I've never gotten more attitude in a place before. Employees tryna give me zero reasons to be nice

Shatila has some of the best baklava I have ever had. I always stop by for a gift tray or two whenever I visit family or friends out of state. Everyone I've ever given a tray to before always asks for more the next time I visit - that's an ode to how delicious these treats are! This most recent time, I stopped by for a tray to bring to the in-laws and a shouibieh for myself, which I had never had before. Pistachio Shouibieh - A very slightly salty and tangy ashta cream pairs well with the sugar syrup infused phyllo and the crumbled pistachios on top. There's also a small dash of fruit jelly/jam on top. Overall very good. If you come in the afternoon, be prepared to wait! It can take 30+ minutes before your number gets called if you come during peak times. I always try to come in the morning if I can to avoid the lines. Note: I specifically am specifically reviewing the baklava and middle eastern treats here! The western-style desserts and cakes are mediocre in my experience. The one time I had one of the mini cakes here it tasted kind of stale. I guess they don't have as much turnover since most people come here for the other items. read more

I bought 2 boxes of baklava on February 2026 and they are bad. I used to buy baklava from Shatila Bakery every year and it was very good, but unfortunately recently it is bad. I am disappointed this time because of baklava quality. read more

Shatila is a don't miss when you are in the Detroit/Dearborn area and have a sweet tooth. We went on a Saturday night an hour before closing and it was was pretty busy with barely any available tables and seats. We got lucky and snagged a table as a family just left. It's definitely more enjoyable to have the dessert there than in my hotel room. I am not too familiar with Middle Eastern pastries and treats so I asked the worker helping me behind the counter to explain some of the items. He gave me samples and was so patient with me as I tried to make up my mind what I wanted to get and how much I wanted to get. I ordered a knafeh and some baklawas to go. At another counter I ordered a scoop of banana flavored ice cream with crushed pistachios on top as a topping. All really delicious and sweet. Definitely check out Shatila if you are into Middle Eastern treats are would like to try Middle Eastern treats. Very well-known bakery! Even people in Ohio have heard of it! It's very busy here. You walk in and take a number if you want the Pastries. If you want ice cream and I think the cakes, you don't need to take a number. It's pretty chaotic. For a Sunday afternoon, it was still pretty busy. It's best to stand sorta near the counter where they're calling numbers so that you don't miss your chance. Once they call your number, you can point at what you want. Nothing is labeled so I wasn't super familiar with most stuff except the baklava. I'm not sure if there's a credit card minimum, but there used to be one. The prices aren't bad. Most items are around $1-3, as far as I know. But it can add up quickly. Lots of families came with small kids, and im sure kids want all the sweets! You can even order boxes of baklava if you want! A lot of the items are pretty sugary. BUT you can get sugar free upon request. Parking wasn't my fave. It gets tight and fills up fast. And people don't park well. Not sure when I'll be back since it's a bit out of the way for me, but it's a place you must visit when you come to Detroit. read more

Authentic middle eastern delicacies! I ordered a large mixed baklava platter and my family devoured it all. Our favorites were the "fingers," traditional walnut and pistachio baklavas, and the rose ones. They taste great with tea or coffee on the side- they even pair well with vanilla ice cream! Shatila is our go to spot for the best middle eastern treats for any celebrations and gifts to family and friends! They have the best and fresh bakhlawas in USA, absolutely delicious. We usually order the big box of sweets for gifting purposes which costs about $34 but they have many other options that range between $10-$15 too. Very reasonable and extremely good prices. They have a huge range of cakes and one slice pastries too and their pistachio icecream is a rage in Michigan. Make sure you pick a ticket as soon as you get in - you buy first and then pay. The place is absolutely beautiful. Inside has a gorgeous aesthetic that is very clean and elegant. The place was very busy so it took about 15 minutes to get in an order. The pastries and baked goods look so good. But I must say the looks are very deceiving. The food tasted very bland and seemed as if it was baked the day before. The food wasn't fresh at all. A baklava-lover's paradise. Here you'll find a huge selection of Mediterranean pastries with some other European style desserts (e.g. cakes, macarons, tarts) and ice cream just because. Dedicated parking lot makes parking easy for you and all your dessert-loving friends/family. Make sure to grab a number when you come in. The staff (mostly boisterous young Middle Eastern men) will shout out your number. They're multilingual and very patient as you point out the different things that spark joy. I was a particular fan of the Birdnest and Osmaliye - both manage to be delicate while maintaining their structure (helps to have honey gluing everything together!), with a balanced buttery, nutty profile. Be pleasantly shocked by how cheap everything is. Once you finish selecting your wares, you'll be directed to the communal check-out counter where your order is wrapped expertly in plastic wrap. Sheets of baklava (sugar-free and traditional) are also available to order by the tray and are hand-packed there with a packet of pistachio powder. Baklava tends to be on the sweeter side but makes great gifts. You'll find instructions for how best to store the baklava on the side of the box, along with helpful pictures and captions of the different types of baklava. There's plenty of seating in the tropical-themed dining area. Beyond the pastries, pretty much everything else is self-serve: water, napkins, and cleaning your table. Staff are pretty hands off in the dining area so don't plan on waiting too long for someone to wipe down the tables. Soap dispenser was out in the ladies' room so had to stick with hand sanitizer to clean up my honeyed hands. But at least the bathroom stalls were clean. read more

Nice place to buy an assortment of ethnic middle eastern desserts in Michigan. Everything is freshly made in house, tastes and looks great! They have fantastic selection - Pistachios, cashews, walnut, cream so many varieties. They have sweet, semi sweet, sugar free and vegan options too. A delicious sweet treat for anytime! The place is always busy. Take the token and wait for your number to be called. We waited for a while to get our turn. Nice interior seating surrounded by palm trees and lighting. They also have homemade ice cream in many fruit flavors like mango and strawberry. The pistachio ice cream is the best! This place is 30 minutes from my home but completely worth the drive! I always get the combination and pistachio varieties are my favorite. Their pistachio comes daily from Turkey, which means it's freshest and highest quality. Okay quite literally the best Baklava I've probably ever had outside of the Middle East! We got the Kanafeh also and the cheese was just so melted and creamy, it just melted in your mouth. The Baklava also was so delicious. We went when it was busy time so service was a little slow. We walked down to the bakery after dinner. Take a number and fight through the crowds. The employee had a hard time hearing any of the women in my party, but we managed to get many items we wanted to try. Great value and really unique options. The syrup was served separately to not make things a soggy mess. Thank you! Outside seating on a beautiful night was perfect. There is a water bar with the napkins, or buy a bottle. My boyfriend absolutely loves weather baklava and while visiting his hometown, we just had to stop in for a snack! While I could not tell you everything we got, I will tell you that this is the most authentic Middle Eastern place I've been to. We first learned about Shatila Bakery while watching one of the many food shows on TV we used to watch from several years ago; I've forgotten which one. I made a note of it, found it on Yelp, and bookmarked it for future. Because it is across town for us I waited for a time when we would need to be in the Dearborn area. After several years we finally were going to be in Dearborn for a real estate closing and decided to include a stop at Shatila to celebrate. We were impressed at the size and number of baked goods and pastries on display as well as a small cafe on one end for coffee, tea, and other drinks and a dining area with small tables in the center for sit down snacking. It was fairly busy when we were there but people were generally maintaining a safe distance from each other while being mesmerized by all the goodies. We made a casual walk-through looking at each display case before we zeroed in on what we wanted to buy. When our number was called, a nice young lady asked if we knew what we wanted. We had picked two items from the French Pastry area; then I shared it was our first time here and asked if she would recommend a couple of popular items for us as we were not familiar with most of the fascinating things on display. She suggested two of the more popular items that looked quite interesting. They also offer a number of sugar-free choices as well. We sat at a small table to eat the French Pastries that were both really good but the favorite for both of us was the plain looking moist multi-layer cake with a light chocolate frosting that reminded us of Tiramisu. One of my colleagues had suggested I come by here when my friends and I were in the area this past summer. The ordering can be a little chaotic here, but the workers were pretty patient with us as we pointed out what we wanted. I'm not as familiar with the various types of Middle Eastern desserts, but most of the selection there did seem to be different kinds of baklava that were either in different shapes or had different nut fillings. I'm not quite sure what I ended up getting, but it was way cheaper than I had expected and it was some of the best baklava I've ever had. Apparently, this place does not have anyone to clean. I told the staff at least four times in a matter of 15 minutes that the men's restroom was disgusting. I told the young man at the registered about the problem, and he said, he shrugged his shoulders and went back to playing on his phone. Someone shit all over the toilet. And the floor was dirty. The manager came out and then walked away. My wife went into the ladies room, and there was dry shit splatter on the bottom of the toilet seat. I guess being clean and sanitary is not a priority for this bakery. So disappointing. read more

I got a whole box of assorted baklavas to take back home to California with me. I also took a small assortment to snack on and eat as dessert, and also to eat during my travels on the train the next day. When I flew up to Detroit from South Florida, there was only one food on my mind: Shatila's knafeh. Unfortunately, I arrived at midnight, so I had to wait half a day, but it was worth it! The pastry was crispy, the cheese was so flavorful and melty, ooey, gooey, and I'm so glad that they put the sugar syrup and pistachios on the side. Normally I would try just a little of each, but what the heck, I'm on vacation - I smothered this delicacy in both, and savored every single bite. If you're not Arab don't waste your time coming here... they do not follow the number system and welcome whoever looks or speaks Arabic. I've been coming here for the last 20+ years before back when they had the original shop off of Warren. When confronted about it the "manager" said they follow the number system and told me to calm down. Spent $125 on sweet and I'm not coming back. It's sad to see this business is failing. Got a few pasteries from here and they were good, especially for the price. Descriptions of the various pasteries would be helpful, they all look very similar but it's impossible to know what is in each one. It's kind of a fun surprise trying them as none of them are bad, but there are definitely some better ones than others. The baklavas from this shop is bomb and I say that having tried many kinds of baklavas in Turkey. Their selection from was great, and I think would be a bit overwhelming for those not familiar with the desserts they're selling.
