I love it here. The girls in the front are nice, there is safety Covid precautions so I felt really safe, the girls in the back are so so so patient too. I was worried she'd have a major meltdown but they are really good with kids. (18mos went without a hitch, 2yr old meltdown was in full effect and they still all handled it with grace and I am soooo grateful). I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Kobayashi. She is so good with Zha Zha. I wish she was my dentist too. Lol. (The only one star review on here is from a tourist who was probably an anti masker). Thank you for all that you do. I am so happy with my decision.

We've had a mixed experience in the several years we've been going, as there have been turnovers in staff & dentists during that time. Many staff are nice, handing out toys, etc to the kids & greeting them warmly. However a few are unprofessional. One hygienist actually started talking very loudly laughing at how big my oldest kids cavity was saying over & over "big cavity big cavity look!" There was little awareness of how upsetting this was for my daughter, who was sitting right in the treatment chair. When we met with the dentist there was no sit down explanation of the x-ray or exam findings or clear plan. Just "there are cavities see (vague pointing at multiple x-rays for multiple kids) schedule to fix them." We literally left having to read the forms given on their treatment plans to figure out how many cavities each had etc. If I hadn't been well informed on different kinds of fillings etc they would have just put metal in. They were professional as far as billing & breakdown of costs & working with insurance, which was great. It's hard to get in for procedures recently due to a new dentist, so my kids went 4 months between knowing they had cavities & being able to get in to get them fixed. Now they have more damage that could have been avoided. Hopefully the scheduling will improve with more staff!

JUST AN FYI FOR DENTAL PATIENTS…read more.. Re: Hawaii Family Dental at Kaahumanu Center... Last month our regular dentist in Kihei put a temporary filling in my husband's front, lower tooth that was bothering him and said it needed to be extracted. It would need to be done surgically because of the condition of the tooth and the fact it was impacted, so they set up a referral appointment for Dec. 19th at Hawaii Family Dental at Kaahumanu Center. They gave us an estimate of a little over $300 for the procedure. We live on limited Social Security income, so started saving for the appointment. Last week the filling came out and the tooth broke off. There wasn't much pain except for the sharp edge which was cutting the inside of my husband's lip and tongue. We called the Kaahumanu office and they nicely arranged for the extraction to be done on Oct. 10th. When we arrived, the nice ladies in front collected $150 because we told her we didn't have the full $325 or so needed, took my debit card info and agreed to run it on Oct. 29th for the balance owing. After a bit of a wait, the nurse came into the examination room to take 2 X-rays, and Terry told her he would need Nitrous due to the fact he had gone through a dental surgery many years ago where the doctor crushed a molar while extracting it and, as a result, Terry is a "white knuckle" patient. She informed him that would be an additional $158, due and payable prior to surgery. Terry told her we are having to save up for the procedure as is, and couldn't come up with that much that day. Since we couldn't pay the $158 that day, Terry asked that the doctor just grind down the edge that was cutting his lip and tongue, as we had originally requested for that day, until the extraction appointment, so he would be okay until the scheduled appointment Dec. 19th. The doctor walked into the room, struck a rather comical pose and very snottily informed him, "I am a SURGEON and I don't do that!" So we left... with the broken tooth still gouging Terry's mouth inside the lip. We asked them to apply the $150 already paid towards the original appointment for Dec. 19th, then went home and used our Dremel ourselves to grind the sharp edge.................. since we AREN'T surgeons and we DO what is needed to relieve pain and damage! On Oct. 13th I called their billing dept and complained. I also requested the $150 we prepaid be refunded since Dr. Sahdev didn't do anything. After a bit of a delay the woman came back and informed us they could only refund twenty some odd dollars since the doctor DID "consult" with the patient. I informed her that was unacceptable. She said she would have her supervisor call me back. I still had not received the promised callback by the 15th, so called once again, after discovering through my online banking app that the charge had posted to my account on Oct. 14th, in full ($150). Once again, I was told a supervisor would call me back. Here it is, Oct. 16th. My husband still has a tooth that needs to come out. We've filed the sharp edges ourselves so he's not in pain. We are out $150 for nothing and their billing department supervisor STILL has not seen fit to return my call. Would we recommend this practice to anyone else? Absolutely NOT!

I didn't feel no pain at all, she have a gentle hand and work proficiently. She was very focus and well prepared with her equipment to finish her job on a timely manner. A couple of weeks later, I had another appointment with Dr Eugene Talmadge. Like he has been, professional and very knowledgeable. He has been the one helping me for my dental issues, and he is always consistent. Dr Wis also helped me recently, he too was very friendly and comical, yet did a great job on my special dental issues. I keep coming back to this location because of the staffs and their compassion on their job. I always observe every places I go, from food industry, hospitality and dental/medical offices, to other things, I always observe very meticulously on small details. This location has not disappointed me. Thank you for all the staffs, from the front desk checking in patients, to the last person that checks patients out, you are all great!

From a personal perspective, Da Hui is really the embodiment of an epicenter of aloha and kokua for people. The fact that they offer care for total body wellness is amazing (they even have a therapy pool for folks getting back into shape wanting to join an aqua aerobic class). Every single staff member makes you feel like you were the reason that they went into health care. THATS how special I feel each one makes my patients feel. It is in the delivery and grace that makes their medical practice, that much more important to the community they serve. Trash was overflowing onto the countertop in their patient restroom and toilet seat looked like it hadn't been sanitized in quite awhile. Ick. *Office claimed they all wear their masks all the time, but that's not true. A couple of employees quickly put their masks on when they saw patients walking in. *Staff that remained after 5:00 pm had no clue about what was arranged with staff from earlier in the day. * Assistant was very rude. Brought my family member out and made it very obvious she was not happy when she spoke with the receptionist about the next appointment. When I asked her a question she just walked off. I've worked in dentistry for over 27 years and I am surprised that our experience was as bad as it was. I truly thought that the Uehara's would have a well -educated and professional staff. Hopefully, it's just a few bad apples. However, we won't be returning.

My parents and I chalked it up to me getting braces off and maybe not brushing properly with them, but now that I see it's happened to many others...yikes. We should've gotten a second opinion. They took about 5 hours for a couple fillings they said would take only 1-2 hours and kept messing up my anesthesia. They also didn't believe me when I said I needed more anesthetic than most due to genetics and I felt every. single. thing. They originally gave me the absolute bare minimum anesthetic and I had to ask for more probably 3-4 times. They didn't believe me until they decided to drill and I flinched/yelped so loud that they finally gave me more injections. Then they left the room for so long it wore off by the time they returned and had to redo the process from scratch. To top this off, in a later appointment they fit one of my crowns so horrifically I couldn't bite down properly for a year and I've had lasting TMJ and asymmetrical muscles in my face ever since. In retrospect, my family and I probably should've pursued legal action, but it's so long in the past now that I'd just severely warn everyone to stay away.
