Starving, I was in search of somewhere that was opened on a holiday and serving up some yummy food and I found both in Joe's! This building is located right off the main drag in Clay City and you enter from the alley. The outside of the building is adorned in old street signs and inside with old-school memorabilia - gas station signage in a diner-style setting. Cute to boot! Even the bathroom was decorated with old comic strips and pages out of magazines. The sink countertop was lined with bottle caps that I may copy in my next house project ;) I ordered up some rib tips, mac and cheese, and green beans and all entrees come with some Texas toast. I was in between ordering the beef brisket or rib tips and the staff all pointed me towards the rib tips and I'm so glad they did because man oh man, they were fall-off-the-bone delightful and the mac and cheese had a strong pepper flavor, which was unexpected but delicious. The green beans were good, nothing too exciting there - I was trying to be healthy. I should have gone with the sweet potato casserole or fries. Next time for sure! I'll be coming back, for sure!

So far, my favorite entree has been the Fried Cheese Lasagna--I've had it once as a full entree and once as part of the Italian Feast pasta sampler. It's always packed with flavor, and the red sauce is always nice and vibrant--just the right amount of sweet and tang with a solid meat flavor. And you get an ample portion of food for your money. You might not have enough room for dessert, but I'm glad our server talked us into taking dessert home. Once you see the assortment of cheesecakes, cannoli and pastries in the display case, you will have trouble turning them down. I had the caramel cheesecake, and it's one of those desserts where you just close your eyes and savor every bite. I was always wanting to find an independent, old-style Italian restaurant that I could visit regularly when I lived in Indianapolis, but I didn't find too many. I should have known that the little town of Clinton would meet my needs in that area after I moved back to the Wabash Valley. There are lots of food options, soft drinks and beer and seltzers. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who likes barbecue.
