For instance, if you don't want to make a bunch of mashed potatoes for a get-together, order ahead from Kleptz and they'll get you set with a big foil pan with some of their many options. Traditional entrees are always a mainstay. We like the quiet atmosphere inside the restaurant. Their servers are always very busy, but willing to get what you need ASAP. read more

They just started a Thursday dinner and Friday lunch pizza and pasta buffet so I thought I'd give it a try on Friday. Other than the taco pizza I believe the rest of the pizzas were reheated from Thursday night they did not taste fresh at all. Same with the pasta. For $15.99 I don't believe I'll be back. read more

Kleptz's Restaurant may very well be the only actual restaurant in tiny Seelyville, Indiana - if not, it's pretty darn close to it. A family owned restaurant that has been around since 1914, seriously, Kleptz's takes reservations and offers dine-in, carry-out, catering, and they're big enough that they can handle private groups in their restaurant that resembles an expanded large house-type setting. They do have outdoor dining in warm weather. In fact, my visit was with a rather large party as a group of work peers was hosting me during my fundraising tour through their town. Kleptz's is on US 40 sort of on the Terre Haute/Seelyville line and incredibly close to Brazil, Indiana. It offers a diverse menu, though likely many smaller city restaurants has a rather fundamental online presence with Facebook and Yelp being its strongest web presence. Kleptz's serves all three meals and tends to run in the middle-of-the-road price range with most meals being in the $10-15 range. They do also serve alcohol. I did note that they do have gluten free options. There's a wheelchair ramp into the establishment - I'd say it's likely not quite up to ADA standards, though I had no difficulty with it. As this appears to have been a house at some point, the doorways are a tad narrow and I'm guessing that the person who reserved a private room likely indicated one wheelchair would be present. Kleptz's is big enough that I'd expect they have plenty of options for disabled diners. Parking is in an adjacent lot - I believe they had some identified accessible spots, a couple as I recall, though they definitely were not ADA compliant. Still, they had them. I ordered a tenderloin sandwich hoping that I'd discover a gem for my friend Rick G., a fellow Yelper who blogs about tenderloin. I also ordered fries and my usual unsweetened iced tea. As a group, we ordered a combo platter and I tried the popcorn shrimp - surprisingly tasty even for this guy who doesn't ordinarily eat shrimp. The tenderloin, which appeared to be hand-breaded, was still rather middle-of-the-road for me. It was a nice chunk o' meat but lacked any really distinctive flavor. I didn't dislike it, but it wasn't the gem I hoped it would be. The fries were fairly straightforward fries, though they complemented the meal just fine. The meal was good, but not great. I did use the bathroom. I will also admit that I struggled with it a bit. It's a single-user bathroom and the doorway was fairly narrow and the door closed quickly. While I'm mostly independent, during these events I have road support with me and I did need a little assistance with the door both entering and leaving the bathroom. Once in the bathroom? It's pretty spacious, though it lacks any adaptive devices that would assist with transfer. Basically, it's a bathroom in a restaurant that's been around over 100 years. I enjoyed this experience, though that was as much because of the company as anything. The service was friendly and efficient. I wouldn't hesitate to return, though I'd definitely try something other than tenderloin. That said, it wasn't the kind of experience that would have me thinking "I have to go back" the next time I'm in the area. If I could, I'd likely go 3.5 stars. As it is, 4 stars feels too high. The food is good and you can't beat the prices My sirloin sandwich was only $9 and it was huge. It's basically an 8-oz. steak served with 2 thick pieces of Texas toast and a side. You could eat it as an entree if you wish, but there's something oddly satisfying about smashing a 3/4-in thick sirloin, lettuce, red onion, pickles, and tomato between two 1-in slabs of garlicky, greasy bread and trying to stuff it all in your piehole. Don't miss out on the housemade chips. Ask for them extra crispy (aka "not wimpy"). read more

Kleptz's has been a favorite of mine for a long time, though it's been a few years since I was able to eat here. To me they've always been great at burgers, steaks, and the fish sandwich. However, I am now on a heart healthy diet so I was concerned that my selection would be limited. Boy, was I wrong! The big salad was awesome! I had mine with grilled salmon which seems a little unusual but I really wanted to see how the flavors worked out. The honey mustard dressing with it was awesome. Speaking of dressings, they do make their own ranch. It is worth trying. They should bottle this stuff, it's amazing. As always the atmosphere at Kleptz's is fun and friendly. We enjoyed the recent Easter brunch at Kleptz's. It was buffet style but with a twist. At the table you circled what you wanted to eat and the wait staff brought it to you. Worked great! Don't waste your time looking for good food here. The service was good though. I ordered the ribeye medium rare and whatever cut of meat I was served was well done. The salad was half wilted and tasted of well water. How was the baked potato you ask? Dry and overcooked to the point I think it wasn't cooked that day. The green beans were bland and tasted fresh out of the can. This was my second time here in two years and I won't go again. We had a large group and only 2 people were happy with the food. Today I took the family to Kleptz. To celebrate Father's Day and my Anniversary. I had the Prime Rib and it was very good. My wife had the Salmon and she lived it. One other item I thought was very good was their sweet tea. The service was good, it was clean, the prices were a little high but so was the quality of food. Always has really good food, whether or not you eat there or take it with you. Service is not always great, but it seems as though they are understaffed at lunch, and over staffed at dinner. The BLT is a solid eat, and the Tenderloins are a crowd pleaser. But, I happened to have the mushroom burger, and it was to-die-for. Plus, the sweet potato fries were great too! Well Kleptz's has recently changed hands and I like what they're doing. Some minimal changes to the menu, and the choice to serve better quality food has made this place a must stop. Like baseball, 3 strikes, and you're out. If I hadn't been invited (with another 'I told you so' for the party), I would never have gone. If you go and sit in the bar room, you should be OK. If you have a kid, and you're in the family room, forget it. You'll be ignored until you just give up and leave. Prices are too high for the quality of the food, which isn't that good. Steaks were tough, and seasoned way too salty. The last time time I was there, my "boneless" fish dinner was nothing BUT bones. The garlic butter dip was not that - it was literally grease drippings in a cup from the grille, so it smelled and look. It had to be. I think the waitress thought she was being funny or something? It literally smelled like sewer! And the thing is, I wasn't being rude to her. I simply asked for the garlic butter, as it was missing from the order. I guess that made her mad. Being in the bar room, the service was OK, as we ordered alcohol. Do that, and they'll pay attention to you. We went to Klepz's for mothers 86th birthday and it was one of the worst dining experiences we ever had. There was one table besides us ( there were 7 of us) it took our waitress 20 minutes to get our drinks and an hour to get our food. When the food came everything that was fried was burnt my son ordered cheese sticks and they were so burnt there was no cheese in them. We had entrees that had a salad and applesauce that was brought after the entrée after we asked for them. While we were waiting on our food our waitress sat down at a table across from us and was eating her food. Also our plates were not cleared from our table. We paid with a debit card and added the tip in the total. When I checked my bank statement on Monday (we were there on Sunday) I discovered we had been overcharged for a extra drink and also the total had been changed. I called Monday,Tuesday, and Wednesday asking for the manager or owner, finally on Wed. I got a guy that said he was acting manager I told him what happened he said come in on Thurs and talk to this girl ( I won't mention names) and she would take care of it. So on Thurs I drove to Seeleyville (I live in Brazil) only to be told she did not have the authority to give me my money back. I left my name & number the owner (Lori) attempted to call me on Fri. around 11 a.m. I returned her call at 1:30 p.m. and she was already gone they said she would call me Sat. She didn't. I waited until Mon. When I called the girl I talked to said I will call Lori right now The girl I talked to called me back (same girl I talked to on Thurs) and said I could come and get my money back and they would give me a $20.00 gift card. I got my money and told them to keep the gift card because I will never eat there again. The owner never called me to apologize. That is no way to run a business. This was a place we would stop in few and far between because of the drive from our house it was always great and we would recommend it to others,tonight will be the last time we ever eat there,it was hands done the worst food I have ever been served.it was either boiling hot in the center or cold,soup had a skin on it when it was delivered and the salmon didn't even look like it was from a real fish.the rolls were tough and cold and it took a looooong time to get our food when it wasn't busy.the waiter was good and apologetic and took my wife's meal off the ticket,but the cook/kitchen staff should be replaced and the microwave gotten rid of.again sad to say we will not return or recommend when this was a well loved place we infrequently visited but looked forward to.whatever new changes the owners did needs to be discarded and the old ways returned. read more

What's not to like about this place, great food, great drink choices, and good service. The food is just fantastic, and you get plenty of it. If you decide to order an entree, you will also get three sides to go along with it so leaving here hungry just doesn't happen. The beer selection was great. The menu has a great selection too and the prices are very reasonable. The quality of food is what you would expect at the low prices. The flavors resembled that of hot common family owned diner, but there lacks any signature dishes. I had the chicken parmesan entree which came with a salad, spaghetti, garlic bread and cottage cheese. I suspect all the items were purchased from the local bulk food store and prepared by the instructions on the back of the box or can. It all tasted fine, but nothing to tell your friends about. I also ordered a locally brewed sour wheat ale on draft which really surprised me. Small out-of-the-way places like this don't typically have need like that, so that was a nice surprise. The building, atmosphere and service were all excellent. By the looks of the exterior I was not expecting such a wonderful dining room. My family and I used to frequent Kleptz. Honestly, we were probably there once a week. The last few times we have been there, it has been less and less pleasing. Tonight, we went for the first time in months. My daughter ordered the kids spaghetti, my fiancee ordered a mushroom and Swiss burger, and I had the Patty melt without onions. All of our sides were the fried chips because they are always outstanding. When served our food, we were shocked that all of our chips were no more than half cooked! They were raw! So raw that there was no way our server didn't notice when she brought them out. Our sandwiches were wonderful, but the server took forever to get refills and we should have asked for two drinks at once because that's how thirsty we had gotten. With ours being the only table in the family dining area, this was all just unacceptable. I hate to say it Kleptz, but we will not be back. read more
