hospital stay. Granted it was 12 days later, but I still feel like this facility did NOT want my mom back because of the issues she was having. But since it's a NURSING facility, those are issues each and every person should attend to. It was like they just focused on her PT needs and ignored everything else. They had doctor records so they knew what they were getting with my mom coming on as a patient. The PSAs are pretty much nurses too. They have quite a few duties. Too many to be honest. Cooking, cleaning, laundry, getting vitals, tending to patients and cleaning rooms. This is how you burn out your team. This is how you have turnover. It costs more to replace employees then to keep the ones you have and keep them happy. It's not really such a feat to show your employees appreciation. We had the social worker at OhioHealth call the location in Gahanna and within seconds advised they had a room available. I found that to be interesting. It's only day 1.5 but the differences are apparent. Starting with them testing her for TB right off the bat. That wasn't done at all in New Albany. There's a different type of "buzz" here and my mom, sister, and I feel it. Stay tuned.

When she was released after a second visit to St. Ann's New Albany unfortunately had no room. Mom was sent to Gahanna which lacked adequate staffing and attention to patients. I would rate Gahanna a 2 only because of admin staff was helpful in finding long term care for Mom. Lady working in the kitchen was so helpful and a 5 helping make sure Mom was up and feeding her. During 3 visits to Gahanna Mom was dehydrated and only water was administered by my wife and me during visits. Once she was transferred to long term her lips were dry and cracked and she drank 3 glasses of water which tells me once again Gahanna ignored making sure she was hydrated. If you have a choice Otterbein of New Albany is the only choice! Gahanna the aids would be on their phones off to the side only moving if us as a family member initiated moving of helping our loved ones.Mom had dried food on her chest and on her clothes only cleaned up while we visited her.....
