The inside of this baker is beautiful. Very large, nicely decorated. One of the best spots around town to get some authentic Arabic pasties & delicates. My friend is Lebanese and she spend over $80 in this place. The customer service wasn't the best. It took a while for us to get greeted for assistance, and the whole interaction with the employee seem like she was bothered that we were purchasing so many items. It was quite hectic and upon arriving back home to Cleveland we even noticed we missed a few deserts at the restaurants. The employee most have gave some of our order to another customer by mistake since she almost did that once but we corrected her. The deserts were REALLY delicious though. This place is fantastic! For everyone who has a sweet tooth - it is a paradise of a place! Make sure to get a number first to secure your spot in the line. I honestly haven't seen such a selection of middle eastern pastries and desserts in my entire life. Frankly, we were overwhelmed with choices and it was very tempting to try everything! Shatila never disappoints. They are the crown jewel of Dearborn. No matter what you get, it's going to be phenomenal.

This is the kind of popular place people like it say is overrated, but they are wrong. The sheer variety makes it the perfect one-stop shop for all your baked goods. Is it the best [blank] you've ever had? Only sometimes, but it's still always good and will satisfy your craving for [blank]. My personal favorite here is the cheese pie. Soft crust with some slight chewy cheese, light with no overpowering flavors. Delicious. All the Middle Eastern pastries I've tried have been good and they don't skimp on the nuts. They even sprinkle sprinkle crushed pistachio all over your pastries once they're in the tray if you want! I've tried a few of the French pastries in the past but don't get them anymore. They're fine but just doesn't make sense to get here when the others are so good. I also really like their ice cream. Last time I went was the first time I got ice cream there and I don't think I can ever go back without getting a scoop of the kashta pistachio. The rose is pretty strong, but that's why I like it. The only downside is that ordering can be very stressful. When they take numbers when it's busy it's a little easier, otherwise there's not really an order to things. Someone might look at you and ask if you need help and them the pointing of the pastries commences. (There are usually no labels on the Middle Eastern pastries.) The people who have worked here that I've interacted with have all been very helpful and nice. THEY NEED TO OPEN ONE IN CALIFORNIA!!!! I only came here because I was visiting family in the area. And I was so so so happy with this place. It's a DESSERT HEAVEN. It's a pretty big bakery, with lots of seating so it's good for families. The bakery is decorated with palm trees and lights. They have an ice cream counter on one side and the bakery place on the other. There's definitely going to be a line (there was one even though it was pouring rain outside) but it's worth it!! The classic thing ( a MUST get) is baklava!!! I usually only like homemade baklava but I think Shatila's does a great job not making it too sweet or too nutty. And because it's fresh it doesn't taste stale. They have boxes that are perfect to take as gifts if you're traveling. And to take some home with you!!!! I liked their ice cream as well! But ice cream is always good. It was definitely creamy and they had a nice variety of flavors but if you're coming here, you're coming here for more than just the ice cream. The last thing I tried were a lot of things. The pastries!! Before getting into their taste, they just LOOK absolutely perfect. They're really decorated super nicely and look so pretty! It makes you want to get them even if you don't want to eat them. But you WILL want to them. We got a box of a different variety of them and no joke, ALL of them were good. I didn't come across one that I didn't like. Their whipped cream is really fluffy and light but not too sugary. The cakes are moist. The fillings are really flavorful. Just great! I have never seen or experienced anything like this bakery in my life (besides Korean bakeries in big cities such as LA or Atlanta)!! I hate to admit my knowledge of middle eastern and Mediterranean is lacking, so I honestly did not know many of the desserts here besides the basic ones such as baklava. The shop is a little overwhelming with how many different types of pastries and desserts they carry, but in a good way. We had the pistachio ice cream and a couple of baklava and it was heavenly. It tasted authentic, and definitely beats the baklava you get at a local grocery or even middle eastern grocery stores. The baklava tasted fresh and not too overtly sweet. It also had a nice subtle, nutty flavor with the crunch of pistachios. The ice cream I heard was a crowd favorite and I definitely agree. I just love how the desserts aren't too artificially sweet! Why should you come to Shatila? This bakery is a magnificent gem of middle-eastern pastries, desserts, and sweet treats. One of the best bakeries in all of Michigan. You're missing out if you don't come here. What should you get? Anything middle-eastern. They serve both a variety of western stuff (cakes, tiramisu, tarts), and solid middle-eastern stuff, but the middle-eastern pastries are excellent and have intricate flavors. The western stuff can be a hit or miss. For starters, get Knafeh/Kunafa (sweet cheese and phyllo pastry, served with pistachios and syrup) or anything with Ashta (cheese/clotted cream made with rose water) in it. They also have a large variety of baklava and nutty sweets. Moreover, I highly recommend getting pistachio ice-cream from the an ice-cream bar, along with some coffee/espresso. There's plenty of seating, they have indoor palm trees with christmas-type lighting everywhere - it's an aesthetically uplifting dessert-eating experience. I haven't been here during a time it hasn't been crowded, this place is highly popular, but there's ample free parking. read more

There was a bit of a crowd when I went on a weekday afternoon. To the right of the door is their ice cream set up, then on the opposite side are two display counters, one with French pastries and one with Middle Eastern pastries. Then a place to take a ticket like at the deli. While I was waiting for my number to be called, I browsed each section. None of the Middle Eastern pastries were labelled and besides the baklava, I had no idea what anything was and there was a large variety of items to choose from. There was an electronic menu board scrolling through options, but without knowing what they were, this didn't help. I did see the option for a half mixed tray of the Middle Eastern pastries and settled on that. When I browsed the French pastry section, I was a bit worried. These didn't look that appealing and it made me wonder at the quality of product I was about to buy. I am so glad to report how wrong I was. It has been a while since I have been truly impressed with sweets and these were incredible. Most of the items in my mixed tray were some variation of phyllo, nuts and syrup so I had wondered if they would all taste the same. But they didn't. Some had whole cashews or pistachios, but my favorite were the rolls that were slender and about the size of a finger. The filling was tender and even though it looked as though it had been soaked in syrup, it was not too sweet. Shatila is so well known nation wide. Being from Los Angeles, I've received packages from friends but it was nice to be able to finally come into the shop and try fresh baklava. You really should just come in with a friend and just pick a bunch of small pastries and try it all. I usually only like the walnut pastries but tried the pistachio and wow it was actually better than the walnut ones. Other Yelpers got this place right...Shatila Bakery is amazing! Dearborn has a large Middle Eastern population, so there's quite a few Arabic restaurants and bakeries in the area. Shatila has me hooked after just one visit. The bakery is gorgeous inside, with lots of open space and natural lighting. The palm trees are a nice touch...I'm not sure if they're real though. The bakery consists of about half middle eastern pastries and half French. They also have gelato and smoothies made fresh to order. The only middle eastern pastry I was familiar with was baklava, but the other two items I ordered were really delicious too! The rose water infused syrup that they come with is so nice and fragrant. The French pastries and cakes were gorgeous and colorful with a nice assortment of fresh fruit, custard, and chocolate ganache. Check out the pics! What was most surprising was the prices! Everything is so reasonably priced! Most of pastries were just $1 and the cakes started at $15-$20 I think! If you were to get the same items at Koko Bakery back in Cleveland, you'd pay 2.5 to 3 times as much! The workers were every friendly too and answered any questions we had. Been to Shatila Bakery four times now they have a good variety of Arabic/ middle eastern sweets, ice cream and some hot breakfast items too. We came early this time about 7-7:30am best time no crowd! and the best part no parking lot shenanigans either! I had their kunafa it was okay kinda luck warm it's supposed to be hot...even the pastries were kinda stale the only thing that was done right was the zaatar pie that was good. There bathrooms are super disgusting!! so weird doesn't make sense because the restaurant is spotless. Service is super shady most times!...you gotta be on point or you'll get past over and cut in front of! read more

This place is the real deal for all your sugar cravings! Shatila has all the top notch quality pastries/cakes and many other Mediterranean sweets options. The inside is set up so you can see all the pastry products behind the counter and choose from them. I have a very extensive love-hate relationship with Shatila Bakery. Growing up in Dearborn as a Lebanese-American, Shatila was the gold standard for Middle Eastern desserts. There were very few places doing what they were doing at such a grand scale. My own mother used to actually work for the company taking orders over the phone. My family enjoys their selection of traditional desserts like baklava, kanafa, atayef, and their pistachio ice cream. They also do make cakes, both large and small, but I really don't recommend them becauase they don't taste very moist or flavorful. I have two main issues with Shatila Bakery though. Less important is that while most of the sweets are great, they aren't really that special when you consider there are so many other places now that make what they make and often do it better. The best analogy for this is Gino's East in Chicago. It's a really good pizza, but it is a tourist trap. If you take the time to do more research you can find better Chicago-style deep dish pizza in that city. When you go to Shatila you are mostly going for the brand, and the inside is quite majestic for those out of towners that have never step foot in it. Food items aside, the biggest issue with this bakery is their staff. There are very few businesses with people that are as rude as they are here. One time I made mention of this on Instagram and somebody from the bakery privately messaged me to tell me that I needed to show the business more respect because of some critiques I made. Most places would try to learn from their mistakes by listening to customer feedback, but in this instance I basically got attacked for it. I guess this only adds to the charm of Shatila Bakery. If it wasn't for my upbringing and the memories I really doubt I'd ever come back here, even if it's only 2-3 times a year now read more
