Maria kept us in the loop of our status and guide us through the application and documentation process. The Quarry office closes on the weekend and with our busy schedule, we could only see it on the weekends. Maria made it happen and we were able to see it on Saturday. During the move in process, Maria greeted us and PERSONALLY handed us the keys and a welcome packet. She also made sure everything was in working order before we moved in. We have not seen a property manager who is this efficient and involved in San Diego. There was an incident where the maintenance guys blocked our car and we contacted Maria about it. She PERSONALLY walked out of the office, looked for them, and told them to move. Maria is wonderful and we are glad she is our property manager. The neighborhood is quiet and lovely. There's a beautiful park across the street. This area is close to downtown La Mesa.

They are postponing rentals for an indeterminate amount of time, I didn't feel like I got true or honest information about that. Josie kept referring to her boss, "the lawyer," as the reason they were not accepting move ins. I want to say I have spoken to her a few times over a month or so of apartment searching. Here's my takeaway: if they are always going to drop the "boss is a lawyer" bit, how awful is this place going to be to live? It seems ominous already and I don't even live there. I could lawyer up too (I have needed to before). But why would you want to put that energy out there. If a "lawyer" is taking actual months to draw up such an advantageous lease for them, where will that leave us? Up shit creek, that's where. I literally never have seen an apartment put move ins on hold to write up a more self serving lease. Josie seemed nice, but I felt put off ultimately by the constant "my boss is a lawyer," name dropping. I was told, no bankruptcies, period. Everyone says that. I had a hard time physically and lost a business. Hence, the bankruptcy, several years ago. My credit is solid now, really good. Most NORMAL people can figure that out. Then Josie says, "for 7 years or more." They clearly do not have a clue on what they are doing. After 7 years, you actually can file ANOTHER bankruptcy. Not that I'm planning on it, but that's what the 7 years mark is. I was really shocked that she didn't know the basics of that. My credit is good enough to obtain a mortgage at this point (I have spoken to a lender), but not rent at the Mellmanor. Maybe it's a nice place, I will never know. Good luck to you, fellow apartment hunters.

I didnt have much issues with the property other than my water pipe in the shower coming out brown…read morefor the first few seconds. Management said thats normal and it will go away. After a year living there it never went away. I stayed in apartment 8 facing the freeway, at night the walkway lights never worked so you could not see our building which made it feel unsafe especially in the evening for my wife walking alone. Its easy for anyone to hide in the bush and mug her. Once in the early morning I heard people rummaging into the apartments below me and then hurried off into a car. I reported it to management suggesting fixing the lights, they said they would and never did. My biggest gripe is how the management handles your move out. Dont expect to get your deposit, and in fact expect to pay on top of it. I took care of the apartment very well. Never wore shoes in the house, and had very little guests over in my year there. It was just me, my wife, and newborn son. Before moving out We cleaned the property thoroughly, vacuumed, and steamed the floor. We never mounted anything, or even touched the walls. First we agreed on a date and time for my final move out (afternoon slot) and an hour before it the property manager conveniently emails to cancel instead of calling. I show up, shes present and says they did the walk through in the morning without giving me a notice. I get my final statement, and they charged me for paint ($90.00), carpet repair, and cleaning. On top of my deposit that they took I had to pay extra. Again, we were clean and simple residents. What they charged me would be for anything outside normal wear and tear, but even at that there was nothing damaged, or needing to be replaced that we caused. They sent pictures of the wall with a little paint scuff smaller than a penny, and charged $90 to repair that. So it looks like they do this to every resident moving out, but dont actually do the work, because if they did especially the paint then I wouldnt have to pay anything because we didnt damage any walls. They basically pass all the fees that come with preparing for the next resident onto previous residents which isnt right especially if you didnt do anything to damage the property. I hope this helps anyone considering moving here. This is the first time Ive dealt with property managers like this. Your deposit should come back to you if you've respected the property.

I believe ownership & management are only interested in lining their own pockets to take days off at Petco Park. At one point, the barbecue grill actually had mold in it. The only thing you can really count on is The Cove La Mesa increasing the rent 10% annually. One bedrooms are about $2600 and two bedrooms go for about $3000 minimum. I would not recommend this apartment complex to anybody who's trying to save money in San Diego.

I lived here for over two years and I loved it!…read more Assigned parking spots AND lots of guest parking available, two BBQs with tables to sit at, and a big grass patch for pets to do their business. I personally like that there isn't a pool, gym etc. because then I am not paying for something that I may or may not use. The front office is very nice and quick with any questions. The maintenance team is visibly around every day and answers trouble calls quickly, even calling to see what a good time for you is. My car never got broken into, and I always saw patrol officers driving around the property. The grounds are well kept, and the community is well lit at night. There are no hidden fees, and they did not raise my rent when I renewed. Some "CONS" is the neighbors above me had a toddler and I could hear them walking/running around their apartment. I could also hear their washer or maybe their dishwasher running at night. I never complained because I just didn't let it bother me. I saw one homeless person one time around the BBQs, but he wasn't harming anyone. Someone else parked in my parking spot one time. If you are on the first floor, the windows are a little too "see through" at night with the lights on, so I bought blackout curtains and put them up. If there are multiple dogs in the turf area at once, you may hear them barking at each other for a short amount of time. Some mornings or night I would smell Marijuana in the area. Overall, I loved my time here!
