It was like a long puff pastry type of baked good. The place was busy, but there was a lot of staff working and they were all very friendly and you could tell they loved what they do there because they just bragged about how good their baked goods were. It was very clean and bright. Lots of baked goods as well as coffees and some handhelds. I have a sweet tooth so it was like heaven to me. A friend took me to visit this place while I was in town visiting. The bakery does appear small from the outside but it is extended in the back. Upon entry everything smells so good. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty crowded so be prepared to be shoulder to shoulder with other customers. There were so many options to choose from. The customer service was mediocre nothing special the employees were fairly busy. I tried a few items and everything tasted fresh. I would recommend for a sweet treat or any occasion. The staff are very nice and extremely helpful. Making recommendations on which selections are best. They also have merchandise such as mugs, aprons, hats and tote bags. Their branding is amazing and very prominent throughout the bakery. Amazing service and ambiance at Mexicantown bakery. I walked in and was impressed with the amount of pasteries and choices at this bakery. I almost wanted a try a little bit of everything. They had free samples of tres leches and cookies. I tried the chocolate tres leches and it was delicious. All the pastries looked fresh and delicious. I opted for a cheese and raspberry filled croissant. I was happy with the size of the pastry and it made it convenient I could pick my own. We got a few items to share and everything was enjoyable and tasty. I really liked the pink and yellow pastries (concha), but the cake and meringues were good too. And I would say, considering the prices of things these days, they were reasonable as well. The decor is pretty simple and the service was good, but I definitely felt that getting there at 8:30. This place is good. Really good. Perhaps even the best in all of Southwest. But someone needs to call out the coffee service. Cold brew means one thing...and it is more expensive because of that process. And getting a black iced coffee is unweildly and next to impossible...and "cold brew" it is not. Today's black iced coffee was two cups of ice and a watered down ukewarm coffee. Another day I was smart enough to get an espresso on ice with water. With the amount of coffee drinks they serve, they should be getting it right. Being called out here is probably the best way to get them to course correct and train their employees. read more

They have different flavors including traditional, chocolate, caramel and Pina colada. They come in different sizes and shapes. They also sell it by the slice. It's the perfect cake to bring for a celebration. The bakery also serves variety of other baked goods and pastries. I tried the spiral croissant with pistachio frosting. I thought the filling inside would also have pistachio cream but it was just plain vanilla custard. The croissant itself was a bit bland and not as fresh tasting as I was hoping for. My boyfriend FaceTimed me while he was at this bakery. Their selection looked wonderful and I asked for him to bring me back a traditional concha. It tasted really good. It was soft with a crispy top and lightly sweetened taste. I wish I could talk more about the other treats, but I am unable to at this time. As for service my boyfriend said they were helpful and nice. They also spoke both English and Spanish and helped him find a concha since he had no idea what I was talking about LOL. We made an impromptu visit to Detroit's Mexicantown neighborhood on an unseasonably warm day. The bakery is across the street from Clark Park, has easy street parking, and had the most amazing selection of sweet treats. And then we saw the case of warm savory items, and our lunch plan was set - empanadas and treats in the park. The hardest thing was picking, and the Buttercream Yo Yo won. It was huge and flavorful and satisfying. The two empanadas I tried were equally good - one with chicken and one with ham and cheese. The prices were great and the service was friendly. I was so excited to try this bakery. They have a decent selection of Mexican sweet bread but unfortunately, after trying it, I found some of it was stale. I got a traditional concha and that one was soft and tasted just like it's supposed to but everything else was disappointing. The mini conchas - were hard and inedible. The polvoron was dry. We wanted to love this place because where we are from every grocery store has a big selection almost like this but fresh. We have gone here three times in case it was a fluke and it wasn't. Between the rude young workers gossiping and chatting rather than actually helping I wouldn't suggest this place for pastries. The tres leche was decent but overpriced. And we were put off too because they didn't even let my small child use their bathroom.
