Unacceptable customer service. I visited the store shopping for knives for my parents. Margot, Margeaux, or Margo, was the sales associate workings. She is a knife snob and the most condescending salesperson I've met. When asked questions directly, she responds with enthusiast jargon to make herself feel superior. The collection is okay, they have some really good stuff and some alright products. I'd rather walk a few paces and spend my money at Williams Sonoma. I am confident that this business loses a lot of money because of her poor attitude. read more

I happened to be in the mall during my lunch break and found this store. They have a decent selection of knives and the guy behind the counter seemed friendly. I happened to have my $300 mid-tech folder on me and it was a bit dull so I asked if they sharpened knives. I was told that they had a guy who was in the "military" and was really good so I left my knife with them. I wish I had looked at the reviews here before doing that because my knife came back less sharp than when I left it with them. Problems with the sharpening: 1) I can feel the burrs on the blade edge - Either he didn't use a fine stone to complete the sharpening or he forgot to finish the knife. 2) I don't think he sharpened the entire knife, part of the edge that's near the handle of the knife has no burrs and does not feel any sharper than it was when I left it. 3) Blade edge at the tip of the knife is now uneven. I could of done a better job myself with the The Wicked Edge sharpening system. If you have a $100 set of cooking knives you got from Macys's and its been several years since you've had them sharpened this guy may be able to do a decent job but he clearly isn't capable of sharpening anything more challenging than a cheap piece of metal. read more

The lady there is awful. I walked in hoping to purchase two knives (both Benchmade and $200 each) which they did indeed have in stock. However, the lady working there was outright mean and antagonizing. I made my purchase from there online retailer knivesshipfree on the spot in the show room. The store associate spoke down to me and my mom and was very rude. Such as "What's the difference between these two knives?" And she replied with "This ones more expensive it's better" and "is there a warranty if it breaks?" "It's not going to break unless you stand on it" never going back. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. I took a spyderco serrated pocket knife in to get sharpened. The blade had NEVER been sharpened before, it still looked new. When I got it back the serration was notched out and sloppy and teeth were ground down. It looked like someone used a dremel tool and mangled the blade. I asked them fix it and a week later no difference. The store's owner denied everything. Called me a liar and said I brought my knife to them in that shoddy condition, and refused to refund me the whopping $10 I paid them to botch my knife. Awesome customer service right there. She did that right after I shook her hand and introduced myself, too. I will be sending my knife to Spyderco in hopes they can fix it. But avoid this store like the plague. Its bad enough they have no clue what they are doing, but the fact they treat their customers poorly and actually have the gall to call them liars as well is just icing on their cake. read more

The store itself is great, a lot of cool knives,flashlights, and toiletries for men. However a store associate that works there is AWFUL. Description: female/Large/Glasses/Blond hair. She has an attitude and the worse part is I don't think she knows it. The owner of this shop is incredibly mean, and their business practices are awful. I brought in 3 knives for sharpening, and was told I had to pay in cash or check (seriously?) I paid the $18 in cash to an employee (not the owner). When I came to pick them up the owner told me I owed $18. I explained that I had paid and she just told me I was wrong. The man who took my money hadn't written it down. She agreed she'd check "the envelopes" later to see If I'd really paid. I was happy a few days later when she called to confess that I had indeed paid. Ok, good. I went back today to drop off a couple more knives. She remembered the $18, and calculated that she owed me $9. She told me she'd write me a CHECK when I came back to pick up the knives! I said, "no, you owe me $9, you're going to pay me in cash, right now." She argued with me back and forth saying, "NO, IT WILL BE A CHECK ON TUESDAY!" I persevered and finally she slammed open the cash register, I held out my hand and she refused to put the money in my hand and slammed it down on the table. Unbelievable. Earlier before she turned into a crazy person she had told me that people have thrown things at her! After her behavior with me, my parting words were, "I'm not at all surprised you make people mad enough to throw things at you!" Oddly Thee Cutlery has been in decades in Manhattan Mall, but I sure can't tell you why. read more

I posted a favorable review several weeks ago, only to find it removed. It makes me question the validity of this process...only the negative reviews remain??? So, I am going to post it again.... I took my grown son, rather he took me in the store this past weekend to buy kitchen knives. The sales lady was as informative and helpful as anyone I have dealt with in a long, long time! She took the time to explain what the different knives were used for and showed us how to hone the knives and gave us several other tips. Macy's couldn't even bother to say hello. I just visited a few minutes ago in search of a knife roll for my husband. She indeed is very rude and unwelcoming. Did not seem like she wanted my services at all. Acted as though my questions were bothering her. When we've come by before and dealt with the man, it was a much more pleasurable experience and we were happy to make a purchase. Never going here again. I brought 2 knives in to be sharpened, and both were returned to me worse off than when I submitted them. One was simply duller; the grind that there sharpening person put on it was far too obtuse, and it will just rip paper, not cut it at all. The other, an outdoors knife with serrations, was ground so aggressively that the serrations are ruined. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, they said that I couldn't have my money back, but they could re-sharpen; when I told them I didn't want to give them another chance to ruin my knives, they refused a refund. The service was terrible, the sharpening worse, and above all of this, their prices are ridiculous. I usually say buy local, but in this case, save yourself a bundle and don't ever bring them any of your valuable knives to ruin. read more

I'm a little surprised to see the negative comments on here because I've never been treated poorly and I've had my knives sharpened here and I thought they did a great job! I actually really like this store for adding new pieces to my collection and also for gifts. They have great sales here and they've gift wrapped for me too. The guy who I've worked with every time I've been there I believe is the owner, and I've always felt like he's gone above and beyond to give us his attention, explain the knives we're interested in and quickly turn around our knives being sharpened.
