I recently got into DE shaving and I prefer dealing with a local shop instead of mail order. Found this place via Google and since I am often in Torrance, this seemed like a good place to try. Went in with my wife and immediately fell in love with extensive selection of razors, brushes and other shaving supplies. The owner came up and asked how he could help. I let him know I mainly wanted to find a new shaving cream and browse the other razors and ask his opinion of the many different ones available. They had a large selection of shaving cream and had sample container for customers to try the fragrance. He let my wife and I smell each one without rushing us. We decided on the Taylor of Old Bond Street tobacco leaf cream. I liked the fragrance quite a bit and my wife loved it and since she needs to smell me.... He then took plenty of time to go over the many different razors. I was not planning on buying a new on but he told me about the virtues of a slant head razor. At no time did he put pressure on me to buy, but I was intrigued and wound up getting a Merkur 39C. Prices on the Merkur and the cream were very reasonable, comparable to the online shops. I did ask to buy a five pack of Feather blades. I have never used them but wanted to try these legendary sharp blades. The owner gave me the five pack for free and also threw in a five pack of his preferred blades, the Gillette Nacet. It was really nice to go into a store where there is a large selection of items to browse and have a proprietor who is extremely knowledgeable about the subject at hand and is more than willing to take the time to share the knowledge. I was coming and out of the dsw and went next door for some foot knowledge at the foot shop then decided to walk into the shave shop. I've lived here in the southbay for 34 years I figured why not. I was pleasantly surprised and glad to have walked into the shaver shop. I met the sweetest lady there that had a great deal of knowledge about all things for male grooming. I purchased an old fashioned razor with the blades...but for your mustache maintenance. The best little purchase I made looking forward to using it. Walked in here and asked them to repair my clippers. He pretty much took 5-10 seconds to fix it. I insisted on paying for his service but he said he didn't fix anything , so I just offered to buy something and he sold me a brush. It is the best place to go when an electric shaver repair is needed.  Don't waste your time, energy and money going elsewhere. Family owned. Came in with a broken Norelco shaver. Great thing is they had the part and put in the new part without any problem. They went the extra mile to lube some of the parts like the hinges that looked a little worn. They have shaving equipment supplies if you need. I never would have ever thought of coming here. I personally don't shave a whole lot, those asian genes make me almost hairless. However, I've been to the Shaver Shop a few times to get an Andis electric hair shaver. I was looking for a specific model of Andis shavers for pet grooming. This first time I came here was a few years ago. The man helping me out was awesome, he knew his shit. He explained everything and even made some helpful suggestions. So now I return to this shaving speciality shop for a replacement blade. I called in ahead of time to make sure they had it available and sure enough they did. So I drove over to Torrance and got my blade for $12!! I did some research online, and their prices are very comparable. Not overpriced at all. This store sells other things besides Andis shavers...it's pretty much a barbershops supply center....from trimmers to clippers to those brush duster thingies, you name it, they had it. They even had some knives and sharp stuff. It's all very foreign to me, but it was cool to experience and the service is great! read more

The Shaver Shop on Hawthorne Blvd is a great place. They do a terrific job on knives and scissors and are reasonably priced. (Lower price than we have paid in the past at other places.) They also fixed a pair of expensive broken scissors as well as sharpening them. They are also very nice people. You might have to wait a few days longer than some another place but DEFINITELY worth the wait. read more

I visited the store for knife sharpening. After they advised the time it would take I decided against this. Then something stunning happened.... they didn't upsell me, but after I said how impressed I was with some of the shaving gear they had, they spent time asking me about what I liked to shave with and I discussed my regimen. They suggested I try a shaving cream I'd never heard of, and I've been using it for three months and absolutely love it (Taylor of Old Bond Street). I was in store yesterday inquiring about sharpening scizzors and knives. Pick up time was in several weeks to come. I asked why does it take so long? (thinking maybe they have lots of orders). The blond behind the counter said "it's not your business", right in front of another customer and the sharpener. Very unprofessional. You do not treat customers like that. Would she should have said was "we have lots of orders and we are working as fast as we can, sorry." A little customer friendly. I do not recommend to go there. read more

Came in to get some parts for my old Panasonic electric razor. They didn't have the parts due to Panasonic trying to keep all sales to them selves. But, found a new store to buy my Shave soap and after shave products. Owner, Roger, was very informative and a nice guy. His wife, Marsha, was there too and super nice. They had their dogs there too. I'll never go here again! The employee was nice and willing to help but the owner was SO rude!!! I saw a razor I wanted and I asked her if she would be willing to give it to me cheaper since I saw it online for a way cheaper price.Basically, I was trying to cut a deal because it's worth a try and I wouldn't have been upset if she wasn't so rude. IT WENT LIKE THIS- I walked in and told the employee I saw the same exact razor on Amazon.com for $30 cheaper and wanted to know if they would lower the price OR I would pay the $97 if they would be willing to throw in a few boxs of razors. The employee then looked at another lady that was working with her and then said "I'm sorry, I can't do that because the owner isn't here", so I asked if there was any way she could contact the owner to ask; she then again looked at the other lady and as she started to speak, the other lady jumped in and said in a very rude tone, " Well this is the owner speaking to you now and I say NO, just buy it online." In shock, I reassured her, "I'll buy this off of you if you just throw in a box of razors, I don't mind paying that much for it that way since i wouldnt have to wait for it". Her final answer was, again very rude, "NOPE.Buy it on Amazon". I simply said OK and left and I've never been back and will NEVER go again. I did however, go a few days before to check it out and there was a guy working there that was very nice and I wish he was there when I tried to haggle because he probably would've given me the deal.Obviously she didn't want my business which is fine with me since I got my razor, 200 blades, AND FREE shipping for $90 on westcoastshaving.com. And FYI I placed the order on a Sunday and got it three days later. great site and fast shipping. If you have ever thought about getting your kitchen knives professionally sharpened this is the place to do it. I have a meat cleaver I use to open coconuts and never realized how seriously dull it was until I had it sharpened at the Shaver Shop. It is now razor sharp, seriously razor sharp. I just called to find out if they sharpen kitchen knives. They do. They charge $1 per inch of knife. They are busy, need to leave for a couple of days. This was my first time at the Shaver Shop and it was such a pleasant experience. The owners are such a nice welcoming couple. I had fun chatting with them. All was topped up with excellent choice of hard to find Taylors shaving creams and a stand for my shaving brush and shavette. They even gave me razors to test and see the difference in quality. I'm a straight razor user but wanted to check out DE razor shaving when I can't travel with a strop, hone, and other gear. I've checked out a couple places in SoCal as well as a few online places and I was surprised to find The Shaver Shop. If you are interested in DE wet shaving or are in need of electric shaver parts this is your place. I got a good deal on a Feather Stainless Shaver for less than you can find online. The owner is a and staff were helpful and understand customer service. If you are looking for straights, they have a sample of Dovos but it is not their strong suit. For the Yelp reviewer who wanted discounts & concessions for what they get on Amazon...you don't understand how brick and mortar stores need local support. I came here looking for a safety razor, just got fed up paying $20+ dollars for Mach 3 refills. I mentioned I was looking for a DE razor that was a good starter razor and got set up with a Merkur 34C. I mentioned I never used such a razor and the clerk (an older woman) was able to give me a few basic tips on how to grip the razor and at what angle to hold it. This was an excellent starter DE razor, first run with it resulted in no nicks or irritation. I would say it's safe to say the know their products. They got just about all shaving supplies you'd need and I also noticed a selection of straight razors, pocket knifes and even kitchen knives. The reason for the 4/5 is that I've only been here once, so I may add in that 5th star after subsequent visits. read more

I have been enjoying this shop since the 1980's and have made many purchases of shaver products for myself and as gifts. Top quality stuff and Marsha and Roger have always been the best. I live further away now but still make a trip there like I did this week to get my high end Braun shaver repaired. Bringing in my Oster dog clippers there for repair and blade sharpening when I pick up the Braun. Also will be buying some more best quality double edge blades for the cool German shaver I bought from them when I first discovered them. It's like visiting old friends. Sure, I could buy and deal online, but why? This place has a pretty good selection of higher end hair clippers and trimmers . . . the one's that you won't find at the big box retailers. I bought the Wahl Cordless Designer hair clipper. It's the kind of product that you can find all over the internet, but isn't so easy to find at brick and mortar retailers. Since I prefer to buy from brick and mortar shops I did a "barbers supplies" search on Yelp, I only found about 5 places that carried the Cordless Designer clipper in the whole L.A. area, and the Shaver Shop's price was right in the middle, And since they were the closest of the 5 places to my house this is where I went. As soon as I walked in the door I knew I had come to the right place. The man behind the counter was friendly, patient, and had a lot of knowledge to impart about my new clippers as well as some of the other clippers he had on the shelf. And since I opened the box right in his store he proceeded to give me a demonstration on the best way to keep my new clippers well lubricated. I'm not a barber, I just pretend to be one whenever I cut my own hair. On top of the great shop, there is a parking lot the size of a football field in front. read more

This store is one-of-a-kind! I was in dire need of a straight-razor (with replaceable heads) that did not cost an arm & a leg. I tried looking everywhere; Target, Walmart, etc. and no such luck in finding such straight-razor. (Straight-razors are those blades used to create a really nice edge along the beard to contour and give a nice looking jaw-line) after hours of looking, I searched "shave store," in which this little mom and pop shop appeared. My friend and I gave this little place a call and sure enough, they had what I was looking for in stock! The best part of this experience are the owners (in which I'm assuming), are the really awesome and helpful duo. The man that helped me was extremely helpful in walking me through using the razor and the woman exhibited stellar customer service and product knowledge. Overall they were both very helpful and informative in all of the shaving products they got. It's not as overpriced as other places. I would recommend dropping by this place. I got a new job, I'm a dog groomer. Trying to spruce up my equipment I attempted to change the blade drive, I did something wrong and couldn't fix it myself. I came in today to have him fix it for me. He did in about 30 seconds! I told him I'd be back to have them serviced. He said he could to do it right then, because I was starting my new job.
