I cannot say enough wonderful things about Paws Center in Sun Valley. About 10 years ago, I rescued my 130-pound German Shepherd from the pound, and he has been a beloved member of our family ever since. As he got older, he developed large masses on both of his paws. Because he is a senior dog, I struggled with whether surgery was the right decision. From the moment we came to Paws Center, the entire team treated us with kindness, compassion, and honesty. They carefully evaluated my dog's condition, reassured me that surgery was the best option, and confirmed that the masses were cancerous. The surgery was extremely difficult because the tumors were on both paws, but Dr. Carolyn McCray, the Medical Director, did an absolutely exceptional job. The surgery was flawless, the incisions and stitches were beautifully done, and my dog received outstanding care throughout the entire process. Every time I had a concern, the staff was there for us. Whether I called with questions or walked in to have something checked, they never made me feel like a burden. They were always patient, caring, and willing to help. I also want to recognize Fernando, who was absolutely amazing. He spent time talking with us, answered all of our questions, reassured us when we were worried, and truly put us at ease during such a stressful time. When I shared my financial concerns about the surgery, he went above and beyond by helping reduce the cost. That level of compassion is something you rarely find. Over the past 10 years, I have been to many veterinary clinics, and Paws Center has been the most affordable by far. They are well known for providing exceptional veterinary care at reasonable prices, and now I understand why so many people recommend them. You can genuinely tell that everyone at Paws Center loves what they do. Their compassion, professionalism, and dedication to both pets and their families are truly remarkable. Update: We took bozo to VCA last night - they had no problem handling him, and in fact, the VCA Vet was actually holding him in her arms. He had to be euthanized because of advanced and severe Calicivirus - his entire mouth and tongue were ulcerated and he was in an enormous amount of pain. An enormous amount of pain that lasted for two days longer than it had to because of the actions of PAW center. Today we took in a community cat named Bozo for treatment. He's lived at our apartment complex for over 10 years and have cared for him the entire time. We built shelters for him, fed him every day, and made sure he was safe. For the last three days Bozo hasn't eaten or had any water. He was drooling heavily, his face was swollen, his tongue was hanging out, and he was obviously in severe mouth pain. Before they took him to the back, I explained that Bozo is friendly with people he knows but terrified of strangers, especially when he's hurting. I even marked "caution" on the intake form. They took him away without letting either of us go with him, which I personally don't like. I think how a clinic handles an animal says a lot. When we were finally brought into a room, the woman who came in (I'm assuming from other reviews this was Dr. McCray, though she never introduced herself) immediately said they were sending us home with oral antibiotics and gabapentin because Bozo had used up his "kitty minutes." I've honestly never heard that term before. We explained that Bozo is a community cat who lives in a parking garage and hasn't eaten or drank anything in three days. Giving oral medication to an outdoor cat in that condition is not realistic. I've fostered medical cases for years and have no problem medicating cats in a home, but this is completely different. I asked what his diagnosis actually was. Was it an abscessed tooth? Stomatitis? Something else? She couldn't answer because they never actually examined his mouth beyond catching a quick glimpse when he hissed. We explained that if it's a bad tooth, antibiotics aren't going to fix the problem. We also explained that we couldn't afford a $1,400 dental. Four different people scraped together enough money just to bring him in because we honestly thought we might have to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize him. Instead, we were told they wouldn't euthanize him because he was "bright and alert." He absolutely was not. He was dehydrated, in obvious pain, and hadn't eaten or drank for three days. So we tried asking for literally anything else that could help. Could they give him subcutaneous fluids? No. He was out of "kitty minutes." Could they give him a long-acting antibiotic injection? No. Out of "kitty minutes." Could they sedate him so they could safely treat him? No. Out of "kitty minutes." At that point I was beyond frustrated. I pointed out that they're veterinary professionals with training and equipment for handling difficult cats. Their response was basically that if I could inject him, then I should be able to give oral medication too--which completely ignores the reality of trying to catch and medicate a sick, scared community cat outdoors. Then we were told if we didn't like their plan, they could simply waive the exam fee and we'd leave with nothing. So we took the medications even though we know there's very little chance we'll actually be able to give them to him. Worse yet, now Bozo is frightened of us because of today's experience, making it even harder to help him. The whole thing was incredibly disappointing. A cat who was clearly suffering was denied even basic supportive care because he had supposedly run out of "kitty minutes." They then called some veterinarian on the phone to tell me what was wrong, which I found totally unprofessional. Why couldn't I speak to them in person were they on lunch or something? It felt very off putting. Payed $356 dollars just for that. Felt like a in and out experience for my first time. Second time, came back for a hot spot. Again they took him to the back. 10 mins later came out and was charged an antibiotic chew, w/ a topical spray and a cone. I looked at my receipt and showed they charged me a cone, but didn't even give it to me til I claimed it AND couldn't even put it on him. Oh but then I get home, and I notice what they gave me the wrong probiotic chew. So I had to drive all the way back. So they couldn't put the cone on, gave me the wrong probiotic. They had the most reasonable consultation price in the area. At first, I was hesitant and worried to bring my sick cat to this clinic, **only because I had never been here before (and had a few poor experiences with previous vet clinics), and neither my friends or family had been here either to recommend. But he needed to be seen quickly and we found PAW Center was open Sundays which was a relief. We took a chance, and we are so grateful we ever did. After a few days stay, IVs, treatment, and monitored care by the wonderful PAW Center team: Fernando, Dr. McKay, Kayla, and the front desk girls; Panchito was feeling much better and back to being playful, happy, with an appetite again as we've always known him just within a couple days of coming home. It was all such a relief. I appreciated being able to check-in with how he was doing there each day with the staff too. I thank Fernando for his patience and answering all of our questions/concerns, I was very worried and feeling sad as anyone is when their furry family member is sick and stops eating. But Fernando assured us they would focus on prioritizing immediate treatment and run appropriate tests/labs to get to the bottom of it. He was very professional, caring, knowledgeable, and respectful of our concerns. Dr. McKay was also amazing for reaching us and providing next steps for ongoing treatment for the next month (which btw he's doing so well so far ). My family and I are so appreciative for the team at PAW Center for taking care of our Panchito and being transparent about treatment, pricing, and next steps. Finally, a place where the "guesswork" isn't just running a bill with no answers or solutions. I would highly recommend them for taking care of your pets with care, knowledge, and respect. rescued two severly neglected chained up dogs in a junkyard in South LA. The female was heavily pregnant but spay aborted at a spay/neuter only clinic. Before I was able to find a rescue organization to help them, she started having "seizures" after the spay surgery. I compared prices and services for vets based on the recommendations of other animsl rescuers. PAWS was close but also had the most reasonable prices. I spoke with Fernando the owner who was EXTREMELY KIND AND COMPASSIONATE about these 2 poor souls and the hard life they lived. He was able to find creative ways of saving me money while performing all necessary tests to make sure they were safe. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The facility is large, clean and beautiful. They answered all my questions and were extremely helpful. Brought my dog here for urgent care. She is an 11 yo, 8 lb Chihuahua who ate 3 grapes when I wasn't looking! This was the closest place to my home that was open on a Sunday. I am so happy I found this place and will be coming here in the future (I have 3 cats and 2 dogs). When I arrived I was able to check in pretty quickly, they took my dog in and checked her and suggested giving her something to make her vomit first. This worked so that was great news. They also gave her fluids to help with hydration. The only thing is I didn't get to talk to the vet, just the front desk assistant but I think that was due to them finding a quick solution to the problem. Prices are very reasonable and the place is absolutely welcoming (spacious, clean, modern) and they even have a snack bar which is amazing! I definitely recommend. read more

This is the most horrendous veterinary wellness center. They will absolutely leave your dog to rot and "forget" after you are forced to put them down after they give you a medicine that THEIR OWN VET HAD SAID IT WAS A GUARANTEE. after explaining what her own vet had said to me, l was accused of being a liar by the medical director of the place. They only gave me less than 5 five minutes to spend her last moments while they had her crying in the back for almost an hour and only brought my dog out when I threatened to call the cops. After calling for 2 weeks straight for the cremation process, they continued to brush me off and never gave me a straight answer of when the ashes would be ready. Until I had to threaten legal action again, over call they scoffed and said they forgot about the dog and will put her paper in right away(?!?) even though I had called daily for an update for 2 weeks. I still have the dates on every paper work and every call log. I spent 800$ on "life saving" medicine just for them to paralyze her and get blamed that I'm the worse owner for letting my dog reach that point. I absolutely cannot put into words how thankful my family and I are to have found this facility. We have been battling health issues on one of our dogs since November that started as something so little and spiraled into a complete nightmare with other vets (SHOUTOUT VAN NUYS VETERINARY) being useless money grabbing scammers, our dog being recommended for euthanasia without any real reason (SHOUTOUT TO VCA FOR THAT) and feeling so discouraged that even to go here yesterday was a last stitch effort for immediate help. It was a world of difference from the very moment we spoke to Jocelyn on the phone. It's been a month but I wanted to add my review to Yelp as well. I have genuinely never felt so faithful in someone taking care of my pet until I came to PAW Center. I forget that my baby Sally is a cat, which means she doesn't know that some things aren't supposed to be eaten. I won't get too deep into it, but she ate something that would have never came out of her GI tract in time. PAW Center was so incredibly effective in their process of helping us out. They made sure to take a detailed background of Sally and her newfound problem, and keep us informed about what would need to be done to move along her intestinal blockage. It was a weeklong mess in our house, worrying if she would be okay. "Will she need surgery? What if this permanently hurts her? Can we even afford her care?" I don't think we could have received the same amount of care and reassurance anywhere else. Whether it was about Sally's outcome or finances, it wasn't possible to doubt the effort and dedication put in by the clinic. In the end she needed surgery - which removed several inches of medical tape from her intestines that she ate from the trash for whatever reason. And I didn't doubt for a second that she would be okay because of how much faith I had in the people working on her. I can't say it enough. These people know what they're doing, and they're not overcharging for it. The vet industry is complicated, just like our human healthcare industry, but it doesn't get better than what you'll find here. I was quoted nearly $2,000 for my pets dental cleaning and extractions: $750 for X-rays, blood work, and antibiotics, plus a flat $1,300 fee no matter how many teeth were pulled. Even if they only removed one tooth! It felt like they were more focused on charging "package" prices than tailoring care to my pets actual needs. UPDATE : my husband had to call them after I called several days back to back and finally got them to send labs with NO doctors notes, half the labs missing. I was told my dog had no issues that they saw, WHILE I WAS AT ANOTHER EMERGENCY WHERE THEY TRIED TO SAVE HIM FROM HEART FAILURE. They said he was one episode away from dying. Absolute negligence. I also saw they wrote on my results that I declined medication, when in reality I was not offered ANYTHING AT ALL. I later learn the vet tech is not licensed. Also they give away alcohol to guests with no ID requirement and for free. They take your dog to the back even when you insist on going with your dog, and after waiting two hours you're not going to say no at that point. This place is a SCAM. Stay away. I'm writing this review based on the lack of professionalism. I called around 3pm to ensure they're still accepting walk-ins, and the receptionist confirmed they accept walk-ins up to 3:50 since they close at 4. I arrived at around 3:05 pm and as I was parking in their lot, I noticed a staff member poke her head out of the front door and proceeded to close the door. Once I unloaded my dog and reached the door, I noticed it was locked. I gently knocked on the door and noticed people on the other side. Still, nobody came to the door, so I called, and they answered. The receptionist told me they had to close since the tech and vet had to leave early. I kindly responded by letting them know that I called and was not informed about this. Instead, I was told it was okay to stop by. While I was still in the parking lot making my way out, I noticed another person arriving. They made their way to the front door, which was locked as well. But this time, the staff came to the door, and it seemed like they had the professionalism and courtesy to open the door to provide an explanation instead of leaving him outside. Again, this is regarding the lack of professionalism. They could have easily called me back or informed me when I arrived. Instead, they locked the doors upon my arrival, and I had to call THEM for an explanation. I won't be considering this place in the future for urgent needs since I clearly understand the inconsistency in how they treat customers or potential customers. read more

Between November and March, I brought my dog Banjo to PAW Center multiple times with serious, recurring symptoms and clear concerns about what might be causing them. Each time, I spoke up. Each time, I was ignored. Dr. McCray repeatedly dismissed what I told her--sometimes with a condescending smile--and insisted on a diagnosis that never sat right with me. She's a doctor, and she was confident, persuasive, and sure of herself. I wanted to trust her. This was one of the only affordable options in the area, and I kept hoping I was wrong--that maybe she was seeing something I couldn't. But I wasn't wrong. Banjo was misdiagnosed, and by the time the truth came out, it was too late to save him. Losing him was heartbreaking. But what made it worse was realizing how hard I fought to be heard, and how thoroughly I was dismissed by someone I turned to for help. I came here several months ago because my cat had a lesion on her neck. I asked several times beforehand how much the visit would cost, and was quoted a price several times. I explained that I thought my cat could have ringworm, but not even the basic test was done to test if it was (shining a black light on the lesion). Instead, I was told she had fleas and was charged about an extra $150 for the tests and medication. When I told the receptionist I wished they had told me the cost would be so much more after I had asked several times, the receptionist was extremely passive aggressive and said that I didn't have to buy the medication. She saw that I was struggling with the cost and had zero sympathy, for example not even suggesting an alternative like the Care Credit card that they advertise at the front. On top of this, I went to another vet and discovered that my cat was misdiagnosed (she did indeed have ringworm, not fleas). I emailed to ask for a refund, saying my cat was given the wrong diagnosis, and was met with an initial response but then radio silence afterwards (I emailed three times over several months to no response). This place seemed good initially, but because of this recent experience I will not be coming back. I also see through other reviews that misdiagnosis and attitude from the staff is a general problem here. read more

I've taken my cat Langston here a couple of times, and they've always been pleasant in helping get to his problems. I'm usually very busy with work and school, and unfortunately, I haven't been able to make appointments, but they've been great in fitting me in, which I'm very grateful for. The lobby is very roomy and clean, parking isn't a problem, and prices have been affordable. I've been to some other vets, particularly one in NOHO, that was highly rated but VERY expensive, and I felt more like just another number- collect their money, push them out the door... it wasn't as personable as the Paw Center people have been to me. Oh, I wasn't aware, but Wednesdays are for surgeries, I think it reads they're OPEN, but they're really there conducting surgeries only, but double check with them! I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

Amazing, comfortable, welcoming office. Receptionist very welcoming and helpful. I did a walk in for X-rays which they were very quick with and were able to help out to figure out what was wrong, luckily nothing broken. Thank you to Fernando and his amazing team. We went in after my dog ate pork bones. They took us in immediately. After receiving the news that she had to be admitted and had to be kept overnight.
