I have to wonder if my recent experience was just a bad hire or something else? I called to check if an item was in stock and verify pricing - the woman who answered the phone was fairly abrupt (rude), "I'm with another customer right now." Anyhow she put me on hold, then got back to me, "Yeah, we have what you're looking for." 2 minutes later, I arrived and made my purchase. No pleasantries, no "thank you" upon completion of the transaction. I'm not sure if they're still capturing phone numbers and tracking sales, but that didn't happen either. I self-loaded my two 40 lb. sacks of water softener salt. Too bad I threw out my $5 coupon they mailed me - today would have been a good day to use it - I earned it. The staff is quite friendly but their prices are truly crazy. 5/8" screws for .25 each, nitrile gloves for almost $18 per box when you can order all of this stuff on prime and have it at your house same day. So what's the point? Why pay convenience store prices for things that you can get for way cheaper online or at the giant orange box store? Over $7 to cut a damn key?! And I brought the key blank!!! Come on. You're not even trying to be fair. I wanted to support a local small business but this place is truly not worth the sky high prices for these things. The customer service here is five stars. I came in with a plumbing issue and Sharon Helped me resolve the issue easily. She even looked up the fix on youtube with me. She saved me hundreds of dollars on a plumber. This place is excellent. Even though it's small in comparison to the huge hardware stores, There are times when the prices are much better. I usually stop by South Bay Hardware to get my monthly cleaning supplies. I like that they are well stocked. I like supporting local businesses but the last couple of times the customer service at the counter has gone downhill. The same woman at the counter is unfriendly & unwelcoming Today I was waiting in line for a while. The customer before me had gone off to look for a product. There were two employees at the registers with no customers being served at the time. I was just left standing there with a handful of supplies without so much as a " we ll be right there" or a " thanks for waiting. No acknowledgment or greeting when I finally got to the counter. It doesn't take much to make customers feel welcome & happy to give you their business. I do hope the staff is more attentive and friendly going forward, a simple hello would go along way in customer service. read more

Diana: you're absolutely right--this situation is out of character in my experience at SBH. That said, I've never attempted to exchange paint before due to SBH's rigid no-return-on-paint policy. I wouldn't have even considered requesting an exchange (and did not ask for refund) had I picked a different color. I trusted the reorder of the color saved in your system under my account, carrying the same name I had purchased previously. There was no way for me to anticipate that the mix would be incorrect, and therefore I feel nothing I could've done to anticipate this situation. We returned the paint about 20 minutes after purchase, having applied just a few brush strokes and immediately noticing the stark difference. Assuming there had been a machine error or a missing tint, we brought it back right away. At that point, we had no choice but to repaint--something we might have delayed had we realized the issue out the gate. The color we received was drastically different from what we had previously ordered (light yellow instead of a rich mushroom), so we believed an exchange was a reasonable request. Instead, we were left with a $70 can of paint we didn't order, with no acknowledgment of error from SBH. The experience left us feeling as though the mistake was somehow our fault, rather than a simple mix-up, and the rigid policy put us in an unnecessarily frustrating position. In the end, we purchased a second can, which also turned out wrong. But with an event the next day and a patch of yellow paint on the wall, we had no choice but to use it. By the end of that day, we had spent $150 on paint--without ever receiving the correct color. Now, we're left with additional time and labor to either repaint everything or attempt to match the other walls to a color we never wanted in the first place. I understand that mistakes happen without bad intent, which is why I'm so baffled and frustrated that this situation escalated the way it did. So much hassle over a single can of paint! I'm updating my rating to three stars for now, thanks to the prompt response. While I truly appreciate the quick outreach, my hesitation in rating higher stems from the uncomfortable call I received from Dan the following day. The tone initially felt curt and cold--likely due to the negative review--and it took unnecessary back-and-forth before the conversation shifted toward a resolution. In the end, Dan offered to replace the paint and ensure we receive the correct color in the amount needed to fix the situation, which I genuinely appreciate. That said, had a simple exchange and acknowledgment of the mix-up happened from the start, this would never have been an issue. We'll be coming in soon to complete the asap. I'm hopeful for a positive resolution that puts some more stars up where they belong, and I look forward to rewriting this review once the transaction is complete. I have had nothing but FANTASTIC service from here ever since it opened on Artesia. Always helpful and knowledgeable. Took my screen door in that my dog went through, and the gentleman behind the counter was able to fix it without rescreening it. Said next time, tell your dog to try harder LOL. I can't complain when, every time I come into the store there is "Service with a Smile" and the workers are eager to be helpful, with a friendly attitude. Ever since Ace (across the street on Artesia) closed, I have wanted a local hardware store to open up, as I'm not a fan of Lowe's / Home Depot (albeit both are within a 10-20 min drive) per se, but rather would support local small businesses like this, even if prices are a tad higher than the big chain stores. They have a nice selection here, it's well organized and clean. Parking is fairly easy too! I'd say, if you ever need something on impulse or necessity and live in the area, support this business and shop here! They're here for you, so if you're not going to be here for them, when you eventually have an emergency and need that one little item quickly and conveniently, they need our (as a community and neighborhood) support, so their doors can stay open for us. read more

Amazing went extremely well, every single staff member answered every question regarding sprinkler system. Very accommodating, they had the bleeders screws for our Rain Jet sprinkler system after 5 calls to our neighbors in Seal Beach, Long Beach much of which were Mom and Pop stores, which we would prefer, they have a much better variety than Home Depot / Lowes much more personalized and reliable with knowledge. I heard through word-of-mouth that this store had opened almost across the street from the now-closed Kurt Hardware so I decided to check it out. They just opened just two days ago and occupy a decent-sized building that used to house a mattress store. David (I believe he is the manager of one of their other locations) was kind enough to help me look for an Allen wrench. When they didn't have that size in stock yet, he let me use one of his to remove a couple of screws for my planner. The store is large, clean, and organized with all of the items you would look for at a hardware store including barbecue grills, lawn and garden, keys made, etc. Kurt Hardware has been closed for at least two years so this is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Much more convenient than having to make the trek to H.D. and having a hit-or-miss experience finding what you're looking for. read more

This has been a great addition to Artesia and it is a store that doesn't overwhelm me, it inspires me. I love South Bay Hardware!! They have almost everything I have needed every time I needed it at a good price to boot. If you need that one stupid part to complete your project or 100 of them, they have it. If you need bulk produce, they will order it for you and have it to you fast. More over, the people that work there are nice, have great attitudes, are very helpful, and genuinely care about their customers. This is how I remember hardware stores being when I was growing up here in Redondo Beach. I have been into this location more that 20 times and began playing a stupid game because they always have what I need. I get what I came for then I ask for something random and they have it, until last week. I'm not saying what it was just in case you are playing too but it wasn't a common item. JR looked to see if they had one in store, then went to the computer and within 2 minutes he said I can have it here in 2 days if I wanted him to order it. SMH JR, I hate you so much, you are great! I wanted to stop a leaky hose bib with a minimum of fuss. Very friendly associate JR helped me verify that all I needed to do was swap out the spigot core from a new one (I didn't want to deal with torches and solder). So, 15 minutes and a pair of pliers layer, the leak is no more. Now the formerly wet area is as dry as the rest of California! Thanks JR. read more

I love this Hardware store! Everyone is great. Not only is it super clean and has everything you might need but customer service is outstanding!! Had a slight emergency today for a Santa gift for my grandson. He asked Santa for a cart to put his cars in. Mom thought it was a small toy storage truck. Found out by one of the guys working at their house that he asked what he wanted from Santa and he said he told Santa he wanted basically a dolly so he could drive his amazon boxes after he made them into cars! Mom was frantic. Didn't know what to do. I immediately thought of South Bay Hardwire and Alex got a wood dolly they sell and installed a hardwood seat so my grandson could scoot himself around!
