This is my first ever yelp complaint. I am upset with myself that I didn't read these ratings…read morebefore booking. If you plan the rent from this company... please read and take pictures of your boat before departing. I reserved the boat on Friday 7/11 for use on Tuesday/Wednesday 7/13-7/14. When I called it seemed like was interrupting something.. he asked if he could call me back. Didn't ask for a name. He did call back. He was polite on the phone and was able to quickly make our reservation. I still felt like something was missing. I wasn't asked how many people. I had to ask. Wasn't told no pets. Or ANY rules/regulations. I asked how early I could pick up and that was pretty much it. When we went to get the boat we were told our reservation was canceled. No one in our group canceled that reservation! They said someone called and claimed to be getting deployed for military. I was told we could pick up as early as 9AM, but we came to pick up after 11AM. Thinking they just gave our boat away??? The people in front of us did not have a boat reservation. Took over an hour to get the boat. They gave us a "consolation" boat. The thing to pull rafts on the back was broke. They gave us a rope to try to figure another way to tow a raft. Boat was dirty. Canopy was taped together. No anchor. Kids ended up having fun so the day was a success. Day two it was raining off and on. The lake was a little choppy. We stopped to fish and jump in. Our boat wouldn't restart. We called into the marina and the helped us trouble shoot. We had to tighten the battery terminals. Then the canopy started to fall apart the last hour. My daughter's boyfriend was trying to hold it together as we were trying to get out of the rain. It was just falling apart. My husband and daughter were both hit with the bar when it came down. When we returned to the dock, it was like they were waiting to charge us with damages that they knew were going to occur. There was a lady there who was not there when we picked up the boat. She was yelling at us about the canopy and blaming us for the battery wires becoming loose. She said that happens when you hit bumps in the water. We were charged over $200 for gas. The gas gage was broke so we didn't realize that it was low. We were still fine with that charge. They charged us a $150 fill up fee on top of the $200.. also fine with that. We misunderstood the return boat time. First night was 7:00 and second night was 5:00. We returned at 5:30 the second night so that was a $50 charge.. our fault! The guy running the desk was nice, but not super informative on a lot of their "rules". The lady when we returned the boat was horribly rude. She left but the called into the desk. We could hear her telling the guy to "deal with them". She told him that we owed over $1400.00. Added an additional $900 for the broken canopy which was already breaking when we took it out. After reading all these reviews from over 7 years ago, I can't believe they are still in business. Lesson learned.... Read the Yelp reviews! Take pictures when something seems wrong. Go with your gut when booking!!!

Our experience was HORRIBLE. Rent somewhere else, and here's why…read more.. Spending your hard earned money will get you this: * Algae on the boat floor (even though the sign out front says "Cleanest Boats on the Lake") * No anchor! * Masking tape "reinforcing" the bimini -- seriously, they tried to fix it with tape. We had the bimini down and when we went to put it back up, the tape snapped and the pole hit my dad in the head. * A boat that sometimes doesn't start, leaving you floating toward a $30K boat with no anchor to stop you. We rented a boat for two days. First, they canceled our reservation -- so when we showed up, we had to wait an hour just to get on a boat. The one they gave us was junk: algae on the floor, broken bimini, crusty leather seats (I could go on). We rented a tube, and they gave us the wrong rope. We had to go all the way back ourselves to switch it out because no one was there to help. On Day 2, we took the boat out and stopped to fish. When we tried to start it again, it wouldn't turn on. The boat started floating toward shore -- and guess what? No anchor. We fixed it ourselves (and even told them how to fix it, hope they listened). When the wind and rain started, we headed back. We tried to raise the bimini with the motor, but the tape snapped -- and a pole smacked my dad in the head. When we pulled in, the owner walked up with a clipboard, sighed, and said, "So what are the damages?" Like she expected the boat to fall apart. Then they tried to charge us for the bimini and claimed we must've hit big waves and broke it ourselves. They scam their customers -- plain and simple. Spend your hard-earned vacation money somewhere else. This place does not care about you or your experience. Have a great trip -- just not here.

Motoring in my rented SUV through the gorgeous Laurel Highlands region, I had roughly an hour to drive the seven miles between the two homes right through this park. Right in the heart is a most worthwhile stop, Ohiopyle Falls, a twenty-foot waterfall that spans the wide Youghiogheny River over a couple of dramatic levels. The parking lot was huge and pretty empty, and it was a quick stroll to the broad observation decks that jut out over the river. There was a group of kayakers huddled together as they were preparing to navigate the whitewater torrents. The hamlet of Ohiopyle provides a welcome coffee break. When I admitted I'd never been to Opossum Lake, she looked at me like I was missing out and told me I needed to check it out. Well...challenge accepted! When I got home, I looked it up and discovered it was only about 25 minutes from my house. Somehow, yet again, I had managed to overlook another great outdoor spot practically in my own backyard. A beautiful four-mile trail around a lake? Count me in! I headed out early on a mid-July Sunday morning, hoping to beat both the heat and the crowds. GPS brought me right to the parking area without any trouble, and even though there were already quite a few people there fishing, I had no problem finding a parking spot. The trail itself was fantastic! One of the things I appreciated most was how much the terrain changed throughout the loop. Parts of the trail were covered with crushed stone, others with pine needles, tanbark or natural dirt. It kept the hike interesting without ever becoming difficult. The entire four-mile loop is well-marked, easy to follow and beautifully shaded, making it an excellent summer hike even when temperatures start creeping up. The recent rain left a few muddy spots along the trail, but nothing that slowed me down. PRO TIP: If you're hiking after a rainstorm, use a little extra caution on the wooden footbridges. They can get a bit slick. The trail offered plenty to see along the way. I spotted birds, turtles and beautiful views across the lake and I found myself stopping more than once simply to enjoy the peaceful scenery. One unexpected highlight came when I crossed the spillway bridge. The interpretive signs explaining the history of the dam, the high-water markers and why the bridge was built so high above the creek added a neat educational element to the hike that I wasn't expecting. I always appreciate when a place teaches me something while I'm out exploring. Beyond hiking, it's easy to see why Opossum Lake has become such a popular recreation area. Throughout my visit I saw anglers casting from the shoreline, boats out enjoying the water and families making use of the many picnic areas scattered around the lake. Whether you're looking to hike, fish, paddle or simply enjoy a peaceful picnic, there's plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the scenery. I can already tell Opossum Lake is going to earn a permanent spot on my short list of local hikes. It's close to home. It's easy enough to enjoy without needing to mentally prepare for a mountain expedition. And it's beautiful enough that it never feels like "just another walk." Sometimes you want a huge adventure. Sometimes you just want to lace up your hiking boots, get a few peaceful miles under your belt and spend some time outside. Opossum Lake is absolutely perfect for those days!

The distance around the lake is, I think, about 3 or 3 1/2 miles and there are some small hills, steps, and mostly dirt or pine-needle-covered terrain. In terms of kayaking, I can paddle around all areas in about an hour. It's a convenient, easy-to-get-to location and it's open until 10pm.

We happily discovered this place for lunch and were thrilled to find out they also have free wifi…read more We were staying down the road and putting in our kayaks in the Cheat at the st. George bridge. The owners couldn't have been nicer and offered to let us use their campground to put our boats in - which we didn't need - but it's nice to know that you can do that and they will provide the service of picking you up and bringing you back to your car. We ended up coming back a few times for snacks, oj, and even lunch again. Thanks so much!

Growing up in an area, you never really understand what you have until you move away. You may have…read morethought that this was so boring to come here. You may think why are we going here. But when you move away, and come back for a visit, you want to revisit the area. First and foremost, nobody from this area ('locals' as the out-of-towners say) refers to this as Prince Gallitzin, Prince Gallitzin State Park, or PGSP. So stop it, it's not cute. We simply refer to it as Glendale. Yes, that is the name of the lake, but it is so much more simply to say Glendale than any form/combination you can come up with. The 'locals' here have it right, and you will not win an argument about it. What is appealing about this place is the many things you can do. Camping, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, feed the deer, playgrounds, grilling, I could keep going. I spent many weekends here camping (to note: I am not a camper). With that, it was like I memorized a good portion of this park. When you camp, you hike, when you hike, you stumble upon a lot of the park. But, it is nearly impossible to see the whole park by foot, you will need a vehicle of some sort. The shoreline of the lake is 26 miles long. But there are so many more things to do in this area. Headache Hill is a favorite. Nothing more than a water tank tower on top of a highpoint. When open, you can climb the water tower and view the park in every direction. Uninterrupted views. The marina is a highlight. The "beach" is another highpoint. There can technically be a lot of beaches here. Be sure to check out the Killbuck Boat Ramp area. You can rent boats here to go out on the lake. You can also launch your boat here (one of very many places to do so). This is also where you can feed the deer. It is almost like clockwork. But be very aware of your surroundings. Feeding deer can draw other wildlife and a bear or two have been spotted here. If geocaching is your thing. There area a ton in the area. Hungry, check out Pirates Cove for sure, whether you want a meal or sweet treat. There are tons to do here. Not far from towns to grab items, it can serve as a nice little getaway. And please remember, it's Glendale.

Who was Prince Gallitzin and why does he have a state park named after him? If you're so inclined feel free to skim this wiki on the Apostle of the Alleghenies. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demetrius_Augustine_Gallitzin PGSP is another creation of the late great Dr. Maurice Goddard who aspired to have a state park within 25 miles of every PA resident. He never reached that goal but he did add 45 parks during his decades long stint in state government including PGSP which was formally dedicated in 1965. So what's here? In the trademark of a lot of western PA state parks, not much and that's the beauty of it. I mean sure you can camp, glamp, hunt, fish, boat, hike, fart, etc. but there is also a loooooooooooot of quiet. elibrary.dcnr.pa.gov/GetDocument?docId=1737338&DocName=PRGA_ParkGuide.pdf What else do I remember: - We stayed in one of the ten cabins by the marina. Three of them allow dogs and obviously those book fairly far in advance especially on weekends. We stayed over a cold as hell weekend in January but I still needed to make the reservation two months out or else there would have been no availability. On the other side of Glendale Lake there are tons of spaces for camping year round but I don't camp so I can't testify about that. - If you need to pick up your cabin keys after the park office closes, head to the office and inside the foyer there are ten cubbies where they put the keys and a welcome/rules/map packet. Note that unless the process has changed, the email you get after you make a reservation does not mention this. Either you know, you guess or you'll have no clue. - IME, there is zero Internet capabilities in the cabins. Maybe that depends on the carrier but at the time, on T-Mobile, it was zip. - There are tons of houses selling firewood all around the area. I'm sure the park sells it somewhere but we bought a good bit from a stand a few miles away. - If you need provisions, there isn't much in the area. The town of Patton is ten minutes away and it has a Sheetz and one small store but past that you're probably going 30 minutes to Altoona for something more substantive. - The cabins are very, very nice. Full kitchens, good heating, nice enough bathrooms and it's usually a full bed with sets of bunks. - It snowed a few inches overnight and the park had their maintenance staff out salting and plowing the entrance roads very early in the morning which is good as most are narrow and winding. Overall the park is very nice. Lots of space/trails to spread out and explore on and the peaceful quiet is intoxicating. This one is definitely on our radar for a visit in the near future.

We're in the area to visit Ohiopyle and were looking for some places close by to take our golden…read moreretriever swimming and while eating breakfast this morning at Yum Yums one of the owners recommended this place. After hubby and I toured Kentuck Knob we stopped by our hotel to get our golden and headed straight here. I was worried that being Father's Day that the place would be insanely crowded but there weren't many people there and since there are so many areas to park everyone that was there was pretty well spaced out. We stopped at the boat ramp area so our golden could jump off the 2 floating docks and he absolutely loved it. The water is really clean and hubby even saw a huge fish jump out of the water while our dog was retrieving his ball. This area has benches and a walkway around the lake and there are also bathrooms, pavilions and picnic tables and seems to be quite popular with the local fisherman plus it was so clean and pristine, my only regret is that we didn't find this place sooner because we would have been bringing our pup here every morning and evening. Great place for fishing, family get togethers or for a nice walk around the lake, we're actually getting ready to head back up there now.

Hard to find but when you get to the water you are rewarded with a serene and beautiful part of the…read morePotomac. The water is shallow and our dogs love splashing and swimming. Its great on a nice day. However, there are some drawbacks. Notably, if there are other people there, you basically have nowhere to go as the beach is maybe 10 feet across. There are often people fishing, which is ok, but what is not ok is the complete lack of trash cans. This has the unfortunate result of the beach being littered with soda and beer cans and sometimes food containers. I wish people would not so freely litter in such a nice area, but the lack of trash bins means people are unlikely to get the hint or change their ways.

There's a small ramp to help lower a canoe or kayak down and some awkward steps. They remind me of baby steps but maybe it is like that so no one falls. There is a nice walkway/ramp built to walk down to the water, but remember that the water line is Maryland so if you have anything that might be questionable in the state, don't bring it with you.
