You know those people who ran out and got dogs during COVID because they were working from home and could spend so much time with them? Yeah, we got two of them. First a puppy, and then when he was 9 months old a second rescue dog who was about 2.5. We had (naïve) dreams of the dogs cuddling for naps and playing quietly together out back as we WFH. So, where do I start? Our ManaBoy (just turned a year old) was a rescue (pure bred Doberman Pinscher). Had him at 6 weeks old; he was malnourished, skin was really bad, and entire body filled with fleas. On December 12, 2018 my family and I rescued Tucker, an 8 month Pit Bull/ Lab mix who was brought in as a stray by the Riverside County Animal Shelter. Tucker was scheduled to be euthanized on December 13, 2018 for severe aggression and kennel stress after less than 2 weeks of being at the shelter. He had already been moved to the non-public section of the shelter, but we came across a post on Facebook with his information and knew we had to rescue him. Tucker has always been well behaved around people, and actually quite submissive. But as soon as he would get around other animals, he became very aggressive and hard to manage. Oh how do I even start? Our Elon, a Mastiff/Rott mix, 11 months old and full of himself. No matter how much we tried, we could not get him to stop chewing on the kids, my slippers, my husband and all the patio furniture, he absolutely would not come, heel, and stay for very long. He thought "come" meant "Let's rip around the yard and play chase for a half hour when it was time to go". He even drew blood on a few of my clients, they were playing, but still! With Blue of Lorenzo's Dog Training Team, my wife and I had a great experience with a very hard task. Our dog Foxy (a Pembroke Welsh Corgi) had a number of issues even after graduating from the "Big Box Treat Training Program." These included food aggression of a specific type, aggression toward other dogs, intermittent obeying of commands, bad leash walking, as well as really excessive barking. The food aggression had reached a point we were concerned for our safety and our ability to keep her. We went thru 8 weeks of training with Blue. We are pretty sure the training was harder on us than on Foxy. The methods used seemed harsh at first, but Foxy never became afraid of us or Blue. She always greeted him with a tail wag and walked right up to him. As the training concluded, Foxy's behavior is vastly improved. We still have occasional issues, but they are controllable and now she responds to commands. Our 12-month old rescued dog - as sweet as she is at times -- was becoming a handful. She had a lot of that nervous energy that resulted in sometimes aggressive behavior toward our other dog, and unfriendly anxiety when visitors came. In other words, she was becoming a handful. One day I walked into our vet's office (VCA in Murrieta) and asked if they had any recommendations. I was directed to a brochure for Lorenzo's Dog Training Team -- and, more specifically, Shavon (who also goes by "Blue"). Shavon was able to come by our house to meet Phoebe (our dog) - free of charge and without obligation. We were amazed at how much we did not know about the mental (and physical) part of being a dog owner. The transformation of Phoebe, in just that hour of time with him, had our jaws dropping. I won't get into all of the reasons why we needed to change OUR behavior in order to get Pheebs to change hers -- I will leave that up to Shavon. Suffice it to say, we were impressed -- and hopeful -- and agreed to a one-month plan where Phoebe would live off-site, with Shavon, with a weekly visitation day. Due to some timing issues, we actually didn't see her for two weeks and -- OMG - we were blown away with the transformation. Shavon "Blue" helped to train us to be better owners. We adopted a German Shepherd from a rescue in LA. This was the third German Shep that I have had. This one, however, had his own agenda. He was on the street for a year, and wanted to chase my cat all over the house, barked like crazy if you left him in his crate or outside a store to run in for an errand. I was referred to Lorenzo's and Emilio by a person I met while walking Max. We met with Emilio and he suggested we work with Shavon. When he arrived, our house was blocked off with closed doors and baby gates to keep the dog and cat separated, and the dog had already run out the front door into the street and been hit by a car (he was fine but it was scary for everyone involved. We needed to fast forward our training as it was clear that this was going to be a challenge. To make matters more serious, my 74 year old mother was coming out to stay with our son and we wanted her to be able to have a dog she could handle while we were on vacation. After the first training session where we learned about what to do and how to be better teachers, our home life with the dog (Max) immediately improved. We did in house training and train the trainer is what really worked for us. You have to commit to a few 10 minute training sessions each day, but you get quick results. Fast forward to the end of training, Max is now off leash trained, runs to "heel position" when commanded, and will "Down Stay" on a corner as I cross the street to the other side and walk a block away, or sit quietly when I walk into a store to buy something.
